This thread will be used for posting videos of Little Mac gameplay for others to view. I will be compiling the videos here on the OP for easy viewing/navigation, and I will try to keep it up to date with video's posted in the thread. However, please specify if the video is before or after patch 1.0.4.
Feel free to critique or analyze the gameplay video's and discuss it in this thread.

As a rule, though, do not embed videos. This is quite harmful to many people's browsers, and can cause browser crashes. Simply put the URL instead.

Any chance you will be adding videos to the OP of good Little Mac play(when it becomes available)? I think it would be nice to have a critique thread combined with a thread to give players a better idea of how they should be playing the character. ^_^

Good question!

I plan for this thread to serve as a sort of video sharing thread, as well as a critique thread. As Little Mac's metagame advances, in time I would love if a more technologically gifted Little Mac main could make a sort of "how-to" video of sorts. It'll probably be a while for that though, as the metagame is really in the experimental stage, if that, at the moment.

Yeah that's understandable. Also I was meaning just good tournament sets of top/high level Macs too once the game becomes more developed, but either way thanks for answering my question. Super hyped for this thread now. :D

That poses an interesting question. What was the best Little Mac match you've watched or played so far? Why is it your favorite?

Guys see this battle, they had it in the Shulk video thread (come on guys! they had it and we didn't? we can do better XP)

Little Mac vs Shulk

https://www.youtube.com/watch? v=KnheMhjaU5o&list=UUHiFC0 SzngrFNyTcdfA-9cQ

This Little Mac did prety good, spamed side b a little and that's too punishable but he did good tanking and punishing aerials.

Also if you go to minute 8:43 you can see how Little Mac's KO punch goes completely through Skulk's shield and then KOs :D

So now we know that KO punch just ignores shields... oh boy

I saw these videos of yours the other day and overall I'd say you're doing pretty well, but I'd recommend a bit more down tilt, and when opponents try to lame you out at the ledge, use Down Smash, since it'll reach them below the ledge once thier invuln frames wear off. Your timing for that KO punch vs Bowser Jr. was amazing, great work on that. A lot of Macs either try to hold onto it too long, or blow it too early and you really just saw your chance and took it there.

One other thing is that you were going for an awful lot of grabs, especially vs. Jigglypuff, and while that isn't a bad thing necessarily because damage is damage, I think working more on your neutral game and normals would go farther for you.

Still, very good Mac play overall, especially this early in the game's life. You do a great job staying at center stage and not playing the opponent's game. The timing and spacing of your finishers in general is really spot on, you don't leave an extra inch for your opponents and you don't really show any fear or respect to what damage they could put on you in exchange, which I feel is a good trait for Mac players. Well done.

Thank you for those awesome videos!

You are making the wait for this game insanely unbearable. D:

And here I thought you were going to struggle against Jigglypuff. The movie showed me otherwise.
I KNEW Little Mac would have enough anti-air moves up his sleeves to make up for the lack of air offense. (And even then, I'm surprised you managed to knock Jiggs around while airborne yourself).

These vids are so freaking awesome!

I really love that when your opponent is at high percentages, aerials become additional tools for Little Mac, and THAT could throw people off who are used to Mac being offensive on the ground only.

I wanted to bring this battle here:

www.youtube.com/watch?v=6INKsSFrhyo

I'm really surprised.... villager played save and camped Little Mac in all of the battles, yet he won the last three matches, but most importantly i wanted to talk about the last match: Mac literally had
everything against him, a platform
moving stage where villager, a camper
good air fighter can air camp him
from below and yet, he was able to
even have the lead, and if it wasn't
because that counter killed him, he
would of won with the lead :)

If Bweet can fight and win in platforms, we can guys nwn

Also if you see the tree alone with villager far from it, Hit it, fsmash it! the KO meter goes up for just punching the tree XD

And if villager or any other character trys to legdecamp you do what Bweet did, shield the first atacks and then when he grabs the legde again punish him with a dsmash that will send him far far away..

Edit: Thanks for the videos Jtails, you're awesome :)

I can't tell you guys how fun For Glory is.

Little Mac vs Marth - Zero To Death

I get much mileage out of down smash. It's my second favorite attack only losing out to forward tilt.

Frankly speaking Venks, you are one of my favorite little macs to watch. Any idea what your Mac record is in For Glory? I've lucked out fairly well and am sitting around 100-5.

Let's see. I've got 2 hours and 48 minutes on my Australian 3DS as Little Mac with 55 matches and 4 losses.
On my Japanese 3DS I have 14 hours and 19 minutes as Little Mac with 335 matches and 68 losses.
So I've only won about 82% of my matches! I've still got a ways to go!

Though if you'll let me make some excuses I'd say the bulk of my losses actually comes from a friend of mine who is currently looking to be the best Villager player in the world. She's figured out stuff with the character I've yet to see anyone replicate in American or Japanese tournaments.

But yeah thanks for checking out my video! If there's anything else you'd like to see from me just let me know! And also I'd love to see a vid from you as well! 100-5 is a pretty great record!

Is he a known player?
I'm not a known player. I've been picking up a lot of interest since Smash 4 as I've been alongside everyone else figuring out the games mechanics and figuring out match ups for characters, especially Little Mac.

The shulk called me out saying he was gonna expose me cause he thought little mac was fraudulent. He was actually a really good brawl player... Idk I think shulk is just an awful character, TBH I thought he was good for a shulk lol.

Yeah the yoshi was great. He won the first tournament in his region so I thought I'd record some matches of us playing.

