Smash Journeyman
That's the biggest flaw in your argument....but is it really worth stripping out the soul of a game to make things "fair"?.
This "soul of this game" you speak of is clearly directed at casual Smash players. For tournament play, the things you speak of need to be taken away for it to even be a tournament able game.
Nobody cares which items you use or which stage you go to when it comes to casual play, but when you're dealing with tournaments, you need to take away things such as overly powered items or stages with random occurrences to create what a tournament is - a test of one's own skill.
