I don't really know where to start with this. I just want to open a discussion of what people would want/expect from a game like this. Roster, gameplay, developer, everything. I have an idea of what I would want but it's hard to put on the necessary creative limits for a project like this. It would need a wide variety of characters from teams on all sides, with no one group or character overwhelming the other (Also, aside from villains, I don't treat the Avengers as Avengers characters, I treat them like Iron Man characters and Hulk characters etc etc. That's different from the X-Men). It would probably be a big roster too. I think it would need to set the world record for largest fighting game roster. Which would mean beating out MvC2, maybe even Smash Ultimate. Gameplay would probably be some sort of mix of MvC and Injustice....
What do you guys think? Throw out your ideas and let's build a game!
Here's my take. 11v11
DC: Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Flash, Aquaman, Blue Beetle/Jaime Reyes, Shazam, Green Lantern, Lex Luthor, Red Tornado and The Spectre
Marvel: Iron Man, Captain America, Spiderman, Magneto, Ultron, Captain Marvel, Thor, Hulk, Ghost Rider, Cloak and Dagger (tag team) and Storm
Gameplay wise it's basically Power Rangers Battle For The Grid. That means Mahvel style gameplay and you can tag in to characters who are already doing assists to extend combos/put out pressure

What do you guys think of bringing in the Injustice concept of Premier Skins (alt. Costumes which change one character into another. For example changing Flash to Reverse Flash (voice included)). That way we can include characters like Quicksilver, Sentry, Hawkeye, and Dr. Fate without making the roster full of “echo fighters”

Susan Storm, Mr.Fantastic and the Thing on their own have potential for a cool moveset.
Only Johnny Storm would have some trouble, but maybe they could make him work similar to Firestorm in Injustice 2.Dr.Doom is a must have too, if I am honest.
Regarding DC, Superman and Green Lantern are the ones who I want the most alongside their respective nemesis (Siniestro and Lex Luthor).

Honestly I think it’s the best way to do them justice, while keeping the roster more slim. I have similar ideas for other characters to.
For example, Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch being a tag team fighter (or Cloak and Dagger if Pietro is a Flash premiere skin).
And Ant-Man and The Wasp functioning as a single unit. Let me walk you through a basic combo. You punch with Ant-Man, and then the immediate normal follow up would be a dive bomb from wasp while he shrinks. Wasp then grows and dives back while firing lasers. Ant-Man does a growing uppercut before a shrunken wasp flies at them again. Imagine all of that, really quickly. Ant-Man and The Wasp would do stuff like that.
Alright, after much deliberation I came up with a roster. It's really big, but its also a "post-DLC' roster. I don't know how much of it would be DLC, but just know a certain percentage would be.

Roster looking REALLY awesome.
Although I find your lack of Vandal Savage disturbing.
Furthermore, I think Aqualad is a worthy inclusion as well.
I've been thinking about what to do with more Psychic characters. Injustice 2 did it really well with Scarecrow and you already included the Leader.
I Just want awesome characters like Killgrave, Ebony Maw, David Haller or Ahmal Farouk to have a place
Anyway, the concept I thought of was that of "Equivalent Fighters". No, that's not a fancy word for Echo.
What I wanted to do is order the roster in "Archetypes" and have every archetype contain a handfull of Equivalent Fighters. Everyone within a certain archetype has the same distinct playstyle, but their movement, hitboxes and actual moves can vary, some more than others.
For example, Everyone in the "Speedster" archetype would have the same input for a unique "Rush attack", but every EqF in the archetype has their own Rush attack.
So characters within the same archetype are not clones, but do borrow assets and playstyle. The characters between brackets lean more towards Echoes.
This way, we can have a larger roster!

That’s more of an RPG class system than a fighting game roster system. It sounds like it would work, but it really wouldn’t if put into practice. It’s the animations that matter. Not the inputs. Like, you basically simplified the second easiest part to design while super charging the complicated parts.

I think I’m gonna replace Taskmaster with him then.

I mean, mine is 80 characters post dlc. A “reasonable” cast size is difficult to ascertain. It’s why I think we should just go for broke and make it the biggest roster ever put in a fighting game.

Maybe later tonight I'll make an overview with all the characters we all named in different versions of the roster so we can compare which characters are "essential", which are good to have and which are redundant.
It also depends heavily on how well you know the character, off course. Some might say Flash and Reverse Flash should be echoes while others may argue the Reverse Flash does way more creative things with his speedforce powers (because he, unlike Barry, is cruel and wants to actually harm people, so he experiments).

