Kirby's Tourney Results Thread

Hey all, since jiovanni stopped updating this at the start of January this year, I, your friendly neighborhood moderator Kewkky Fromundaman Kewkky, will now take on the task of updating tourney results! I will also rank the kirbies who do best in tourneys to drown out the whole "I'm the best Kirby!" shebang, if you're a good Kirby then PROVE IT AT TOURNEYS AND NO JOHNS!

I will only be able to update this for 3 months before I leave to basic training, so whoever is up to the task later on, as we get closer to the date, he/she can ask to take the thread and I will choose who's the most responsible Kirby around the boards and choose HIM as your next leader!

Also, Y.b.M's and ChuDat's tourney results are never posted around here. I'd be very grateful if someone could find out their results from now on, and post them in this thread.

I've only gone to 3 tournies thus far, but I'm becoming more and more active, so I'll have more soon.

So far, I'm nothing special, but I feel as though I'll be improving rapidly, as I'll be playing players such as Deva, Valdens, Praxis, Itakio more in the near future.. (best in my area).

Almost beat Gimpyfish at IES. lol.

have a double before a tournament and make sure you re-up when the buzz starts to fade. It'll calm your nerves and helo you think clearer. You need enough to just loosen up, your performance will probabl show it.

I had the same question as JoWiiCIDE. How do you rank people who use multiple characters? I use Kirby, MK, and Dedede and it's based on match-ups, not personal preference (I <3 d-throw on Snake).

Also, how will tournament results create an overall ranking? Obviously getting higher placings in some areas is much harder than others. Alternately you have to look at the skill level of players (getting 1st/50 at a scrub tourney shouldn't matter as much as 1st/5 in which you're playing against Gnes, Tyrant, NickRiddle, and Fatal).

I think a standard should be Kirby in a majority of your matches. That much is obvious.

Also, this is Kewkky's thread so I'm only offering an opinion but maybe regionals should count more than state tournaments, tournaments with bigger names should count more than tournaments with scrubs, and doubles should be included but count less than singles. Those are my thoughts, I'd like to see how Kewkky does it though.

@ JoWii: Well I think tourneys with more attendance should count more than tourneys with less attendance. Not meaning any disrespect, but your suggestion is why we have Brawl Rankings over at the tourney section. My way of ranking them (in due time) is to show who's the most successful Kirby, the one who's taken home the most money. And of course you have to go a majority Kirby! How would this be a Kirby Results Thread with no Kirby used, or a secondary more than Kirby, or even a single Kirby match to counter an opponent's character? As with any tourney results thread, we'd need some proof that the tourneys happened, so after a day or two more of people posting results here, I'll be needing links to results, to know if they really went mostly Kirby or not.

@ jiovanni007: remember that we're a family-oriented site, so talk of alcohol is looked down upon by the site's staff members. I'm not as unforgiving as other staff members though, so all I'm gonna do is edit your post out a bit, okay? Just a heads up is all!

Well, there could always be a moment where a local has more players than a regional/international is all I'm saying.

I've gone to Smash tournaments with 30+ attendees where everyone was a random/noob. There have also been events near where I live that have had 100+ attendees where the biggest competition was mediocre at best.

What can we use in addition to the number of attendees for ranking?

Ummm... I think we are taking this "ranking" too seriously. It's really too hard to be completely accurate with this. If people really wanna get down and dirty they can go to the tourney results thread and look at the competition themselves.

Also I don't really think counting doubles for anything is worth it. There's just too many variables when it comes to teammate, teammate character, and opponents' characters that it's just a mess to say a certain Kirby does well in teams, when it could be the partner that is carrying the kirby or some other thing.

If you want to make your tourneys count, the results have to be posted in SWF's Tourney Results forum, and a link has to be posted here along with your tourney info. Sound good?


EDIT: Would you guys prefer a simple Kirby tourney results thread? Now that I think about it, when I go to the Navy and someone else takes over they probabl won't want to have so much work to do so, i guess I'll just forget about it then... I would've loved to do it and maintain it though.

I've gotten 1st place at my local tournaments, but I doubt they count.
Me and my friends went to Kingsville, Tx for a legit tournament not to long ago.
I got 3rd out of 37 players.

Lost to Trent's Sonic cause I was too lazy to camp him back I'm pretty sure. I won first game pretty easy, then I just got lazy. Then I played Twink's Marth, was ok and not hard, won. Then I had to play Moe, #1 in my state in 2nd round losers.... Lost 3rd match via time out. I'm so salty after this tourney. Breezy placed 5th, which kinda makes me mad cause I've never lost to him in over 2 years.... and he got that high while I placed 17th. Just frustrating when you look at the results and you count the people above you and you reach just over 15 people you're pretty sure you're better than. Random seeding needs to die. After the johns though, I'll just have to try harder and expose people at the next monthly this coming weekend.

Don't worry about it Triple R. It happens to everyone, there's a tourney or two where everything just goes wrong and you end up with a very crappy placing. Just make sure that next time you don't do the same mistakes.

It's not that they're missing, it's that they're old results and I would rather get newer ones instead. There's nothing wrong with them at all, it's just a simple case of "up-to-date metagame tourney results".

The original reason they were never really added I think is because the old tourney result thread had a minimum of 16 participants to be recorded, which that one didn't have.

Yeah, I took all the tourneys I could from the old tourney results thread and posted them here to have something to start with, and apparently that one wasn't there. I then decided to just take recent tourneys instead of looking around for older ones, but I guess I can add that one in. A tourney is still a tourney no matter how many people participate, as long as money was handed out at the end.
