So out of curiosity, and I don't mean any offense, but why is your tag WinterKirby when you play a red Kirby? Sounds more like a SummerKirby to me. lol
I used to play blue in PM, and I switched to orange when Smash 4 came out because I liked how it looked, but now I play whatever color.

Looking for some critique, I'd post som of my tournament matches but none of them were streamed.

You have really solid spacing, but I feel like, much like me, you could probably work on utilizing your punishment game a bit better. Like, if I were to fthrow>uair, I'd follow up with a regrab instead of a dash attack. Also, dtilt and ftilt isn't super safe at low percents, in fact I'd follow up with another dtilt to avoid getting hit after to hopefully land a trip or retreat with a fair if you don't. But yeah, looking into what kind of punishes are most optimal (so you don't miss stuff based off of lack percent knowledge) is what I'd work on next. And don't be afraid to go for dthrow instead since it tacks on good damage should you not be at the ideal percent for followups out of fthrow. Solid Kirby stuff, and you hope you improve from there!

I blame lag for that dash attack, though for everything else, I really appreciate the advice. I'll keep working on it.

I watched a few of the matches. While I see quite a few good things there's a few things you should really work on.
For starters, while DThrow is great damage, at low %s it's generally seen as a better idea to go for FThrow as it can lead to some nasty follow ups; getting 40+% off of a single FThrow string is fairly common with some good reads.
In addition, sad as I am to say it, you can't play so agressive (and if you do, be safer about your agression) this is particularly noticeable in the first two matches where you would just hold out a BAir and not even fastfall, and you have a habit of whenever you're above the opponent you always come down with a DAir. Mix it up; Stone, while punishable, is a great option to throw out every now and then when people think they can juggle you. Focus on landing, not getting more hits. Kirby loves being on the ground as he's one of the best jugglers in the game himself. Don't always take the offensive approach to getting down.
Also, you use DAir a lot. While it's a fantastic move you can get a potentially better punish by luring your opponent into thinking you'll dair on landing most of the time, do a HUP cancel, and go for the grab as if you read them correctly they'll shield in response.
So all in all, stay grounded, work on strings and mindgames, and mix up your landings. Do that and I guarantee you'll see improvement.

What is HUP Cancelling? And what are other ways to land, I've always had trouble with that

It looks good for the most part. Just try to catch on a bit more to your opponent's habits to use the right attacks in the right moment. Right now it feels i little bit like you're just throwing out a lot of random attacks whenever they seem to be safe to do, which is good for pressuring the opponent, but so many attacks are avoided because you don't have the right timing or you should have used a different move. It's impossible to always read what they will be doing, but try to focus a little bit more on predicting your opponent's movement and taking the punish opportunities that are offered to you! Otherwise, your general gameplan and execution looks pretty solid.

What is HUP Cancelling? And what are other ways to land, I've always had trouble with that
A mindgame trick, really. DAir has a huge autocancel window (where using a move but only getting normal landing lag) at the start of the move. If done correctly, Kirby will yell "HUP!" like he does at the beginning of a DAir, but no hitboxes come out and you can act immediately after hitting the ground.
You perform it by pressing the C stick down for a DAir and immediately fastfalling. For people who don't know about this (it can mess up people who do know too!) the HUP is a huge indicator that "Kirby will attack", so people put up their shield. Because of this, you can get a free grab or inhale because the opponent fell for your mindgame.
As for landing options, there's several:
The direct approach (beat out the opponent with a DAir) useful at times, but often loses to disjoints like, say, Meta Knight's UpB.
The direct approach part 2 (Stone)
Also useful at times as stone beats pretty much anything, but more punishable if whiffed.
The direct approach part 3 (Inhale)
This is for the opponent on the ground who expects you to DAir/Stone their shield. Use sparingly.
The indirect approach (airdodges)
If the opponent is threatening you with massive disjoints, airdodging is a solid option to weave through their offense.
The indirect approach 2 (baiting)
Remember you have multiple jumps. You can bait attacks from below, weave away, and then fastfall through their offense.
Lastly, you can go for the ledge or just away from the opponent. The ledge provides invincibility so it's nice, but it can be rough to get stage control against certain characters.
Those are your main options.

Those are your main options.
I would like to add some things:
  • Fast falling with N-Air. If you start the N-Air with good timing so that the first hitbox hits just as you're landing, you will be able to use a Jab just afterwards regardless of if they shield the move or not.
  • Landing/HUP-cancel into a Jab or D-Tilt. D-Tilt is especially good against characters whose Grabs you can duck under while Jab might be better to beat out other characters' Grabs. Against those that can't grab a ducking Kirby, you could even just land and duck immediately to bait something out.
Baiting with multiple Jumps is very good as a complement to FF N-Air. If you have used FF N-Air before, you can start to fast fall against the opponent but jump away just in time to bait out your opponents attack/Grab. Then punish with a D-Air or Stone or something. This is very good for being unpredictable. This is also when Inhale comes in handy as a mixup.

You roll way too much. Try to walk/run more. Use d-air less, fastfall n-air into the ground if you're going to use it. Also, play more defensively. Let him approach you.

Hello, guys. I'm new to this forum. Could you give some feedback about my Kirby?

Here are some recent videos:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yopMGDQHZ-0 (Kirby vs Toon Link - Wall of Pain)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P4uuaGNR6Gs (Kirby vs R.O.B - Combo)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3XuRLQ1uX34 (Kirby vs Megaman)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bc148erhzWA (Kirby vs Marth - Wall of Pain)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XeYsK684U3U (Kirby vs Zelda)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K7qBkRicySY (Kirby vs Link)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IxOORN43HqY (Kirby vs Link - UpB spikes)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WeCJhCTnSUA (Kirby vs DK)

The videos are ordered from most recent to oldest.

