I personally really hope they don't add any more "dark" versions of existing characters, including Dark- and Dry Bowser. That trope is so stupidly overdone and already has far too much presence in the roster.

Because two characters who are clones is too many.

Hilda for Zelda

Uses her staff in her tilts (borrowed from Palutena) and had darker magic effects. Final Smash uses the whole Lorule Triforce.

I agree with you, which is why I feel that only gaming legends like Link and Samus can really get away with it. I'd like for Dark Link to at least get his own name on the CSS when you switch to his costume--he doesn't need to be an echo fighter.

Why, because people actually like the idea of clones now? Or because the developers aren't doing enough to embrace the idea?
That most of the echo characters I read seem sacrilege.

Oh yeah, it seems that people want to shoehorn characters by sticking a vaguely fitting moveset onto them instead of making something either unique or very representative of their games.

Everyone is entitled to there opinion, but when I read ideas like "Dry Bowser" or "Hilda," i have to question why they think the character even matters to its own series.

Or why they think that Alph matters less.

Dry Bowser is at least good alt material, since he has appeared in the Mario platformers.

I still stand by my belief that Alph doesn't have anything he can do that Olimar can't.

And Hilda is just a desperate bandwagon to get at least one one-shot from Zelda in after the Sheik fluke.

Dry Bowser is not good alt material.

[prefix] [character already in the game] is NEVER a good addition to the roster.

Alt as in alternate costume. They meant Dry Bowser is at least a good consideration as an alt not an Echo. Or I assume that was the intent at least.

I was hoping this thread would have wildly strange echoes haha

Muddy Mole as a Mr.G&W echo
Min Min as a Simon echo
Wonder Red as a Pokémon trainer exho
Tin Star as a Inkling echo
Arcade Bunny as a Lucas echo

Let’s make some people think!

I thought we were talking about echoes because that's the topic of the thread. If we're talking about alternate costumes than that would be fine.

You brought up that Dry Bowser isn't good alt material. Why is that? Dry Bowser is literally Bowser but undead. Moreover, Dry Bowser has appeared as a main series character in NSMB, NSMB2, and 3D Land. And that's not counting his spinoff appearances. Dry Bowser is at least important enough to warrant alt status.

If you're equating Dry Bowser to Dark Bowser, that doesn't work, because Dark Bowser is the Dark Star taking Bowser's form. Also, Dark Bowser/Dark Star is a one-shot RPG character, same as Geno.

I just said he was fine as an alternate costume. Just not an echo. Echoes take more development time that could be spent on a character that's not already in the game.

True but...isn't that the point of echo fighters?
Yeah, but even echoes need something different. They need to have an alternative weapon set like Dark Pit, differences in how they execute moves like Ken, Chrom, and Lucina, or even animations that convey a different personality like Richter.

You try to think of ANY of that for Alph.

Rock Pikmin.

Are you a Pikmin fan? If you are, then fair enough, but it's pretty easy for me as a big fan of the series to come up with new idle animations and taunts for Alph that reflect his adventure rather than Olimar's. For example, as it currently is he comes in riding Olimar's ship--not a good start.

Another thing to consider is that characters like Lucina and Chrom have differences that are completely made-up just for the sake of having a difference. They could do the same for Alph, why not? There's plenty you could do. Give Olimar his old Brawl recovery while Alph sticks with the winged Pikmin. There, that's enough of a difference already.

:ultdk:- Donkey Kong Jr.: Smaller, faster and slightly weaker (but still strong for his weight class). Side B has him shove a key into the ground, and Down B has him throw a temper tantrum (because baby). Final Smash has him take opponents to the steel girders and perform a tag-team beatdown with an 8-bit Donkey Kong.

:ultlittlemac:- Glass Joe: Intentionally terrible counterpart to Little Mac, being drastically weaker and slower, somewhat lighter, having no armor on his smash attacks, but has one of the best recoveries in the game, because it's funny. Final Smash is a single, croissant-infused punch that's notably weaker than other Final Smashes.

:ultkrool:- Lord Fredrik: Does not have the belly super armor, but is quicker on his feet, and several attacks can freeze opponents. Final Smash has him summoning the ice dragon to freeze and launch anyone caught in its path.

:ultrosalina:- Pauline and Mini-Mario: Heavier than the cosmic duo, and planetary rings are replaced with music notes for certain moves. Final Smash is a New Donk City Festival.

:ultwolf:- Panther Caroso: Has flashier animations compared to the no-nonsense Wolf, but with less damage output. Final Smash is the same as Wolf. One of his taunts has him produce a rose and throw it behind him. This rose has a damaging hitbox that can be used for sneaky KOs (think Dudley from Street Fighter).

If we had more echo fighters, my first and probably best thought is to give one to each of the pokemon trainer trio. Just find similar pokemon and replace the switching mechanic with individual down-B moves. That would give us rock smash again.

More wishful thinking
:ultshulk: - Alvis. He doesn't necessarily bring anything new to the table, but I like him a lot and he can use the monado.
:ultswordfighter: - Wonder Blue/Edea. I just want a stubby swordfighter that doesn't rely on projectiles and that doesn't really exist yet.
:ultfalcon: - Terry Bogard. It would be beautiful.

I've heard about Rock Pikmin, and if you were to put them in Smash, they would effectively be functionally identical to Purples.

The problem with giving Pikmin Chain back is that it was designed to work with the old 6 Pikmin system, which in itself was poor for balancing. Winged Pikmin is much better for everyone involved.

Just to chime in on the Pikmin talk. Perhaps Rock Pikmin, being much heavier than even Purple, would have more start up on the throw and travel the least distance. In exchange they can have a bury effect if they land on a grounded opponent, or meteor on an airborne one.

As for recovery, rather than the Winged Pikmin, why not skip them altogether and go with an enemy with similar functionality.

Since Winged Pikmin debuted in 3, they could be given to Alph.

Olimar would recover via a Swooping Snitchbug which unlike the Winged Pikmin isn't weighed down by the Pikmin, allowing you to keep them much like how it specifically targets them in the Pikmin games. In exchange though, it's slower and opponents can K.O. it after dealing enough damage.

And for a possible Louie echo, he could recover via the Bumbling Snitchbug. Functionally similar to the Swooping Snitchbug, but it throws Louie back down as an Ike/Cloud style falling attack.

I've never played a Pikmin game, mind, but Rock Pikmin look very weird and out of place compared to all the others which are more or less just different colors. They would stick out oddly in the pluck lineup. I guess if they were something really rare and strong like Peach's ultra turnip that Olimar sometimes plucked, the fact that they stick out so much could be used to positive effect... but do we really need more RNG?

Okay, that works. Rocks themselves get buried if enemies attempt to flatten them, and since taking on the elemental resistance as an elemental ability is the theme of Pikmin, that would translate.

Godammit, guys, what is with this guy appearing everywhere? Black Shadow is a nobody and he won't add anything that Ganondorf already does.

And I don't want him in just so Ganondorf's moveset can be ruined further. He really needs to go back to the elbow and kicks.

Screw that. Give Ganon a proper game canon moveset & Black Shadow inherits the old moveset.

Better yet, leave Ganon alone and promote Goroh with a unique moveset. When Plan A isn't dependent on the alteration of another character's moveset, Black Shadow is a Plan B gone too far.

Would you revamp Mario's moveset to use a hammer while making Doc have the hand-to-hand moves?
