[collapse=Some videos are on Nicovideo. HOW TO WATCH THEM:]
With registration:
1. Log in → Watch
2. Log in → Download it through add-ons
You can also log in with Facebook

Without registration:
3. No need to log in → use a proxy.
4. Use proxy → download it. (doesn't work for me)

But no matter which method you pick, Nicovideo will still suck.[/collapse]

notes:
Smashboards is ****ing dumb for not having a table formatting thing
Tatsuman has two characters because he changed mains (Yoshi is the newer one). His handle can be found as Tatuman on the yane channel, not sure why (someone will know this, though his twitter account has the s).
Pictures of players can be found in their profiles in the outdated popularity list.

shiz man awesome list!! iirc (from sheer's old japaneeze vid thread) replacing nicovideo.jp with nicozon.net acts as a proxy of sorts and allows you to watch without needing to register or anything

UPDATE:

added:

• Kanto 2011

and two online tournaments:

• Spring 2011 (107 entrants)
• Spring 2012 (201 entrants)

as well as their full bracket (!!!) and notable/known players who entered it. Bashi and Akagi from the pre-Kanto 2013 stream today participated, for instance.

----------------------------------

I also found a quick way to count the characters used, so I did a a Character usage distribution based on those two online tournaments. It's surprising how many Falcons there are despite the inevitable Kirby-on-DL match-up. For what it's worth, in both tournaments Falcon vs Kirby happened 30 times, with Falcon winning 7 games.

One bracket was linked here some time ago, I don't remember who did it. The other bracket I got by changing the URL. I've tried to mess around with it but I can't get to any more brackets. If YOU out there have a link for one, please share. I love brackets.

Thanks, Timo. I'm afraid I have organized that already. I'm yet to do the ones on your previous post, thanks for that.
It's a really interesting tourney though. Items on, other stages besides Dream Land, top players not using their mains.

Anyway, besides the one from Timo's first post, I've organized everything I found, and updated the character usage distribution.

And here's all the results I found of several tourneys. Tatsuman won the first 3 Kanto Tourneys, Jousuke won 3 in Kanto, 2 in Kansai, 1 in Chuo University, and 2 online. We don't have the registration list for most of the tourneys, so either Jousuke is unbeatable and doesn't register for every national, or he loses before top 8 and we don't know.

i know that the rescent tourneys jousuke hasnt won, he wasnt participating. In 2010 when I was there he didnt attend. And he didnt attend in 2011 either.

But Im not sure if he participated or lost in the first 3 that Tatsuman won.

I forgot I still have the bracket from kanto from top 64 to top 8. One round of matches wasn't updated on the whiteboard but you can infer the winners based on who made top 8. Some notable players were eliminated here like kikoushi and S. Most the names are written in Japanese characters with the exceptions of a few players like Sin and Wario. If someone wants to sort through these whiteboard drawings and attempt to make a more complete results post just let me know and I'll send you the bracket images

Thanks to madrush who snapped some pics of the brackets we now have the full bracket results from Kanto 2013, as well as most of the characters used.

You can go to the results section of that tournament to see all that.

Notable points:

Nangoku lost to a Fox in round 1

Jousuke beat Kikoushi in top 16 (round 3)

Tatsuman lost to Hitoshio in top 16

Bashi, one of the players from the pre-Kanto stream, was the highest placing Ness (top 32)

S lost to 売セカ in round 1

FAUST (using Mario) lost to Moyashi in round 1

sekirei lost to Ruoka in top 16. Ruoka didn't face any Kirbys in bracket.

Takuro~. lost to Toroori in round 1

There were at least 2 DKs in top 64. 3 DKs entered the tournament. (most likely)

There were 7 Kirbys in Top 16

UPDATE:

added:

• Kansai 2010 Festival (from Timo's post. Thanks for that!)

and online tournaments:

• Master Cup 2009 (from Timo's latest post. Thanks again!)
• Secondaries/Low tier Finals 2009: Jousuke vs Toroori.
• Asobinin Naisen 2010.10.02

There are a lot of Asobinin Naisen tournaments in that channel. They feature unusual characters, other stages, and items.
The Spring online ones had already been done before, and the nicovideo ones have better quality.

