Its silly to say the game is "for" one thing.
I mean, yeah, we all want to have fun playing.
But we all want to win too.
In the long run, winning and being good will be fun.

I'm not trying to say that losing all the time is fun. But I believe that if you play this game for money, not fun, you won't have that drive to improve.

I don't think a single person in the world plays this game for money, even the people who make money. Well, maybe m2k. PP, Armada, Mango, etc all play for other reasons (their own arbitrary definitions of fun).

I play this game because it is fun to improve and challenge myself.

Yes. I play the game for fun, and i don't think that people play this for money. I was making a point that the reason we all play the game is for fun. Play low-tiers is a challenge and it is people like you that complain about me using low-tier that I dislike. If you think no one should play low-tiers, then go to all the low-tier character discussion boards and tell everyone to play high-tiers. Do disrespect intended.

Man you really don't read my posts, do you? I have never "complained" about you playing a low tier. I would rehash my point of view, but you probably wouldn't read that either, so i'll save myself the time. You aren't going to get any better until you can improve your mindset.

My b. I got you confused with someone else. My mindset is that I'll play my hardest to have fun with Link. There are some people that need to get 4-stocked by a low-tier.

Well let's not let that chip on your shoulder get too big.

Anyways, I think this topic is going nowhere. Just focus on improving yourself

Yes. This is not a low-tier/high-tier discussion. So let us be mature and about this and eave the argument, shall we?

I think someone else said it but definitely work the tech skill. Picking up fox/falcon and getting to a decent level would increase your overall speed with nearly every character then you could set about perfecting link/pika/etc

This actually hits on something I consider to be pretty important as far as training goes.

You can learn a lot by playing the character your main has the most trouble with for a while. If you are a samus main and you have trouble with marth, play marth for a while to get the feel of his capabilities/failings/etc. Getting to know your opponent's character lets you get inside of their head. Knowing what they are capable of and what they will probably do next is what allows you to read other people.

There is some truth in the low tier discouragement as well, despite playing multiple low tiers at a pretty good level (Kirby, Ness, G&W, Bowser, and Zelda if you're curious), I can safely say that I wouldn't be able to play any of them effectively without the time I invested as a Marth, Shiek, and Jigglypuff main.

Very interesting stuff, I actually picked up Marth, now my main, to learn his failing so I could beat my brother, very good insight, thanks.

What is ITT? I wish people would just realize that the game is for fun, not winning.
You generally have more fun when you win.
Edit: forgot that the thread had a lot more posts and that this had already been answered.

I know that it is more fiun to win. Some characters are more fun than others. I personally find Captain Falcon the most fun.

playing for fun and playing to win are almost always never exclusive ideas to any smasher. when people play to win, it means they're putting focus into their play and working towards becoming players while still having fun with the game they chose to become good at

you don't say this game is "about fun," the game's just always been fun and the only choice then is whether or not you want to go competitive.

I actually started with Pikachu and picked up Falco later lol
These dudes spreading misinformation... lol

I also started with Ganon competitively and stayed with him the whole time in tournaments. I think it's very important to choose a character(s) you are going to commit with in a tournament before hand because in this way you can be prepared for all the matchups you will face. I mean that you definitely need to grind many many hours into the characters you want to bring in the competitive setting. But it is definitely on you to choose how you want your road to be, of course playing a lower tier will mean that you will have more limitations however if you understand them correctly then you can compensate for that weakness... how well you do that will determine if you will completely outplay the player. Again, you have to understand all situations very quickly, understand that some positions for you are worse than others, also how hitboxes interact with each other and what you can do with those moves. I think it's possible to defy the odds but you really need to be super strong as a player, your personal skill will show how far you can go.

Yeah. I love your Ganon. I think that to fully understand a character, you need to play him for hours. And tech skill can be improved on by higher tiers.

P.S. I'm sorry for the purple eye **** of me replying to someone.

Mad respect Kage, your Ganon is godlike, thanks for the advice, low tiers take allot of work but are legitimate.

Just watched B- vs. Intimidator in Falcon vs. Gannon/Puff. Not gonna lie, that was super painful to watch. I counted like 7 landed random Falcon Punches. On top of that, he kept throwing out random smashes (that connected SOMEHOW). For the Puff, use your freaking aerial range and speed. Without those, Puff has nothing.

Everyone still needs to just sit down and practice movement. Forget about uploading videos for a while except if you need something specific critiqued. Right now, the product isn't read for showtime.

yo guys, i appreciate your desire to use multiple characters, but i honestly think you guys should just pick one char to practice/main and get good with instead of fooling around with a bunch of secondaries that most probably will not get you anywhere

Just having fun, son. We each have set secondaries and we are just fooling around, not really practicing. Nothing wrong with having fun, is there? Also B- hasn't played Falcon in like a year and I don't play Puff or Ganon much. It was put up for Dr3W's pleasure.

No of course not, but its kinda a **** move to post videos for critique and then reply to every criticism as "were just messing around, leave us alone". If you're not going to try to be serious, don't post them on smashboards. You guys really really need to work on your tech skill/movement, as a few people have said already.

Don't worry, we are taking the comments and working on playing with those in mind. We have some differences in our way of think of the game, I play to have fun while still trying to be the best. I think that it is fun to dabble in other characters but when I'm playing seriously, i stick to my main and secondary. It would be boring watching the same 4 characters fight with the exact same play style.

Intimidator, I'm sorry, but you don't get it. You're hiding behind "having fun" as if it's an excuse to brush off all our criticisms.

No I'm not. You are the one misunderstanding. It is a game. What is the point of a game. To have fun. I want to have fun while at the same time getting better at the game. Wee are listening to your criticisms. Most of our matches were recorded before the criticisms. So don't just jump to any conclusions when you don't full understand what we are saying.

Second match is better than the first. Please critique. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PjJMhIoqzdc
your movement is getting better. your regrab tech chases are pretty good, though you should work on incorporating hard read fairs/dairs into your tech chase game for maximum effect. dont jump super high for an edgeguard against falcon unless you're certain you can snipe him. this goes doubly sure on fd. falcon's recovery has monstrous lag if he doesn't grab the edge, so just cover the edge and if he definitely looks like he'll recover on stage, just run up and knee him

intimidator doesn't tech a lot. in fact, he often just falls and does getup attack afterwards. this is something you should work on punishing. instead of trying to grab it, dash dance just out of range and when he does it, fly in and knee him. also, i think you should knee his raptor boosts instead of grabbing them. does a lot more immediate damage and still usually sets up for better stuff later. stomp also works well too. basically, if he does anything that's egregiously laggy, knee or stomp him and make him really feel bad for throwing out laggy moves.
also, im pretty sure you already know this, but falcon punch is a very trolly move. don't use it to win XP
having said that, here's a funny setup for it when you wanna make someone feel bad: dair -> falcon punch (works if they don't DI the stomp)

works above 70% if i recall correctly

you can try it at lower percents like 50% though if you feel confident they're not gonna tech it (which usually isn't true, but in your guys' case... XP)

Yeah, InTimidator doesn't really play Falcon, so not the most fair matchup haha, but yeah, thanks for advice.
