The Wii will function with any internet connection, be it high speed, dial-up, or satellite. Your game performance will vary by which one you choose.

good I am not the only one.
Far from it, I only have Dial up too... I guess I won't be able to use the online features of Brawl, at least not now, Dial up is the only connection available that I know of right where I live (over half an hour away from the nearest town, which is small)...

Did you click those links I sent you? You should check this out, http://www.wildblue.com/aboutWildblue/index.jsp; perhaps it'll provide you with some info. It works just like any other high-speed internet, so your Wii should be able to connect to it.

There are a lot of places outside of cities that can't get fast internet because of location, not price. Dial-up can go anywhere a phone can be installed, though.
I may have been able to talk my mom in getting satelite so I may be set.

I am very serious asking this question: Dial-up internet still exists?
I know a lot of people who have dial-up. My girlfriend has dial-up so we can't play Wii or DS online. Not everyone is fortunate enough to have broadband. I had dial-up for the longest time until I begged my mom to get it when I got Animal Crossing: Wild World. I don't even have cable TV. Some people just aren't as fortunate as others, be it because of money, location, or other things. And it sucks. I heard you can use Wi-Fi with dial-up, but I don't know how...

If you're still into your DS, games like Mario Kart and Animal Crossing work O.K. with the Nintendo Wi-Fi USB Adapter. If you have $40 that you're willing to part with to try-er out, it might be worth it. I got a fair bit of play out of mine with my friend, and it's still useful if you upgrade to DSL someday.

Also, setting up your Wii on the internet with dial-up is possible with the same piece of equipment. However, to upgrade your console to the latest version to use the Wii Shop Channel, the download could take like 10 hours, and if your dial-up connection blips out or disconnects for even a second... you gotta start all over again. NES Games only take like a few hours to download though.

Basically, it's O.K if you're away from your house or sleeping when you start planning to do this stuff, nobody has time to watch a load bar or Mario hit blocks for hours on end. But don't touch your computer while the DS or Wii is on the internet, your dial-up connection needs to concentrate on one thing at a time.

thanks

Haha I would absolutely hate it if it was possible to play wifi with a dial-up modem. I mean I would seriously want to scream at my TV watching my wii trying to comprehend the other person's sanity. I mean you'd have to be insane to still be using dialup right?

Edit: I know it's not available in all areas, but to anyone that still has dialup look into Verizon's DSL (if available near you). It's cheaper than most dialup providers and like...a zillion times faster. It's not my first choice for broadband (I use cable) but it's a heck of a lot better.

I would if I could but there is nothing above dial up but satelite in my area, $$ is not the problem.