Also added a bunch of stuff in the Sources / extra info / etc section.

I also found an article on ruleset change for the online tournaments. I didn't understand very well the change, but anyway, it turns out that moving to the side platform and taunting before starting the match is a written rule.

The matches from Timo's post are either friendlies or non-top 8 matches, I think.

On November 2, 2013, another Chuo University tournament took place. (Tama campus, Hachiouji, Tokyo)

It had several known players, such as Sin, Prince, Sukekiyo, MEGU, Nangoku, and possibly Ruoka as well. Just ctrl + F 'Chuo U 2013' for the videos and results. Pretty good matches I thought.

This is the most recent console tournament to date.
[collapse=some dude vs Bashi on a widescreen?]

this pic was freely available on the web, don't get me at me for posting it here[/collapse]

On October 26, 2013, the online Fall season tournament took place. 155 people registered. This is the first time we get to see Jousuke sign up to a tournament and not get first place. Ctrl + F 'Fall 2013' for videos and results.

Note: this online tournament is most likely streamed for top 8 or more (see this). Also worth noting, Owata, the organizer, is connected to both players as they play. I suppose this only happens for top 8, and it makes sense to have a judge watching the game.

Does anyone remember Aniki and Masashi from Melee (~2006)?
I found it weird that this Buchimake Matsuri guy also uses the same Aniki tag (アニキ)

kansai 2010 festival was actually Osaka U, i think. that's what moyashi said. though it seems odd they held two tournaments that close together?

UPDATE:

  • The Kansai tournament usually happens around this time of the year, so expect videos soon (or not).

  • Added top 8 of Chuo U 2011.
Some of you have seen this already since it's been on youtube for a while (it was probably linked here somehow in the past). However the videos do not have any information besides the names of the players. Based on dates and results I've found from which tournament it was and made the bracket.

Now challonge finally has this feat where you can add links to matches. So simply click the letter on the set you want to see and it should show you the youtube link for the corresponding video. It's weird how often Jousuke almost loses.

Bracket link: http://challonge.com/jp11_chuo (bracket / results / videos)

cobr, your post is very confusing to me, partly because I can't see how something like that would come up. Did Moyashi watch the video in your presence and made the remark, did he see this thread, or... ? (Osaka is part of Kansai, in case you didn't know)
And I followed the description in the youtube video. if those are actually Osaka U 2010, then what I labeled here as Osaka U 2010 must be something else, and the sources say it is not.

Can't edit my big post anymore. Thanks aa.

i know you want to be the patron/godfather of the japanese smash in here. i think your deletion tendencies are inappropriate so you shouldn't have any editing power over any relevant thread.
i don't see how a redo is necessary. the only problem is the table of contents, which i've remade, but haven't edited it in because of the links problems. all the rest is working fine.

[collapse=Notes]- C'est fini. For future Japanese tournaments info and videos, check http://ssbonline.html.xdomain.jp/tournament.html around March (Kansai), August (Kanto), and November (Chuo U).
From there it should be simple: click the tournament and there should be a nico playlist after results and brackets. If there isn't, search on nico by using the tournament name. Searching with the tag of a top 8 finalist also works. Searching 動画 (vids) on that page days after the tournament works -- the Ctrl+F will catch the twitter feed on that page.

There are dozens and dozens of ranked matches (search 段位戦) with your favorite players on nico. If you want friendlies you need to catch it live. If you want to watch livestreams on livenico (you don't), find the players' profiles on nico and follow them, just like twitch. Or follow their twitter. You can find a twitter feed with the players in that page I just linked. Streams don't die after 30 minutes, you must refresh them. You can't see archives. "2Pってどなた?" = "who's 2P?"

- Tournament data: anything beyond top 8 is always a mystery due to the lack of brackets and registration list. But if you look closely, players will often post their tournament record in their pages (nico/blog/etc), saying they placed top 16 or something at certain tournament. Unfortunately I haven't found enough of those to make a comprehensive unofficial ranking thing. Otherwise, I have already compiled all the top 8 information from all the tournaments that have it.

- Sources: everything has a source and the sources are all linked at the sources section.[/collapse]

Damn you Smashboards and your half-assed formatting system.
