Decided to calculate how many days it took between a DLC character’s release date and the North America release date of that character’s amiibo. This is what I ended up with.

Mewtwo: 200 days (April 28 to November 13, 2015)

Lucas: 223 days (June 14, 2015 to January 22, 2016)

Roy and Ryu: 279 days (June 14, 2015 to March 18, 2016)

Cloud: 585 days (December 15, 2015 to July 21, 2017)

Corrin and Bayonetta: 535 days (February 3, 2016 to July 21, 2017)

Piranha Plant: 15 days (February 1 to 15, 2019)

Joker: 535 days (April 17, 2019 to October 2, 2020)

Hero: 431 days (July 30, 2019 to October 2, 2020)

Banjo: 318 days and counting (September 4, 2019)

Terry: 255 days and counting (November 6, 2019)

Byleth: 172 days and counting (January 28, 2020)

Min Min: 19 days and counting (June 29, 2020)

Ryu currently holds the record for shortest amount of time out of all third party characters. Joker ended up taking as long as Bayonetta to release. Want to place bets on how many days it takes for Banjo and Terry to get amiibo I guess?

Why mention this

Ah yes, Mewtwo, Lucas, Roy, Corrin, Piranha Plant, Byleth and Min Min. My favorite third parties.
when I was specifically comparing dlc characters and noting how long it takes for a third party character to get an amiibo released after them compared to the first party characters.

Probably not. It’s probably in the contract signed between the two parties so it’s likely a stipulation that if that character is in Smash Bros. They HAVE to have the rights to make an amiibo of said character. The only think I could see being an issue is how much the licensee would get from Amiibo sales which they’ve probably settled on a pretty solid numbers that all the companies so far have been fine with.

So in short, nah. At this point companies are aware that of your character is in Smash they’re getting an amiibo.
