Well I had some time to recover. So I'll go through my own shoutouts/thoughts.
Thank you to @
Photonic for scouting out the venue. Thank you to the VFW staff for being accommodating and welcoming; and also the VFW members for being interested and supportive.
I would like to give my thanks to the TO team and volunteers for really putting their heart into this. It's very easy for a team to let each other down; but everyone really worked to support the scene. I didn't have people not show up at all this time! @
Sofa King 742
took to his role and did what he set out to do by keeping focused on getting Smash Wii U running smoothly and efficiently both in pools and bracket. @
LevelZeroToInfinity
played a great role as well, really keeping himself all over the place and helping where was needed from assisting by the streaming set-up, commentating, etc... @
HunnersBoards got drafted for label-making; and ended up stepping it up even more in the function of things. He was a great go to guy when I needed assistance. Not to mention all of them brought in tons of equipment and set-ups to help things run well. @
TorQ
also volunteered and it proved to be good assistance and a great help with the bracket monitor in the main room.
In addition @
JmanJ
brought in a ton of the vault CRTs which was vital. He was an amazing team player at the TO desk. He helped keep the entry fees/prize pools organized between the games and kept the payout secure. He helped enter in results and construct pools for a tournament saturated with talent. He did his best to keep me calm too; and helped to provide me moments to get up and breathe.
So much of the smooth sailing is thanks to @
OldManDyl (OMD)
who came with me the night before to get the room cleared out and then the tables and chairs set up; which was a huge boost to not having to rush like crazy in the morning. He was a great help at the TO desk collecting fees; but his real strength was manning the floor. He kept the matches going in both PM and Melee and didn't let things fall behind. He worked with commentators to try to help them improve as many have no experience with it in our scene.
And of course @
Hellkrai really brought back to life quality streaming/recording in the Indiana scene these past few months. He spent countless hours bringing the best quality layouts for the stream/videos. He went with me to help construct a beast streaming set-up within our funds. He worked with other local scenes to get the word out and made sure to do the same in return; building good relations. Even going as far as making a beautiful PM tournament pack that brings IndySmash to life. It's a lot to do piloting a streaming station like that for the whole event; especially with the issues presented; yet he made it work and still is putting in work with the video uploads along with @
LevelZeroToInfinity
.
One of the best things to see was that the TOs were proud of the work they put in and the event they made happen. There's a lot of little things you can ignore when hosting a tournament and just hope to coast by with the event running itself; but instead they stepped up their game. I likely forgot more of what they did or just didn't see it while I was working.
I was very pleased with how many people voiced their enjoyment of the event; and we broke the 100 mark for unique smashers which was a great thing to see. That doesn't mean we can't look to improve though. The Internet in the main room of course was the biggest obstacle this go around. I did talk to and address it with the venue manager and she said she would get it addressed. We'll test it again once that is done. It's unfortunate that the stream suffered due to this considering all of the @
Hellkrai's work; but he did ensure tons of material was captured and plans to rebroadcast/upload it all. Challonge's two-stage feature has some bugs in it; it ended up slowing me down. I know it's shortcomings now though and have a plan to make it smoother. The second room opening up sooner would be a big boon; fortunately the venue very much wants us back so we have some good negotiating leverage after this event (including some on the hours; parking/venue being hard to find of course is what it is). In addition, our event caught the eye of another venue who gave us their information; so we will look into that as well to make the best decision. We got some great constructive criticism on the commentators as well; and @
OldManDyl (OMD)
is taking them to heart in improving that aspect and overall getting our players better educated.
Shoutouts to @

Flawless Fan Good getting to see you two and chat some if only briefly while I was running around. Thank you so much for making it out!
Congratulations to all of the players who placed in the money!
Also thank you so much to all of the scenes that made it out. From Evansville to South Bend, Purdue to IU, Charleston to Cincinnati, Kentucky & Tennessee. [Kalamazoo & SoCal!] Thank you for repping your own scene and supporting the Indianapolis scene. Really glad to see some Carmel locals make it out of the woodwork.
I enjoyed this event and hope to see everyone again.
