Mar10 Day Speculation Thread

With the Nintendo Switch 2 announced, alongside a new Mario Kart, and a Nintendo Direct scheduled for April 2nd, I think a lot of people have forgotten about Mario Day, on March 10th.

This thread will mainly be used for speculation on the upcoming Mario Day. What games will be announced? Will we see the casting of Mario Movie 2? The name of the new Mario Kart?

I think at the very least, we’ll get more info on Mario Movie 2 and the new Mario Kart game.

As for Mario’s 40th anniversary in general, we could see acknowledgement of that on Mar10.

Given that DKC Returns is entirely based on the 3DS version, I could see a Switch port of NSMB2 (and potentially NSBW) being announced for this year, especially given we're a year and half away from Wonder's release.

DKC has been mentioned, so here are my predictions; a full Mario and Donkey Kong crossover like in the Mario Movie. A 3D platform action adventure game starring Mario and Donkey Kong, hopefully with Diddy, Luigi and Peach too. Could be that they just rather focus on Mario and DK alone however, which I think is more likely even if I prefer it not to be so (Diddy seems the least likely of the bunch too). Or Luigi and Diddy are unlockable or DLC characters or something.

Am also predicting the crossover isn't fully equal, its more or less a Mario game with DK being there and DK Island being just another world there to explore, but it mostly features typical Mario elements.

What potential news could we get regarding the Mario 2 movie.

I love the idea of Bowser and King K. Rool joining forces. Them and their armies.

It would be nice to see some deep cuts on NSO too. Even if it wasn't localized, getting Mario and Wario would be cool as would finally putting out SMB Deluxe for GBC or some of the various Picross titles.

Since this thread gets traction again, I think we'll see a new installment of New Super Mario Bros but more or less in a more similar style to Mario Wonder and NSMB mixed. With even more playable characters.

I also expect a new Mario RPG to be announced. Probably a new Paper Mario that takes more after the original and TTYD. A remake of Super Paper Mario for Switch 1 seems likely too.

Regarding DK and appearances in Mario games, I don't think the crossover will be equal in measure. More or less the same as we saw in the Mario Movie. With the main focus being on DK himself more or less and his world just being another world in a Mario game. No K.Rool most likely, not before a new mainline appearance at least. Diddy is more 50/50 here since he didn't appear in the Mario Movie too much, but is inseparable from DK in any other media.

They're going to remind everyone Super Mario 64 2 was in development at one point. And then they'll just unleash it upon this world via NSO on Mario Day.


Okay but in all seriousness, for the games I'm just expecting them to say something like "Look forward to more exciting adventures with Mario this year" and not actually drop any real info. Would be great if they did but with the April direct looming around the corner I doubt they'll want to spoil it. Now stuff like the second Mario movie, merchandise, and theme parks? Absolutely could see them announcing content related to those.

Probably the official title and cast reveal for Mario Movie 2.

Either more games being added to Nintendo Switch Online or another collection that could add Galaxy 2, 64 DS and 3D Land.

A new game on Switch 1

Unless it’s on the April direct:

The next 3D Mario game since that’s long overdue outside of the rerelease of 3D World.

More details on Mario Kart 9 which will probably be the launch title.

With DK ‘94 and Mario’s Picross being announced for NSO a few days ago, I think I should re-evaluate my predictions for Mar10 Day… tomorrow?

Having played and completed Mario Oddysey finally, I can say I actively hope for another game in this style. It has amazing gameplay, and was very innovative and rewards creativity. Strong 3D Mario platformer.

Can't help but think a Mario and Donkey Kong crossover will happen at some point. With New Donky City and the Mario Movie and the fact both 3D Mario AND Donkey Kong have been so quiet as of late, I think something big is brewing.

But as of today, I doubt we get a new reveal. Unless it's games coming out for NSO? Idk ?