Well, some problems I can see my self:

- I don't use the pummel at all. I just don't react fast enough after the grab to be confident to do 2-3 pummels before throwing.
- I barely use N-air. Sometimes I see that the oponent is very near me, in the air, and that I should use N-air. But I conclude that too late. And I can't remember other situations to use it.
- I just learnt how to catch items someone throw at me, but I still have problems to catch items like a banana on the ground. I think I catch aproximately 40% of the time (jumping on it and teching).
- I'm finally stoping to use dash attack on accident. I used to do it a lot when I meant to use some tilts. I'm also trying to stop rushing too much.

All I can say is just to learn how to space your aerials better, 3/4 of your aerials miss and you get punished. Don't jump too much, try to stay defensive.

Here are some of my matches from my past biweekly.
I'm a lone kirby main here in Texas. I'm sure there are others but I'm the only one who has been going to tournaments as far as I know and have been putting up results. I live in Abilene right now but I'm from San Antonio.

Grand Finals
KO (Kirby, Mario) vs Yellowrello (Yoshi, Ness, Lucas, Mario)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-2bHhyAUL1s
I start playing Kirby at 7:50.

Winners Finals
KO (Kirby) vs Yellowrello (Yoshi, Mario)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yqET7oYfojE

Losers Finals
KO (Kirby) vs Tripswag (Diddy Kong)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7zX0KdaNc7E

Yellowrello is one of the best Yoshis here in Texas who I have trouble with.
Any advice would help. I know I missed some inputs where I meant to smash and I end up doing something else.
I just feel like it's a tough matchup for kirby. But I don't think it's impossible.

In general vs. Yoshi, you really shouldn't be playing aggressive vs. him, which is what alot of players fail to understand (cuz muh offense), so instead let him approach you and play the campy/defensive game, forming defensive, spacing walls and keeping Yoshi away (tilts, bairs mostly) and stay grounded as much as possible. Yoshi has **** spacing tools, which is something Kirby can take advantage of to a degree. Basically, don't take unnecessary hits and keep up a strong neutral game as much as possible. Take him to battlefield or Lylat, as you essentially take away his downB punishes and egg game.

One think I noticed is that you use a lot of Jab Jab + Dtilt and sometimes Jab Jab + Fsmash. Are they garanteed?

They are not guaranteed. I just do those for mixups. It comes out really quickly so if the opponent doesn't react fast enough it can be effective. It's also good for shield pressure. Sometimes I jab twice quickly and if they shield, I can quickly grab them. I noticed some characters can nair out of it though like he did with Yoshi a few times. I kinda like throwing out hitboxes just to maintain pressure.

EDIT: I am assuming they are not guaranteed but on some characters and at some %'s they might be I doubt it though. I never took the time to test it.

Was skimming through the latest ShiG uploads and stumbled upon this. Considering you basically never see Kirby in Japan and definitely not a good one, I figured I'd drop it off here since he probably can't himself.

Sorry about the quality btw but I came to share this video of me playing during an international tourney here in Paraguay a few months ago:
(My match or at least part of it is on the first 7 minutes of this video)
I wasn't particularly playing great or anything and to make matters worse the player I was up agaisnt didn't do as good as he usually does either (I guess we were both a bit nervous for some reason. First time playing on a stream and also just my 2nd big tourney haha)
I improved quite a lot since then but still, any critique is fine by me.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dp0iv8zNBcA

btw that reverse UpB at 3:39 was an accident AND can anyone explain to me how the hell it actually hit him??

I came to this thread to actually drop this set too haha. He has some solid patience.

The games with Kirby start at 53:22. Here I play against :4pit:,:4rob:, and :4peach:. I am welcome to all feedback.
You seem to have a habit of always landing with fair, if a good opponent foresaw that, they could easily perfect shield punished it. Try coming down with either fast fall nair or mixing in some tricky jumps. Didn't really see you use utilt much either, it's pretty good for covering your backside, which that Pit player got way with a bit. Optimize your throws! There's plenty of opportunities where you could've uair out of fthrow rather than upB. Lastly, try not to stay in the air too much, it gives up stage control and leaves Kirby vulnerable to landing traps, try to stay grounded more and mix up fast fall empty hops, he usually prefers the ground more anyhow.

Good tips. I'd actually love to work on Up Air combos out of F-Throw more than anything. Problem though is that at college, I am stuck with my 3DS which makes it impossible to practice follow ups after a fast fall U-Air. When I get home with the Wii U after the semester is done though, I'll definitely work on it.

Another thing I thought about was that you would probably benefit from practising some OOS options. For instance, I saw plenty of opportunities when you could have done a B-Air OOS. Good job for getting to grand finals!

SUUUUUUPERR late response but I noticed that you land with D-Air with lot. Lately I've come to learn two things with Kirby:

1. Kirby actually shouldn't spend too much time in the air. The flloats are great for bait and punish and are aerials are nice when they hit, but our landing is rather punishable. Instead stay grounded a bit more and counter your foe's approaches. Speaking of aerials, D-Air is great and all, but because of the start up you shouldn't try to overuse it. It gets pretty telegraphed after a while. Fast fall N-Air and retreating F-Air are better. Save D-Air for reads and punishes as well as spikes.

Here is the video I've been talking about making in other threads. It lists Kirby's combos and is mainly a guide for players who dont know that much about Kirby's combos aside from Dair and Fthrow. Most of the combos come from Timmy's guide, some from random posts I see around the boards, and some I found out. Im sure a lot of us here know this stuff, but I'll share it here anyway.
