How to Land Bowser jr final smash successfully?

I play online and even tho I dont select final smash rules on sometimes my opponent does
and I got this problem that sometimes the final smash lands correctly and in other
cases it hits like two times and the giant X disappears with minimun damage
apparently you cant control it any tips to land it as it should be???
