Mario is a very very fun character to play. His main problem is that he doesn't have any good KO setups, relying on getting dsmash and fsmash kills at very high percents. This forces you to outplay your opponent more than they will have to outplay you. So that can be one frustrating thing. If you're willing to deal with that, Mario is otherwise pretty dope.

Mario is generally faster than Doc by the way. All of his l-cancelled aerials have 1 or 2 less frames of lag.

At first, I didn't think this was a huge deal. But after playing mario for a long time and trying doc out for a bit, I realized immediately how much better mario's late aerials are on shield and against CC at mid percents. They have more damage (thus more knockback) and maybe more shield stun as a result I think (not sure). It really makes mario's close range pressure a lot better than docs, not to mention mario's better close-up nair (and late nair on shield).

Having a move that is strong earlier in the move is always going to be better overall. Mario's nair is easily better. That being said, Doc is a lot scarier in neutral, in spite of being slower.
