Also there are fans in Japan who may want those retro japan characters so don't assume they have no chance as this game is coming outin Japan as well.

ok then Lucas, Claus, Marth and Sukapon/Takamaru/Starfy if anything. I really don't want Ness replaced by Lucas just to have 1 mother rep again.

These characters are the ones who make the game more exciting and interesting.
Not for everyone. Sure, the more characters, the better, but it just doesn't seem right to overly cater to what just one country wants (especially after what Sakurai said about limiting Japan-only characters). Much of the nostalgia contained in folks like Sukapon and Takamaru is lost on the rest of the world anyway.

I'm not saying they're bad characters or anything. It's just that outside of Japan, they have very little support and very little interest. Which is why they should be limited.

I agree with that. I had never heard of Fire Emblem(except in Nintendo Power vol. 56, but that was a long time ago) before seeing Marth and Roy. Therefore, I was surprised and intrigued by their inclusion.

Variety is the spice of life, everyone! It would be rather dull and uncreative to play with the same characters in a fighting game all the time. Imagine what would happen if Mortal Kombat(in its golden years) only had "ninja" fighters in its roster(with pallette swaps, no less). Sounds redundant, does it not? We should be grateful that we are possibly going to get new unheard-of characters in Brawl's roster. I know I am.;)

Anywho, I shall focus on the thread subject now. I would at least like to see Lip and Takamaru in this game(and Sukapon, possibly).

There should be Claus to round out the Mother representation, and only ONE other. I don't care who it is, but I don't want Brawl to be swamped with characters that make European and American gamers yell "Who the hell is that?"
JPN only characters most likely will be limited, but only one more is downright reduckulous. Believe it or not, there are people outside of japan who know who these characters are. Heck, I knew about the famicom detective club long before I had the ability to utilize the internet. and I've seen people who knew about FE long before melee.

because we all know SSBB is being made in america, AMIRITE?

but in all seriousness, recognizability outside of japan doesn't matter all that much. Hell, sakurai (most likely) replaced a character well-known worldwide with a japan-only character. If that doesn't say something, I don't know what does.

Alright, I'll admit, four is reasonable, too. And Mother 3 doesn't exactly count, seeing as the series does have a foothold in America, and many Earthbound fans have played Mother 3 through roms and such.

And as far as your second argument: What? If you're talking about the whole "Snake was replaced by Roy in Melee" thing, that wasn't because of Japanese demand. It was because of the lack of time. It was easier to slap in a clone of Marth that would serve as advertising (failed advertising, mind you) than to build an entirely new character with a fairly complex moveset.

And recognizability outside of Japan DOES matter. Sakurai himself said he wasn't going to cater solely to Japanese interest, and would also listen to what America and Europe wanted. This lead to his desire for more Metroid representation, and Ridley getting four mentions in Sakurai's journal.

The point is that, despite that you may have known people who jove Japan-exclusives, the vast majority of American gamers don't care about them, and are likely to ignore them, nd especially with EVERY character appearing in SE, a lot of the story will be lost to people outside Japan.

He was referring to Lucas replacing Ness.

Oh yeah i forgot...so i change it to Lucas, Claus, Sukapon, and Takamaru/Starfy...though Starfy seems more likely than either Sukapon or Takamaru.
I've seen sites where is says Sukapon has a better chance than Stafy OR Takamaru...

IN Japanese too...

Sakurai even siad he wanted a game where Stafy and Kirby meet.

Stafy and Marth are the only ones I'm hoping make it in the game, any others would be nice, but un-expected.

Eh... Claus and Sukapon and if Sakurai hates us, he'll add Stafy or Takamaru.
He hates us in a 50% according to your logic.

Sukapon out, Takamaru in... AND Marth is no longer a Japan-Only character... FE11 anyone?

I want Sukapon, Takamaru, and Claus. However, I don't think Sukapon will make it, unlike Takamaru and Claus...

Otherwise Japanese characters i want are Stafy and Claus

I'm pretty sure we'll get 3 more max, and they'll be Claus(his game juat came out and he's a villain), Starfy(He's super popular over there), and Takamaru(for their retro character).

I'd love if Mike Jones was playable.

That's FE 1. Also, by the time Brawl comes out, he'll still be a Japan only character.

Why are people so uptight with Japan only characters? Really, they add more diversity.
