So basically like the title says, does anyone know if it is possible ot SDI the first hit of back air so that you can completely avoid the second hit, much like Fox's uair? And if so, which direction do you need to SDI?

it depends on what part of the hitbox hit you, and the trajectory of Ivysaur, but it's possible, yes.
The only cases I believe it's impossible to escape are when Ivy hits you with the innermost hitboxes, or if she's at the apex of her jump. If she's falling, rising or if she tippers, there's a good chance you will escape, it happens quite often by mistake.

As for which way, I wouldn't really be able to tell you. Up and away looks like your best bet imho but you should just test it in debug mode.

lots of characters can SDI towards the ground during the first hit and CC or put up shield before the second hit. This is especially useful for fast fallers. Fox comes to mind, he can actually do this if you hit him out of nair, even towards higher percents which can be frustrating since you get punished for attempting to punish his approach. In the air, if you get hit at max range or min range you can sometimes SDI through or away, but it's rare even if you're trying for it.
