Who here has ever thought that message board discussions here - along with popular demand/reception of Melee - have influenced some of the decisions made by the creators of Brawl?

Frankly, this idea's been eating at me since the beginning, and I've always kept this in mind when making conjectures about characters/stages/movesets/etc.

I don't know how accurate this assumption would be, but just keep it in mind as you surf the boards today!:)

Total copies of Melee sold: 6 million +

We don't have a say at all, and they don't care.

The common sense that the other 5,920,000 people want an easier, more party-like game?

True. Thus, you have the multiplayer online, several co-op modes, and - (don't take my word for this) - slower gameplay.

(I wasn't at E for All, so I can't really confirm that last one)

But as a businessman, wouldn't Sakurai's goal be to keep the old fans as well as draw in new ones? Surely he'd like to make as few sacrifices as possible?

I like to think that Sakurai has a guy or two that peruse the big message boards to see what the fans want. That doesn't seem too farfetched.

This community makes up so much stuff that it has to collide with Sakurai somehow, and since you only notice the stuff that is being put in brawl, you don't notice all the stuff you've come up with that isn't in Brawl.

Therefor, no.

They did? So that's who to blame for the Pichu thing...
Most people on Nsider hated pichu and they only took suggestions for brawl not melee.

BUT... PICHU OWNS YOU I BET YOU SUPPORT FALCO PICHU FOR BRAWL BEST VIDEO GAME CHARACTER EVER I'M SERIOUS.

Hmm, well think of it a little bit... Why would he even think of Putting Stafy in Brawl in any way if it weren't for fans talking about it? I think he was listening earlier on, but because of the production he stopped. How can he put much more in Brawl? Lol, it's huge as it is.

I sometimes have the feeling at least SOMEone involved in Brawl's development is going through the boards here. Actually, the fact that the European (dunno if this also goes for US and JP) Nintendo Message boards have been closed down because there already were enough discussion boards out there makes me think that even more.

Think of it like this. You're creating a huge sequel, and you know there's a popular message board about the previous entries to the series. Wouldn't you at least want to see what the people had to say about your works? I know I would.

Hmmm....maybe someone from Nintendo has an account here, but I doubt it. They'd listen to us as a last resort.

I just think that Sakurai and the rest the people developing this game just take ideas from those Japanese forums.

True, but this is the largest Smash Bros. community there is. Where else could he go for ideas?
If he has to troll message boards to get new ideas, he's probably not that good of a job with his game.

Online communities all want to think they have some sort of influence, but I don't think that designers can legally take ideas, other than say, characters, from a Joe Schmo on the internet.

Have everyone already forgotten that the team making Brawl are hardcore Smashers themselves?

No, we do not influence the development of the game.

#1 just a meager fansite.
#2 a meager AMERICAN fansite at that.

Sakurai already solicited suggestions and ideas from the general public long ago, and I'm sure many members here sent in some of their input. Beyond that, I don't know that he's taking advice from us. Some stuff does seem fairly coincidental, but any content that's in Brawl that was suggested on these boards was probably also suggested when Sakurai was asking for public input.

Isnt this the biggest place to find the most (reasonable) posts about brawl? American, not Japanese.

If I was a programmer, I would definately be looking at these boards.

We (USA) are probably one of the particularly larger markets for this (or any) game, right?

Sesriously, we're the biggest smash bros. fansite ever. America=50% of Melee's sales, Japan=10% at best. Plus here on the boards we got tons of peopple from Australia, Europe, Canada, South America, Mexico, and so on. Hell, we even have people from Japan.

And Sakurai stole a lot of my Diddy Kong moveset ideas (except the final smash and nB). Darn you Sakurai! SKRAIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII!!!!!!!!!!!

Or mindgames. Or maybe they want Brawl hype dead in November and December. Brawl has barely any hype right now; IDC what you say=the hype is less then Duke Nukem Forever right now, and so says the gaming sites. In January-things will change. From late January to March, the gaming world will be consumed by Brawl, and swallowed WHOLE!

And besides-the SWF is the premieur tournament and competitive smash bros. site. It's where all the pros go-as well as tons of other casual and competitive players. If Nintendo doesn't know we exist, then why the f*** did Nintendo Power interview the Smashboards creator, Gideon once=??? See, I win!

@ axemangx
75 totally balanced characters in Brawl would be lamez!  ;)

Because Sakurai's a jerk :p

And Nintendo Power has no power to influence Brawl...
