You may be right about the workload, Pieman; it would take quite a lot to model four different versions to begin with. As for the claims of him being bland and generic, I think that's nonsense. He's an excellent character with loads of personality, and a formidable villain.

Wait, he didn't have a jetpack in DKC 3, it was more of a propeller...
Yes, it was a propeller. He still wore a hefty backpack for it, however. That may have had air exaust ports on it to keep him airbourne, but who knows.

Or
Workload? I don't think that'd actually be too intense. As I said, it'd only change his B moves since I'm sure the A moves would work well enough for any persona. Modeling four different hims is absolutely nothing compared to modeling 290 trophies! With AR in melee, you can easily make one character model imitate someone else's moves... I doubt having four models with the same moveset would be difficult at all.

And really... I just kind of like the idea of him being so psycho that he actually has multiple personality disorder.
I'll change my post to reflect what you guys have told me.

Note: I never played DKC3, got turned off by the fat baby and the lack of DK or Diddy.

Good point, qdmbp. I didn't even consider the trophies. With that in mind it doesn't seem so far-fetched. Of course the trophies didn't need to be fully animated, but it still seems a viable option.

Sure, but the games themselves suggest otherwise.

I like the idea, but I'm also cool with just having the evil scientist look and etc. available as alternate costumes. If someone made a good sturdy move set, then that'd be enough for me.

Over the last few days, a nasty thought crossed my mind.

If K. Rool were to make it into Brawl, what would he look like?

So far, it seems that most characters' appearances and levels are being taken from their most recent big outing. So we have things like Twilight Princess Link, Delfino Plaza and Rumble Falls. But what was the last game K. Rool appeared in?

As far as I know it was DK: King of Swing, a GBA title by developer PAON. He's also slated to appear in PAON's upcoming efforts, DK Jungle Climber and Donkey Kong Barrel Blast. Unfortunately, it looks like PAON has seriously redesigned him. Long description short, he now looks far less menacing and a lot goofier. I hope this change is not permanent, as it really doesn't hold the appeal or charm that made me a fan in the first place. I'm worried about PAON's portrayl of him as a whole, but let that pass.

And what came before that? Super Smash Bros. Melee featured K. Rool as a trophy, but it was horribly off-model. It's pretty disconcerting since most of the other trophies from different games were remarkably accurate. Only a year or two prior to that, DK64 featured a low-poly K. Rool that was spot-on; and it remains the last time that we've seen him on-model (unless you count the GBA ports). If Melee got it wrong, can we expect Brawl to get it right?

What this means for K. Rool is that even if he makes it in, we might have to accept that he won't be looking like himself.

Yeah, this K. Rool looks pretty stupid. That's from a DS game though, he should look way better than that on Wii. I'm pretty sure that if he gets in the game he'll look more like his original appearance.

I wish that were the case, but the website for Donkey Kong Barrel Blast has the full character lineup displayed. http://www.nintendo.co.jp/wii/rdkj/chara/index.html
K. Rool's at the bottom right.

Don't get me wrong, I really am looking forward to these titles. They're looking to be the best Donkey Kong games since DK64. But I can't shake the feeling that one of my favorite villains is being ruined.

I wish people made movesets that were a little easier on the eyes...
i wish i could disagree with you on that one

and i cant shake the feeling youre right. ever since the DKC-series of games ended, K-Rool's become a bigger joker than ever before. of course he would still make an excellent villain choice for brawl but the DK franchise has tarnished his image starting from DK64 (taking a boot in the ***) and then progressively getting worse.

What do you mean? I thought the DK64 game was pretty **** good. Although, I never got to K. Rool. I knew how, but I hated that stupid Jet Pack game, so I never tried getting the score needed for the Nintendo Coin. Or Rare coin. Which ever I needed.

hopefully the next DK game for wii will go back to it's roots. i do think that DK Jungle Beat was pretty good, but no elements of DKC was in there. the next DK adventure game should go back to the roots of DKC

Ahmen to that. DK Jungle Beat didn't even feature the Kremlings as the villains, did it? Also... Out with the bongos. Why couldn't tehy just leave DK the way it was? It was a better game that way. They said they wanted to change DK up a bit didn't they? Well look at Mario, not to much has changed for him... It makes me mad that they killed a great series like that. Some of you may not agree with me when I say they killed off DK, but in my opinion, I think they ruined DK with the bongo crap.

