Welcome to the Lucario Social!

Event stuff:

December 14th: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1Kuap3f5lKnnqLJNMHC59qxcf_Fcwncq-e2lS3nEyAFc/edit?usp=sharing

I'll be hosting a wifi tournament in the Discord group next monday, I'm giving out a free $1 giftcard to amazon to the winner. Just gotta be int eh discord group to do it, I'll be doing these more regularly as well.

Just a reminder of before:
Attention Lucario Social: Hullo!

We need to address the fact that people are still linking to the old Skype social group, known for it's allowance of posting pornography. As such, this group is not allowed to be linked on SWF: Wether it's in the social, someone's signature, wherever. This is because of the legal issues of having under 18's visit and see the social being promoted. WE CANNOT ALLOW THIS.

As such, if you are linking the skype chat, we're forced to issue you with an infraction for linking pornography. We aren't happy with needing to make ultimatums like that, but this can't go on.

The actual Lucario and not that super-meter-Akuma-clone crap P:M has is someone I don't have a problem with. I really don't get why everyone seems to. (My Amiibo should be getting here aaaaany day now...)

I'd say something, but we're probably not thinking of the same thing, and I'm probably the only one here who likes :4lucario: in that way, anyway, so... o///o

Just as a heads up I gave kami the first post so I have something to take away from him if he acts up again. So go on and discus and behave y'selves but be warned, if you come here to cry about Lucario I will not save you from the hounds.
Why didn't you just give him OP in the old thread?

Based on my experiences lurking this board, I seriously doubt that you're the only one that "likes:4lucario: in that way".

He fears of using Yoshi cause he didn't like being criticized for playing an "easy" and "broken" character.
He also doesn't even post in the yoshi boards, he's prolly more of into P:M

The only reason there ain't 3 Mootoos is because it doesn't have the option for making him my Smash U main yet :p

I actually mean to post around more often, but I get caught up in a lot of things.

Primarily the SSB4 social thread and, more recently, the SWF Writer's Lounge. There's so many social threads here, man. Hard to keep track.

So I've been lurking around the lucario forums since Brawl times. Doesn't seem like it's been getting a lot of love lately though. ): are we allowed to discus anything lucario related here in this thread? Like combos and match ups?

Sounds good, thanks. The reason I've decided to stop lurking and post is because ever since I migrated from brawl, lucario changed a lot, and it's been somewhat difficult to get used to. He no longer strikes fear into the hearts of those underneath him now that his Dair has been nerfed so hard. His approaching skills are worse now too thanks to the smaller range and priority on fair. And his f smash. I used to space all day with those, but now it's easy to get punished, especially by the likes of a cap falcon.. my question to anyone willing to answer is how have you adapted to compensate for the major changes in his moves?

DAir has indeed been nerfed in terms from approaching from above while falling, I walked around with:
  • Wavebouncing
  • Fast-Falled NAir
  • ES out of there. (Not recommended..., but works sometimes)
  • Simply air-dodge
  • Actually try a DAir
Basically you'll lose if you go directly, but you can win with a perfectly spaced DAir.
As for FAir, its faster now, not as great as Brawl, but its still good. And FSmash, maybe you still need to get used to it.

I just play him as his own character. Accept that his moves require MUCH more precision to hit with and that he can't quite wall as well anymore. He is most definitely not brawl-cario. I forgot what it's like to have hitboxes that linger.

But spacing wise, I try and establish grounds with lots of n-airs, b-airs, and bounced auraspheres, and try to stay in that magical range brawl-cario does. Where it's just enough room to do retreating tilts/smashes, anti-air SH's with f-air, do quick run up grabs, and roam back and fourth, fishing to catch movement options.

His spacing game is defs worst, but at the same time I can't really complain when sphere charging is such a strong option now and his recovery is much more braindead so I just naturally live longer. Forcepalm being a reliable kill move is awfully helpful as well.

I personally don't like the playstyle as much as brawl. I like spacing oriented characters with dependable options and decently respectable pressure, and honestly that doesn't feel like smash 4 cario, but eh. I'll main this blue doof for as long as he's in a videogame.

Thanks for the reply, and yeah, there's a lot I still need to get used to. But f smash did have a lot more range back in the day, which would give you enough time to retreat if they came to punish. Maybe my timings off, but a lot of the time I get dash grabbed before I can react. I've been noticing that fair can still be useful for chains, but they really killed it's short hop use on the ground. Back in brawl you could hit an opponent on the ground with a short hop fair. Now in days you have to literally be right in his face to land one from start up. XD
As for those back to stage mix ups, Ive used the b reversal to juke, and basic air dodging. Didn't think to use ES though, I'll have to try it out. I think I've done fast fall Nair a few times too. I just miss the good old days when you could air stall with dair ;w;

It's funny, the first time I started getting good with cario I told my friend he was my new main. And then my friend said "you do know all lucario mains are furries right?" And thus my introduction to the furry fandom. XD That quote has proven true with every cario main I've met so far lol. If your not a furry when you start maining him, you will be in good time.

But back to the discussion, I agree with you wholeheartedly XD hes a different beast from brawl cario. And yeah its all about that spacing. But sometimes I go back to my old habits and think I can just charge in with SH fair FF Nair OTL..
As for that aura charge though, it's a definite plus, with high percents you can even charge it near the edge to block their back to stage options from the ledge. Blocks out a lot of their get up moves if you space it with enough aura.

I've often times referred to lucario as a gateway drug into the furry fandom lol. That's where it stared for me and quite a few others I know. ^^"

I wish this wasn't true, but
It hasn't even been 12 hours and we've devolved into furry chat.

This truly is a lucario social
proof in pudding

After playing against a few more experienced carios I'm really starting to appreciate FF-nair as a spacing and initiation tool, but I don't think I've been able to optimize nair's coverage while fastfalling. Is it best to start nair at the peak of a short hop then fastfall, or something different?

e: Also lucaryu is the bomb. Speed and intensity of an anime fighter in freakin' smash.

N-air is my favorite aerial, I actually started using it to guard stage returns from the air, Mario, Luigi, Bowser it is pretty great against and others its just hilarious as N-air still has a tiny bit of deceptive range so I just jump up and bop them back away from the stage (multiple times if they keep trying to return by air instead of going for the ledge) and it appears pretty safe.

yeah nair is the best spacing tool he has. FF Nair also gives him a lot of followups like into dash grab for even more followups or a dash attack if they miss the tech.

yeeaaahh.. but a more of a bizarre sect of the fandom.. I'd say cario gets you right to the good stuff >w>
*ahem*

I can relate here. at first I thought Nair was useless because you cant short hop fast fall it into someone like in brawl. the hitbox doesn't come out fast enough so you just awkwardly wave your arms around for a second right in front of the opponent and do no damage XD. you have to time it differently for it to hit. But I've realized that this could be used to our advantage. the aura animation still keeps going even when the hit box stops. its deceptive. So Ive actually used it to bait a shield grab. you come down on him with the fast fall nair and time it so the hit box finishes before you reach him. hes waiting to hear the ting of his shield getting hit but by that time you already reached the ground with 2 frames of lag and can grab him instead before he realizes it.

By the way, is it FF -> NAir, or NAir -> FF (Minding a SH peak)?
You know, since FF is cancelled now by inputting any aerial now, I thought it has more sense doing FF -> NAir and have "more" NAir active frames, doing the other way might even cancel the NAir by landing...

Which is better?
EDIT: Is almost the same, the inputs are too quick to even notice the difference.
