I'd like to nominate the character Loto from the Dragon Quest series for Brawl. So here he is:

Mr. Toriyama's artwork is so awesome...

Loto (a.k.a. Erdrick in early English translations) is the legendary hero that the heroes from the first two Dragon Quest games decend from (the second Hero is a descendant of the first who is a descendant of Loto). He is also the Hero of Dragon Quest III which was named Famitsu's third greatest game of all time by the magazine's fans.

Gameplay wise, Loto has the standard Hero setup IE some attack spells, some healing spells, and some utility spells (teleporting, scaring away weaker enemies, remembering NPC conversations). I doubt healing would make him very fair in a fighting game so he'd probably use mostly his attack spells which involve summoning large fireballs and surrounding himself with lightning (his attacking B moves) and maybe his warping spell, which I'll call Zoom as it is called in DQVIII, for his up B move, which would give him a nice vertical boost. His A moves would revolve around his sword and shield and maybe take moves based on the other DQ heroes, though the eighth Hero is the only one we see fight.

For a stage, perhaps the first castle but the overabundance of castle stages says other wise so I dunno. For music, definately the Dragon Quest Overture for a stage theme (which is, ironically, listed as Loto's Theme for the DQIII soundtrack) and probably the level up music for his victory theme. Also, we would require that there be, without question, a slime item. A slime item would make SSBB gaming perfection.

Well, I think he could fit and his legendary/hardcore/oldschool status is all there. So what do you guys think?

OH! I played this game for the GBA! It was pretty good! I never got to finish it though....

Btw, here's an artwork for all classes in the game. There's a female version of him too!

Heheh, ya, they could use the female version if they wanted more females. I'd be fine with it but I dunno how the fanbase would react...<.<

And I'm not that skilled at making complete move lists but here's some B moves I came up with:

B: Frizz- Summons a fireball over their head and sends it crashing into the ground (kinda like an aerial PK Fire but more horizontally angled). 8-15 damage, has knockback similar to Link's boomerang.

>B: Falcon Slash- Lunges forward (slower and has less range than Fox and Falco's >B) and does two quick slashes if they collide with someone. Also, if someone is above them in the middle of this move, they will flash orange when they're right above them and, if you hit B at the right time, Loto will jump up in a fast, upward stab which won't have infinite height (probably less than Fox's maximum double jumped height). The two slashes do, maybe, 7-10 damage (with low angled knockback) each and the stab does 15-20 damage and has decent upwards knockback. Can only be used once in the air (has shorter distance [about 75%] as well] but does not leave Loto prone.

VB Kazap- Raises sword in the air and shoots white electricity into the ground around his feet, surrounding him in a cone of electricity. Can last for 2-3 seconds if B is held down. Does 4-5 damage (with little knockback) if a character runs into it, shaves off 2-3 damage off of energy based projectiles (halves knockback), deflects non-explosive projectiles, and explodes explosive projectiles, which can damage Loto if the part of the cone that the projectile hits is close enough to their body. In the air, the lightning would just shoot downwards around them and not have an extended duration. However, standing directly below Loto when Loto is performing this could put you in the "eye of the storm" and evade the attack.

^B Zoom- Channels energy below them and shoots them vertically, covering a distance slightly higher than Belay. Covers no horizontal distance and does no damage.

Haha, how funny. While I saw this thread, some Chrono Trigger songs came on my Winamp list, and I saw Trader female and Grappler male and thought.. OMG IT'S A RED-HAIRED MARLE AND A MAGUS WITH A PONYTAIL!

And yeah, Dragon Quest chars were the best. Loto would be cool, but Brawl already has alot of sword chars in it. =S I dunno.

Eh.

His chances are good, I guess, what with Dragon Quest being so obscenely popular for reasons I cannot grasp. But I hope he doesn't make it.

If any character designed by one of my least favourite manga artists ever could be in, it should be Crono.

I guess I'm sounding like a jerk now, but seriously, what does he bring? He has a sword. Okay. He's a knight. Okay. He uses fire and stuff. Okay. So? I can think of a thousand of flat, uninteresting characters who are badass, legendary and whatnot.

Loto is one of the most popular icons in Japanese videogaming. I friggin love DQ, I have played them all, but I think there are too many swordmen (and more to come) to put Loto in.

For music, DQ3 Main Theme, Overworld and Ending (And then, into the legend) would be in somehow. But since the first three games are part of the Loto saga too, music and stages from these games (Dracolord Castle, Mercado with the Golem) would be nice.

I've only played VIII, but it was such a masterpiece that I now consider myself a fan of the series. I think having Loto or some other character from a Dragon Quest game would be great.

I'd almost suggest that the main character from the upcoming Dragon Quest IX for DS should get in, but from what i hear the character is completely customizable...

The golden sun characters would make a better choice as magic swordmen IMO.
I agree with this guy totaly... Although I think it would also be a good idea in this perspective: why not make the male and female character as different suits, so instead of changing the suit color, they change sex in general? lol... that would be pretty cool.

Heheh. Well, parents might not like their kids being exposed to transgenderism. It's kinda like making Toadette a costume for Toad (if Toad makes it in) but a bit more extreme. :p

About the number of swordsmen in SSBB, I think there is an underabundance of weapon using characters and, even if most of them use the most common close-combat weapon, I think there should be as many as possible. ...They could always make Isaac a Loto clone...<_<

Also, they could always put Torneko in since he's slightly iconic and has gotten a couple of spinoff games:

But...I'd rather have Loto with is awesomeness and awesome sword (the Wyrmhero Blade in FFXII if anyone's played that).

Hmm...this wasn't the most popular thread ever but...I'll bump it anyway.

Here's a replica of Loto's Sword that was on display at the event where they announced DQIX was going to be for the DS.

Also, here's a shot of the Wyrmhero Blade (Loto's Sword in Japan) from FFXII. You get it for beating the two hardest optional bosses and, I think, a couple other things...pretty much 100% game completion.