Here are some matches from a recent tourney I played in, there were at least 2 other Little Mac's on the tourney stream and I play against one of them in the losers finals so some dittos which I haven't seen much yet.

My first game Winners Quarterfinals I think

Winners Semi-Finals: CIN v Spade

Losers Top 8: PAUL v Ty!

Winners Finals: WILL v CIN

Losers Quarter-Finals: PAUL v Jarrett

Losers Top 8: TDB v Bob

Losers Quarter-Finals: TDB v Spade

Losers Semi-Finals: PAUL v Spade

Losers Finals: PAUL v CIN

Grand Finals: CIN v WILL

Would love any critique people want to give.

Just watched your GF set with WILL (does he realize he's stealing a name?)

One MAJOR thing you don't do is counter. You'd just come back to the stage every time and I'd hold my head in frustration as you eat a completely telegraphed ftilt, fsmash, dtilt etc. Counter that stuff man!

Ya, it was really unreliable for me in online play because of latency so I didn't practice it enough. Since then I've worked on it a good bit, definitely the biggest thing I needed to improve on.

**Edit** And his tag is actually Will_, but he wasn't using that on his 3ds so I put it in like he had it.

Would love any critique people want to give.
In the matches against Diddy:

Really poor spacing on your side smashes and forward tilts. You completely whiff these attacks and step past your opponent a lot. You can't use these attacks when standing next to your opponent.
Really good item catching with your dash attacks love that.
Honestly this Diddy Kong could have beaten you pretty easily if he would jump off stage more often to edge guard you. But he usually just let you return to the stage.

Againt Pikachu:

This player goes off stage to gimp you more and juggles you a lot. Your whiffed attacks really hurt you here. As someone else mentioned you need to counter more.
There are a lot of times Pikachu approaches use with fAirs and you just kinda let them hit you. Why not side smash those for free damage?
Also you jab in place a lot. Why? Doesn't seem to do much. Oh and when you do hit your multi-hit jabs you don't go into your finisher fast enough. Pikachu punishes you for this.
You whiff a lot of attacks in this match-up because Pikachu is too short. You need to down-tilt and down-smash more in these situations.
Oh and your up tilts are amazing. You cover yourself really well with these. Keep it up.

Against DK:

You have got to respect the great ape's range. You run into a lot of his attacks for free. Also you need to remember that DK has super armor during his Spinning Kong attack. DK destroys you by gimping. Gotta work on that counter.

Against Little Mac:

Those were some matches alright. I felt you whiffed a few less moves than the other guy. Pretty bad overall though. Same mistakes as other matches carry on here.

Overall:

Really gotta work on your spacing. You get punished for whiffing attacks a lot. You use down-tilted side smashes multiple times where a normal or up-tilted side smash would of gotten the KO. I'm guessing these failed KOs are input errors?
You don't punish ledge regrabs. Ledge regrabs have no invincibility. Don't let people do this. Get those free down smashes.

When your opponent is above Little Mac you tend to go for an up smash even if they are far too high in the air to hit. Why?
You should be moving towards where you think your opponent will be landing and punishing that. There's no reason to just swing at the air.

You have terrible edge guarding. Almost every time your opponent is hanging from the ledge you go for a side smash. Your opponents generally jump over you or roll behind you. Mix up your arsenal with Rising Uppercuts, down smashes, or at least try to forward tilt their rolls.

The thing you need to work on the most is your recovering. You have a high propensity to recover high. When knocked off stage you'll usually go straight for your mid-air jump and go into your Jolt Haymaker. This is really gimpable and even when you aren't gimped you tend to land on stage and get punished during your landing lag.
Stall your jumps, time your Jolt Haymakers better.

Very thorough and accurate critique! I greatly appreciate you taking the time to break down each match with points I can improve on. This tourney took place 2 days after release and as you said my spacing is very poor as well as my recovery and input errors. I've watched a lot more high level Lil Mac play and found adopting the dash in roll out approach has helped my spacing very noticeably. That combined with the counters in place of poor side B recovery has made me feel a lot more confident in most matchups.

Basically before the tourney I had only practiced in for glory 1v1 where counter can be more unreliable due to latency, and not having experience with it hurt me a lot.

Thank you again for the good analysis.

Saw this tournament footage and wanted to share it with you guys, really like sodrek's little mac, different than Bwett's.

Ok I guess I can't post links until I get 10 posts.....if you search "Sodrek little mac" on you tube it should show his 3 matches

and one of his matches is mispelled so you have to search "Sodrek little max" to find it, if someone else could link them that would be great!

He seems okay. That Zero Suit Samus kept using aerials against Little Mac while he was shielded with KO Punch... you can't miss that. I don't really like his up tilts too much. He uses them a lot, but doesn't get much after out of it and consistently loses momentum. I liked his aerials. He goes for them a bit too much in my opinion, but still managed to land a few of them because the opponent just doesn't see it coming. So that was good stuff.

He has really good spacing and great awareness of where exactly his opponent will be after landing a hit. His reads aren't the best, but he rarely throws out anything too slow and so he slowly wins his matches with superior spacing.

All this said, I never really saw his opponents playing to Little Mac's weaknesses. They seemed A-OK with fighting mid-stage rather than at one of the sides where they'd have a better chance to throw him off stage.

tbh I think little mac WANTS his opponent to be at the edge of the stage. While it is dangerous for LM to approach an opponent there, with perfect spacing it's safe and the opponents options are soooo limited there that it's a hayday for LM. I think playing in the middle of the stage, or, if stage permitted, up and around the platforms is the best bet.
