The vast majority of the cast has at least a few stupidly bad matchups here and there. Mario doing particularly bad against about 3-4 characters in the roster isn't really unusual in comparison to most characters. Given that there's a league of characters that have even more bad matchups than that, Mario users shouldn't be feeling too bad about their character right now.
^^THIS^^

Bowser's grab is also one of the worst in the game. His tilts (besides U-tilt) don't kill that early, and his Up-B isn't a kill move unlike Marth's or Metaknight's and isn't exactly hard to outspace. He is also extremely vulnerable to grab pressure because his dodges and landing frames suck.
At the same time though, he has one of the greatest releases in the game, he only has to inch forward and grab again, it's pretty easy to get at least two in a row on the majority of the cast.

Speaking of releases, I wonder if there are any character-specific Mario releases chains or combos that are more than decent. I know FTilt is a good out-of-release move, but it's not better than what Mario can do by throwing.

And a full stage length grab release CG in most cases does basically the damage of a half stage length CG from DDD with the assumption you manage to get consistent ground breaks from Bowser's end. Not impressive.

Ground releasing Snake over the edge is positionally powerful. You have a few air release combos on Wario if you grab him over the edge.

Grab release F-tilt on Ness and Lucas is worthwhile, just for getting in extra pummels in the process.

So I've been thinking about jab-canceling recently. Basically, I kind of think it's overrated. Well, maybe not overrated, but I see a lot of people try too hard for jab cancels and get punished, because the timing is pretty tough to get down. Input dsmash/ftilt too early and you just jab, which is fine. But to it too late and the opponent ALWAYS gets their shield up and is going to punish you. It's a lot more effective on wifi, imo.

I know that on paper, jab cancels are supposed to work on everyone but the spacies. But unless you really have the timing down (I don't) I think it's safer to just do the full jab combo. Or, what I usually do is bait the shield by doing the first 2 jabs and then grab or dair or something. I'm not saying jab cancels shouldn't be utilized, it just seems like people try to do it all the time, fail, and get punished, without realizing all the other options available out of jab.

^ Wise words.

I jab cancel every so often since I mostly have the timing down but past experiances have taught me it's better to stick to basic three hit combo or jab to d-smash or something instead of jab-canceling all the time. Mario's not Luigi.

Of course. Except weegee can get away with using it all the time because his jabs are just too good.

It doesn't matter if the character as long as the character can jab cancel. If you can guess/read what they are going to do, you should do an option that beats what they will do. This is just a general statement. In the example said, the opponent is beating your option by shielding. If you think they are going to shield, do something that beats shield (aka grab them). Eventually, they will/should adapt to anticipate a grab from you. When they do that, then you could do things like jab cancel > Dsmash.

If it counts, I broke someone's shield once and caped him like 10 times before exploding him with a fsmash

Very interesting flash game, where you actually only get one chance to save the world. This game is very depressing and symbolically shows a lesson of life, that the decisions you make will shape your future.

http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/555181

Just remember that you only have one chance to save mankind. You won't get another chance because you'll be dead. You've been warned. Make the best of your decisions or accept worldly demise!

If you are to share your ending, please make use of the SPOILER tags.

Duuuuude, I was looking for you at APV! What happened?

And yea, looks like you, me, and Famous are goin' head to head to head for that spot, lol. Let the games begin?

Edit @ Inferno: Maybe. I definitely need to become more active and improve. I hate getting rides anywhere cuz I feel like a **** afterward, and I won't have my license till January.

If I can get there, I'll go.

I battled Boss and everyone just two weeks before it and I didn't feel I was good enough yet to to make a difference against players like Takeover and Chu and I didn't feel like I could beat Boss's Mario so I'll be back in January to try my hand at them again. Let the games begin!

And Inferno, I'd go to KTAR but I'm low on funds because I have to save money for Pound and I don't have my license so I'd have to get someone to drive me there and back.

Yeah, I don't think I can beat either one of them either yet. My mindgames and reading are improving though, hopefully it's on the horizon.

Also, guys remember that I go to college in VA.
Gah, I keep forgetting you're VA now!

Gah, KTAR is too soon. I'm going to SiiS4 the week before that. Also guys, I'll be going to WHOBO 3 in Texas. Every Mario should go to this, because it will have low tier singles AND doubles. You want Mario to get more rep, let's all show up at WHOBO and take over.

You could say I used Luigi once upon a time but that was before I was even brawling competitively. I love Luigi`s jab cancels but I'll never use him as a second or switch him to my main. Also WHOBO is a little far for me.
