The Evolution Championship Series, better known as EVO, returns to Las Vegas this weekend!

Starting on Friday, July 14, this well-established fighting game tournament takes place across three days of excitement. Nearly 7,000 players will be in attendance this year, each hoping to claim the #1 title in their respective games. Boasting nine official tournaments, with games such as Super Smash Bros Melee & Wii U, Street Fighter V, and Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3, 2017’s EVO is once again shaping up to be the premiere event for the FGC.

EVO 2017 will be held exclusively at the Mandalay Bay Hotel and Casino. However, the first two days’ matches will occur in the Mandalay Bay Convention Center, whereas the final day will be hosted in the 12,000 seat Mandalay Bay Event Center arena. Attendees and online viewers of EVO 2016 will be familiar with this massive arena.

Saturday will see the finals for four games:
    • Super Smash Bros. Melee
    • Guilty Gear Xrd Rev 2
    • Injustice 2
    • The King of Fighters XIV
Sunday’s finals will consist of the following five games:
    • Super Smash Bros. for Wii U
    • Blazblue: Central Fiction
    • Tekken 7
    • Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3
    • Street Fighter V
A full schedule can be seen below, alongside stream information.

EVO thinks Smash 4 deserves a Sunday spot over Melee LUL

Well lets make them see viewer statistics then! Lets show them how popular Melee is to make them see it is worthy, no offense to Smash 4 though Melee is just way better for competition.

Also thank god Melees on saturday so I can catch it then I dont think I would be able to catch it on this weeks sunday.

Melee has had double or triple Smash 4's viewers at 99% of tournaments. The exceptions are Canada Cup (where Smash 4 was before Street Fighter and had delays, thus most of the viewers were just waiting for SFV, so not relevant) and CEO (pretty much same story, Melee was on Saturday, Smash 4 was on Sunday right before SFV). So clearly either they really want to skew numbers in favor of Smash 4 by letting them get viewers off a much more successful game, or they don't care about viewership at all?

Idk, I don't even hate Smash 4, it just makes no sense that they get a better time slot when Melee consistently has 3x the viewership.
