Nintendo Maniac 64
Smash Apprentice
UPDATE: My (IMO) even better idea that in theory could be more widely accepted
So here's what I've been thinking. I REALLY like Brawl+, and I can probably guarantee (but I won't cause I'm very cautious) that several of my buddies along with a lot more of the smash bros. gaming population would like it if not for 1 thing:
Codes designed for tournament-style play
Even I myself am not into tournament play all that much, and I know my sister certainly isn't. But we still like everything else about Brawl+: better character balance, smoother flowing gameplay, no tripping, separate pokemon characters, etc. A solution could be to have 2 versions of Brawl+: Home & Tournament Editions.
Simply put, the current Brawl+ codeset would be what the "Tournament Edition" is.
The "Home Edition" is still the same basic idea of Brawl+, but without 3 things: codes that freeze & swap stages, the "Buffer handicap scale" code, and codes that change the default rules. (I personally would like to see the default time set to 3 minutes instead, but I may be the only one that thinks 2 minutes is too short. Thoughts?)
One big advantage of having a "Home Edition" is that Brawl+ can lose the label that it's only for so-called "tourney ***s". This will allow those gamers that aren't in it for tournament-style gameplay to enjoy the benefits of Brawl+ without compromising what they feel are standard Smash Bros. game elements.
Now you could just use BrawlPlusTweaker or CodeManager to make the changes for a "Home Edition", but not everyone visiting brawlplus.net isn't going to have heard of these tools, or possibly even know how to edit the codes correctly to get the results they want. Having a pre-packaged version just like the current Brawl+ is the easiest and best way to go if we want people to actually use it and not just say "forget it" if they have to custom make it themself.
EDIT: Remember, how many of these people that don't like specific things of Brawl+ actually KNOW that you can edit the codes and remove these unwanted aspects? I don't believe that's advertised anywhere on brawlplus.net...
And even if it's seems like a minor thing to change, it could still at least give Brawl+ a better reputation; that tournament reputation can prevent people from even looking into and considering Brawl+. Balanced Brawl (imo) isn't enough, but current Brawl+ is just a teeny bit too much.
Also, there's people with the homebrew channel for reasons other than Brawl+ (gecko os's region free gaming for example). And it's not exactly easy to tell someone how awesome Brawl+ is and then explain that they'd love it too but they'd need to get CodeManager and remove these 3 or so codes and they'd have to do it every time there's a new version etc. - much more of a PITA than just saying "get the home edition" or something.
EDIT 2: Almost forgot, for a home edition, it might be a good idea (though quite minor) to have the timer item disabled since it doesn't work properly with Brawl+'s physics changes. (the Assist Trophy Shadow and Luigi's Negative Zone Final Smash both have a similar effect, but their effect concept is more, uh, "strange & exotic" than what you'd expect from the timer item anyway so the screwy physics is right up their alley of weirdness). Sure you could just turn it off in the item switch, but someone getting Brawl+ for the first time wouldn't know that the timer item doesn't work properly.
EDIT 3: Crap, just remembered one last thing. For a Home Edition it'd probably be a good idea to not have the "Buffer handicap scale" code since sometimes people actually want to use handicap against their not-so-skilled buddies (though last time I checked auto handicap didn't work in brawl+, but at least manual did)
EDIT 4: and durrr, it obviously wouldn't have the "textures for competitive play", seeing that the home edition wouldn't be meant for, well, competitive play.
tl;dr:
Brawl+ Home Edition = Brawl+ without stage freeze & stage swap, maybe no "Buffer handicap scale" code, and no changes to default rules setting (MAYBE time of 3 minutes?). Also no custom textures for competitive play.
Brawl+ Tournament Edition = current Brawl+ codeset
