Ok so , I am a avid fan of all fighting games.

I used to play Smash Bros on N64 all the time.

And I was completely out of the loop far as GameCube titles are concerned

But I find it so interesting that people are still playing this game and in great numbers.

I wanted to know just how exactly do I start to play catch up?

Sadly I have no close friends in which to train or study the game with and my knowledge is that the only way to play online is by downloading some sort of Dolphin software or something.

But I really just want to play on the GC and start to understand this game.

Any advice?

First of all, you should totally master all of these techniques. These are all doable by yourself! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4n4s5yB7ZkE

After you've got all of that down, go to the Regional Zones forum and look for a scene near you. Hopefully you are near other players; if not, you may have to do a bit of traveling!

Should defiantly learn the techniques first then learn characters. All the techniques can be done with all the characters cept for certain things (Shine, float cancel, etc..). You can find your character the same time you get these techs down or you may switch at any point but wavedashing, L-canceling etc. So yeah practice with characters you like but get the Tech Down
