And today, this thread is hypothetical about "What if Smash never had 3rd Party characters, but only 1st Party and 2nd Party characters?", so if every 3rd parties weren't in the Game, what characters could you replace them according to your Opinion?

My Take on characters:
1. Snake = Krystal (Star Fox)
2. Sonic = Mach Rider
3. Megaman = ExciteBiker
4. Pacman = Chorus Kids
5. Ryu = Isaac (Golden Sun)
6. Ken = Elma (Xenoblade)
7. Cloud = Geno (Super Mario)(3rd Party Characters are not allowed, so Geno is off the Table)/Medusa (Kid Icarus)
8. Bayonetta (I know that Nintendo has rights to you, but you were 3rd Party back then) = Tiki (Fire Emblem)
9. Simon = Takamaru
10. Richter = Dixie Kong
11. Joker = Lip (Panel De Pon)
12. Hero = Andy (Advance Wars)
13. Banjo-Kazooie (I know you were 1st Party back then, but you belong to Microsoft) = Kamek
14. Terry = Urban Champion
15. Steve = Chibi-Robo
16. Sephiroth = Impa
17. Kazuya = Akira Howard
18. Sora = Ring Fit Trainee

For Brawl, I just picked from the characters who were confirmed and rumored to already be planned for the game.

For Smash 4's base game, I brought in one heavily rumored character and one of my own picks.
- Chorus Kids
- Lip

For Smash 4's DLC, I tried to pick characters who were getting new games at the time, as they would likely be prioritized as DLC picks.
-Inkling, to promote Splatoon. Because of this, Labo-Man is the first newcomer in Ultimate.
- Kamek, partially to promote Yoshi's Woolly World
- Elma, to promote Xenoblade Chronicles X

For Ultimate's base game, I've made sure the echoes are still echoes of the proper characters.
- Isaac
- Matthew (Isaac's echo)
- Octoling (Inkling's echo)

Ultimate's DLC is mostly a pattern of promotions and random picks.
- Officer Howard, to promote Astral Chain
- Captain Syrup
- Toxtricity, to promote Sword and Shield
- Mike Jones
- Ring Fit Trainee, to promote Ring Fit Adventure
- Tom Nook, to promote New Horizons

Advance Wars and Golden Sun were at their prime during the Gamecube/GBA era, it wouldn't be out there for these characters to then be in Smash Bros for Wii.

Pacman- Bandana Dee
Tropical Freeze and various Kirby games were out at the time so these characters had relevance.

Ryu- Karate Joe
Cloud- Elma
Bayonetta- Wonderful 101
A mix of then relevance and promotion.

Simon- Porky
Following the trend of Ridley and K Rool by adding a legacy Nintendo villain.

Richter- Black Shadow as a Falcon echo
Ken- Impa as Shiek echo
You're not replacing echoes with full fighters.

Joker- Labo?
Hero- Euden
Banjo- Akira Howard
Terry- Ring Fit Trainee
Much like Byleth, these are mostly promoting relatively new games as they were releasing but would be "fresh".

Similar to Vol 2 these are characters that have gotten a second chance, whether they were scrapped designs or were not ready during the launch of Ultimate.

Brawl likely would have Mewtwo in place of either Sonic or Snake. Roy and Dr.Mario could take the spot of the other. I have no doubt of this one.

Smash 4, I wouldn't know. Ryu, Bayonetta, Pac Man, Cloud and Mega Man are the new additions there. Mega Man was one of the biggest requests, so let's play it safe and replace him for the biggest first party requests as K.Rool or Ridley. Let's have both for Mega Man AND Pac Man. DLC has me lost, I could see Min Min or Spring Man being added, ARMS was around there right ? I could see Isaac too, with the lack of Cloud, and maybe the return of cut veterans as Wolf.

Ultimate I absolutely wouldn't know and is just about impossible to tell. I think we'd get a Zelda newcomer, probably / hopefully Impa and maybe a Champion of BotW.

No. ARMS released 3 years after Smash 4 so no, anyone from that game would not exist at that time.

considering sonic was a late addition to brawl that delayed the game for a while there wouldnt have any other characters in his place 3rd party or not. just something i think is worth noting