Deadpool
Hela (would be awesome if based on the movie to summon swords and daggers everywhere)
Klaue (The sonic gun is cool and he is the most iconic Black Panther villain, but that's about it)
Kingpin (One of the best cannon MCU characters, gigantic grappler dude)
Killgrave (Amazing character but mind-controll is hard to do)
David Haller (I need the Legion show to be represented but David, the main character, is practically omnipotent)
Rocket Racoon (Just read the pairing with Groot thing and I want this now!)
Juggernaut (He's not the most notable character and there are plenty of big dudes already)
Pheonix (Cosmic fire being. Although cool, would feel a lot like Firestorm or Captain Marvel)
Korvac (Supposed to be super overpowered, right?)
Dormammu (Doesn't really have a physical forme)
Black Bolt (Very difficult to make a moveset, but maybe that's just my lack of creativity)
Ghost Rider (A bit out of place, but actually a really good pick)
The Leader (Mind control powers)
Cyclops (Only shoots lazers, right?)
Cloak and Dagger (Don't know the characters too well)
Sabertooth (Wolverine clone)
Killmonger (Black Panther clone)
John-Rogg (Was he that interesting?)
Whirlwind (Subpar Red Tornado)
Luke Cage (Amazing character but just a punch-kick guy)
Abomination (Literally a Hulk clone, but the most iconic Hulk villain by far)
Quicksilver (Speedsters are hard to differentiate)
Hawkeye (He's an avenger, come on man!)
Taskmaster (Awesome character, but maybe too obscure)
Eclipse (Shoots light from his hands and is very skilled at using that in various ways. Very obscure but a good way to rep The Gifted)
Punisher (deadpool does a lot of what he does, but the punisher is somehow even more agressive)
Ebony Maw (I just really like the character, okay!)
Ahmal Farouk (See David Haller, he's basically a more charismatic version of him)
DC
Superman
Lex Luthor
Wonderwoman
Aquaman
Black Manta
Martian Manhunter
Shazam
Blue Beetle
Cyborg
Brainiac
Batman
Joker
The Flash
Gorilla Grodd
Hawkgirl
Green Lantern
John Constantine
Green Arrow
Darkseid
Firestorm
Aqualad
Black Beetle (I just love the character)
Black Lightning (He's been getting a lot more attention recently)
Tobias Whale (Black Lightnings main antagonist. Pretty much Kingpin with a harpoon gun)
Reverse Flash (We discussed this)
Vandal Savage (Extremely Iconic villain, but what could his moveset be?)
Rorshach (I want the watchmen rep, but this would be a batman clone)
Dr. Manhattan (Literally omnipotent)
Vixen (Would have a very cool and unique fighting style. She was done dirty as a cheetah alt)
Beastboy (Would transform into different animals mid-battle. That would be super dope)
Negative Man (His power basically involves an energy being leaving his body to fight, leaving the actual body vulnerable and unable to move. I would love to see that as a moveset)
Mr. Nobody (Literally omnipotent)
Red Tornado (Extremely iconic JSA character. How did you miss him?)
Etrigan (Very cool but kinda obscure)
Deathstroke (Deadpool clone?)
Raven (Whole bunch o' magic characters)
Zatanna (Whole bunch o' magic characters)
Circe (Whole bunch o' magic characters)
Dr. Fate (Whole bunch o' magic characters)
Black Canary (I'm... just not a huge fan)
Bane (See Luke Cage)
Doomsday (Hulk Clone?)
Nightwing (Batman clone?)
Black Adam (Shazam clone?)
Starfire (Firestorm clone?)
Static (I like him, but not without Black Lightning!)
Spartan (Litterally don't know the character)
Lobo (Not a huge fan)
Harley Quin (Not a huge fan)
Cheetah (Not a huge fan)
Terra (Mildly obscure)
Plastic Man (Would be epic but you already got Mr. Fantastic as part of fan4stic)
The Thinker (Base him on the Arrowverse Thinker with 12 different powers and the floating chair. It'll be good)
Mr. Terriffic (Very prominent character, and his T-spheres would make an amazing moveset)
Red Hood (Gun guy)
Captain Cold (Cool guy (pun intended))
Red Volcano (Very obscure, but very cool. My preferred earthbender)
Killer Frost (Not a huge fan but I like her creativity with ice more than most ice-based characters)
Malcolm Merlyn (Green Arrow clone, but John Barrowman would probably be down to voice him)
Sinestro (Another lantern. He'd have to be different!)
Atrocitus (Another lantern. He'd have to be different!)
John Stewart (Actually makes different types of constructs than Hal Jordan so he could be his own character)
Swamp Thing (Ivysaur intensifies)
Solomon Grundy (Tough guy mechanic ala Bowser? Cause he's a zombie and all)
Miss Martian (Manhunter clone)
Bizarro (You can do more than just reskin superman)
Honestly, if your definitely sections were the roster i’d Be fine (minus aqualad, swap him with Static). Still wish it were bigger but I can’t even complain about this one.
Also, look into Legion and how he works in the comics. The show is actually very different.

I'm aware that the show has very little to do with the comics, but I just want the show repped because it's ****ing amazing.
But what I'm hoping to achieve is to find a roster that everyone in this thread can agree upon (which means repping different teams, shows and eras as well as a even representation of DC/Marvel, good hero/villain balance and not too much overlap in types of powers, while also being able to plug my favourites...
Then comes the moveset making.
