Hi everyone,
The purpose of this thread is to spread awareness and interest in an open tournament series taking place around Ireland between the months of May and September, Celtic Throwdown.
This event is the successor to the Irish Open Fighting Games Tournament, our biggest to date, attended by many players from outside the country, including some notable top players from the UK in particular. The hosts of the event, RandomSelect.ie and AsOne Productions, have invited Smash Ireland to be a part of the event this year, with Super Smash Bros. for Wii U being one of the main featured games in the tournament, alongside Ultra Street Fighter IV, Tekken Tag Tournament 2, and Mortal Kombat X; Project M will also feature as a side tournament at the main event. Like the Irish Open before it, all are welcome to come and compete, from Ireland and beyond.
In the run-up to Celtic Throwdown, the Road 2 Celtic Throwdown qualifier series will be held around the country, one in each of the four provinces of Ireland. Players who place high in the brackets at these events will earn seeding points for the main event, which will take place in the ballroom of the Ashling Hotel in Dublin on the 5th and 6th of September. It promises to be the biggest Smash event we've ever had in the history of the Irish Smash scene and the Irish Fighting Games Community, with official sponsorship from both Nintendo and Capcom, and high level players such as Jmiller and Izaw have expressed interested in attending, along with a host of strong players from the UK and Ireland.
You can find additional information on each tournament in the series through their respective event pages via the following links:
