Today there was a small tournament at the University of Missouri. Doubles were first and singles followed. Over 20 people showed up. But then a lot of them lost in doubles and got discouraged and didn't want to spend money that they thought they would lose on the singles tourney. So we only had 8 for the singles tourney after that. So, we decided to make it a round robin tournament, so that we could all get more experience against a wider variety of characters. I ended up taking 3rd. I lost to the 2 people who took first and second. I'll probably post links to the vids if anyone is interested in seeing them. I am currently uploading them to youtube.

Most of the people I played against, were rather noobly and I wiped the floor with them all. (I'm working on uploading the matches, but youtube is being slow and stupid right now. One vid, per hour is not worth staying up past 3:00 a.m. right now. I have 4 of them posted, the rest will have to wait till tommorow.)

Lutzburg, being my crew mate, knew my metagame and almost beat me, but he was kind of dishearted from losing both of his two rounds before facing me.

Then I lost to IronBoots33. I have/had very little experience against both G&W and Diddy, so I wasn't too bothered that I lost that one, still wish I had won though.

Magnum (Sonic) vs. Boots (Game & Watch) Match 1

Magnum (Sonic) vs. Boots (Game & Watch) Match 2

Magnum (Sonic) vs. Boots (Diddy) Match 3

Finally, it came down to my final match. I was to either take first or 3rd. Boots had lost 2 other rounds, so if I won this last one, then I won the whole tourney. I lost to Cook's freakishly good Olimar and so having 5 wins and 2 losses, I would have gotten 2nd or 3rd since Boots had the same record. However, Boots had beaten me, so I got 3rd. Cook's Olimar went undefeated.

Magnum (Sonic) vs. Cook (Olimar) Match 1

Sadly, I sold out my beloved sonic after that match. I figured that I got dominated and so repeating that wasn't going to help me win. So, I switched to my secondary, Marth, in hopes that the range of his sword would help me to outreach Olimar's Pikmin. It turns out that I had done even better as Sonic. That's what I get for abandoning Sonic.

Magnum (Sonic) vs. Cook (Olimar) Match 2 (I'll post this one if anyone is curious to see how it went.)

If he turns this into individual videos, maybe we can make a thread out of this.

Still, good to hear you tried, Sonic loses out badly to Olimar.

Mod's don't like placehold threads very much though. That's all.

Oh, sorry, I forgot about that. I will be posting the videos, if that helps minimize the spammy retardedness of my starting a new thread.
Or if a mod wants to delete this thread I can post it there.

Nah, they won't delete the thread. Lock it at worst, but they don't delete threads unless it's an ad thread.

And this isn't a placeholder, if he is uploading the videos now as we speak.

It's all semi-good.

yes ironboots is a girl. I've played casual games with her and we are typically about 50/50 in wins. So, I thought that I had a fair chance, but I had never played her Diddy before and I have no other exp against a Diddy at all.

Mag, I watched your first video, and don't take my criticism to heart, but rather as a means of improvement.

this is the one I'm talking about.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5ojmyk3D9mE

You rely why too freaking much on your spin approaches, now while that usually isn't a bad thing, this is Zelda/Sheik you're fighting. Zelda has the multi-hit moves to knock you out of the spin approaches, and Sheik hast he precision with Needles, and Chain if the opponent had used it.

You also are quite predictable with retreats, especially Spring get-aways. For starters, you Sprang too much, again not necessarily a bad thing, but 1:16 was a good example of what could've happened had you been at killing %ages.

The last thing you were doing quite often was not doing the right move for the situation. I won't specify, but there are a lot of places in that video that you did one thing that something would've had teh same results or had been much better.

I'm going to watch the other vids, just because I like to see what went on.

Kinzer, yeah thanks a ton for the advice and critique. I realized that I was doing those things actually. I was kind of testing out the opponent and seeing how aggressive they would try to be and how well they react to sonic's speed. You'll see I started out a lot of matches that way. I realized that most of the opponents were nowhere near my level so, I decided that I would kind of take it easy on them and not try to completely destroy them. Most of them were really having a hard time when they were seeing themselves lose to me a sonic main and the other guy the olimar main. I didn't want to rub another over the top victory in their face.

Well, I just want you to know, you can't pick up bad habits, which is why I would obliterate anybody that comes in my way.

Yeah, that might be a better philosophy. It was my first real tourney and I kind of let the idea that "THIS IS A TOURNEY" get in my head and started making bad choices and using bad habits. So I feel like I certainly made a lot of mistakes that I wouldn't normally make. Like three suicides. I probably should do like you said and concentrate on giving it my all rather than try to take it easy sometimes. It's the only real way to perfect my game.

That reminds me, I have a lot of more reasons why you should always play your best, both for moral reasons and prefosseional, but it looks like you already got the mindset, so it's not necessary.

lol, yeah i was trying to go for that jab lock set up a lot. I was kinda hoping to show off a little bit, intimidate all of my opponents that were watching behind me. Most of them had never played a sonic main and I was hoping that seeing me do something crazy would freak them out before I had to play them.

Dude, playing Sonic is surprising enough for people, show them anything with depth in him and they'll have a heart attack.

Mario has a reasonable learning curve, at least with Brawl's standards.

He's also antoher Mid-Tier character in disguise, which explains why you might be good with him.

Feel like putting your money where your mouth is and playing my Shawnik on Lag-Fi? (don't worry, I know Wi-Fi explains nothing, but I heard you got some Steak going on over there.)

No offense, but I think that first Ike was fail.
He kinda spammed smashes a lot.

Falco match was sexy.
Marth match was sexy.

Anyway, you spammed spring>dair a lot and Zelda and Lucas punished you for it.
But I can tell it was like everyone's first time playing a Sonic. They fell for so much abused ****, lol.
HA's were nice and well timed. Seeing that move hit is just too good.
