Hungrybox Breaks Finger, Could Be Absent For Genesis

Earlier today top-level Melee player Juan "Hungrybox" Dibiedma announced on Twitter that he fractured his finger playing dodgeball. His doctor, he said, told him that it would be healed 'in a few weeks' - whether or not it will be fully healed by Genesis 4 is unknown. Genesis 4 is one of the most anticipated tournaments to start off the new year, and missing it - especially if you're a top player like Hbox - could mean starting off the year rocky.
However, Juan has a possible solution. If Smashbox, the Hitbox game-stick designed specifically for Melee, is legal for G4, he could theoretically remap his controls so that there is less strain on his broken finger. Only time will tell whether this idea is practical or not.

For more information regarding the matter, stay tuned on Smashboards.

I thought this was Comedy Corner for a few seconds.

LOL, we have a rare moment in which wncozens actually wrote an article that isn't just satire! I have nothing against Comedy Corner, but it seemed like that was all he was working on since it started...

How exactly will the smashbox help if he cant use his 2nd finger?

What a load of crap. As if he could re learn melee in just a few weeks anyway.

Way to put bs spin in an otherwise straightforward article.

Thats why the article clearly says its a possible solution. Many players have been able to adapt to the smashbox rather quickly. After only a couple of days esam was able to adapt to it and hes been playing smash for 10+ years.
However it seems most likely that hbox will sit this one out, even if he is healed on time he will be out of practice.

I'll be surprised if Hungrybox's broken finger survives through all of that stress from controller use at Genesis 4 (if he ever makes it there)...

Oh...Happy New Year Everyone! :estatic:

looks like his left from the fingernails, im no doctor though...
Pretty sure it's his right hand, as the left hand doesnt look like that sort of finger-shape when lying flat. That's gonna be a problem for right-shield and grabbing. BUT this doesnt exclude him entirely from Genesis, as it is still plausible to play like that.

In an interview he said he still thinks he should be able to attend. Especially with Genesis's lenient rules on custom controllers.