EDIT: That was offtopic, wasn't it? lol

i never said i hated DK64. in fact it was one of my favorite N64 games ever. i said that it tarnished K. Rool's badass image and gave it to Krusha (a.k.a Kasplat) instead (****ing gangster costume lol).

i agree. that was what i hoped DK64 would accomplish and it only did that like 50-60%. i want a full 3D roaming DK jungle adventure...no bongo banging, no music playing (unless its Diddy's boombox), and no monkey's with absurdly large knockers. i want to experience DK in its former platforming glory with up-to-date visuals

I kind of take the opposite stance really... K. Rool made great strides in DK64. For the first time we got to hear his deep reptilian voice, and see first hand how brutal he can be to his subordinates. Although the game is mostly a lightweight adventure that doesn't take itself seriously, the K. Rool cutscenes were played completely straight. One of my favorite moments is when K. Rool causes Army Dillo to faint just by staring at him.

As for the booting... well yeah, the entire denoument was just silly. At the time I felt ripped off, but now I think that it was a fun conclusion in the spirit of the rest of the game. I understand why you'd disagree though.

Personally I think DK: King of Swing is where things went downhill for him. In addition to looking stupid, K. Rool dropped his regal speech patterns and talked like a common thug. His dialogue sounded like it was written for Bowser. Not to mention his motive in the game is completely pointless save for spoiling the Kongs' little festival. And we can see that the new renders are anything but flattering.
I'll give PAON credit though - at least they pay attention to the Donkey Kong series, instead of snubbing it and doing whatever they please (hello Jungle Beat). So far PAON is the only developer to actually use K. Rool along with multitudes of other DKC elements.

K. Rool fed Kasplat to a giant Klaptrap in the end. That's a little more badass than cheesy gangster costumes. That entire cutscene was great actually, K. Rool had Kasplat completely at his mercy. Too bad K. Rool doesn't believe in mercy.

K. Rool did show some good villain traits but the overall tag team wrestling match type thing killed his character for me. i guess it mightve been a side-effect of the kongs goofiness

wel ltrue, but i never expected goofiness from the enemies either. i dont recall enemies being goofy in DKC1, DKL1, or DKL2 (i never played DKC 2 or 3 or DKL3 so im a litle left out). even still though, i guess when you give enemies a personally (starting with DK64) in a series thats not all that serious, then i guess its understandable for them to be a little goofy too

There's plenty of funny/goofy stuff in every Donkey Kong game, but there have also been some pretty powerful moments. It usually wasn't through plot or dialogue, but from the atmosphere. I don't laugh when playing the snow levels in DKC, or practically every level of DKC2. A game that never took itself seriously wouldn't have a soundtrack that haunting. The games are a mixture of comedy and power.

DK64 brought the jokey antics of Banjo-Kazooie along with it, but it doesn't work quite as well.

oh well, seriousness or complete sillyness, K. Rool deserves a brawl spot.
Maybe they should put him in as Kaptain K.Rool. He seemed like much more of a villain that time around: Creepier, scarier, more violent (shooting cannonballs and toxic gases out of a musket). Not to mention that he'd kidnapped DK.

K. Rool, if in, would be in his classic king form. It doesn't make sense to use one form that's from only one game, instead of the one that's been used for his first apperance, and all his most recent ones.

i dunno, classic king sounds fine to me. togglable alternate costumes wouldnt hurt though
i would love to see kaptain k. rool, brawl needs more pirate rep
sorry, but thats just preference talking

mostly agreed but the ability to change colors AND costumes couldnt hurt (maybe thatll be a how-to-play update, it would be lame and not too discussable but at least itll be cool to know)

Oh yeah, fun fact. King K actually has a fifth costume that he used under Rare, but it's largely unkown, since it was for the cancelled Donkey Kong Pilot.

Seems like Rare was the ones who loved to dress him up, and as soon as Nintendo got him, they just stabalized it all. o_o

Well, that is a common fact for Rareware(back then)fans and Donkey Kong fans alike. K. Rool should take his King if anything. That is the most common and popular...plus it looks Bad@$$! If you read like three pages ago, you know I am for K.Rool all the way. He is a(would be)great addition for the Brawl Roster!

I had no idea K. Rool was so popular... I don't see the appeal. Bowser fills the spot of "big, heavy villain I don't reaaally care about and cannot take seriously" just fine for me.

thats probably cuz the DK franchise has lost a bit of popularity over the years since REAL platforming DK games havent been released for a while. even still, more villains ARE needed for brawl. if we get K. Rool, Ridley, Wolf, Dedede, and Blackshadow...i will be one slap happy mother****er
