No money camp isn't too bad if you're at least working.
college isn't too bad...

Priorities folks. Do you really need to eat "every" day? It sucks but..smash is calling me. Three square meals is a farce, once is enough, every other day... (i'm not lying to myself to make it better I swear...)

protip: Work in a restaurant that gives you a free meal. I chose buying this along with a switch with the game rather than eating for a month. The free meal helps immensely. Loans be damned, they'll get that money eventually e- e

Well I am not that much into NOT eating lol. In the supermarket I work at, I can grab food and drinks for free, so it's similar to your situation, although restaurant food sure is more healthy/better, than supermarket pre-cooked food ^^

Why have three square meals when you can have one square enix?

I'm waiting for two reasons. One, Pirahna Plant is setting up expectations whether it's accurate or not. It's essentially the first DLC fighter even if it's free, so if the pack is going to include other minor characters I would rather not spend money on them. Second, with Smash 4, I never ended up buying Corrin and Bayonetta because they did nothing for me. It's likely not all the characters in the DLC pack will appeal to everyone, so I may just buy the ones I like instead of all at once. Hopefully whenever the first fighter becomes available they'll announce who the others are as well.

I purchased the pass. I like having more choices and Sakurai has repeatedly taken characters I didn't care for and made them into fun additions. Plus just because I don't like a character doesn't mean why friends won't. I still have my hopes, but just the idea of getting more characters and stages is good enough for me.

I haven’t gotten yet. Waiting to see who this supposed Square Character is first. I’m worried about Nintendo’s selections. On the other hand, if they add Geno then I won’t care if the other 4 are Fire Emblem characters haha

I took everyone’s advice: don’t like, don’t buy. Wish granted guys. I’m not exactly chomping at the bit to spend $25 on parts of a game when Neo-Geo games cost $8-15 on the same system.

What's wrong with corrin and bayo?
Corrin was a character no one wanted and mainly just promotional.
As for Bayo, short story, I personally hate her games because they contain everything I don't like.

So any characters that are just promotional or from games I really don't like would likely turn me off from buying the entire dlc pass

I will buy it as soon as I get the game (likely) on Xmas. I have a bunch of eShop funds stored up.

Just wishing that Nintendo would make the Pass bundle available for the physical buyers. Because as of right now you have to buy all 5 pieces separately unless you get the digital Game + Pass bundled together.

I bought it right away. Smash bros is the only game series that I can say I can play anyday for hours at a time without getting bored. I plan on playing this almost every free day (as in when I actually have the time to play video games) for years to come so I plan to get all DLC released besides cosmetic ones and I'd also skip spirits DLC if they ever think that packaging some extra spirits in a DLC pack is a good idea.

I have not yet. Really waiting on some announcements. Right now theres no incentive other than "I want a complete game" or "I trust them implicitly."

I'm a big fan of voting with my money, if its all "here are new games coming out and the main characters are smash DLC" types of promotions, then I'm abstaining.

BUT if Banjo is a character then I'm buying them all out of joy. Or Doomguy, that would be amazing just for the music.

Gonna wait to buy each fighter I want separately, I know full well that not every character in the fighter pass is gonna be one I want. the only DLC I got back during Smash 4 was Mewtwo and the Geno Mii Outfit. possibly because I was a somewhat closed-minded kid yes, but I like alot of things now, and to this day I don't see the appeal in characters like blonde-haired anime dude with a big sword and sexy witch who is basically Brawl Meta Knight 2.0.

EDIT: Forgot I'm the type of person who votes with her money too. (well I'm not legally an adult so my folks' money but you get the point) I've refrained myself from getting Pokemon Let's Go for this exact reason. (I'm not a fan of extremely causal games with no sense of reward, genwunner marketing, or Mew basically being locked behind a paywall)

I hope the amount of people who do buy it around the world make it known to nintendo that there is real profit in supporting the game with future dlc.
I would be perfectly happy if this was the final smash (lol) if it meant consistent updates and support.

how can anyone stand playing the game and knowing it's not complete
because of the way budgets work.

When a company makes a budget for a game, they are taking into account how much money they can recoup from said game. Smash sells very well, but that doesn't mean you can just make something for penny's and keep margins high. In order to keep a consistency in sales you have to hire and pay a team, who is probably contracted for a pretty high cost. So the $60 dollars you're going to pay for this game, is built to bring profit and ROI to whatever budget was allocated up to that point. Keep in mind, almost every project on earth from a company is usually behind schedule due to the nature of people and how big companies work.

The DLC you're paying 25 dollars for, has it's own ROI expected. So essentially, the 60 initial dollars you were going to pay for the game? wouldn't cover the cost for the resources needed to create the DLC(At least for Nintendo's intended projects, margins, and initial ROI)

That is how almost all budgeting for major content works in most businesses. Many people use the car theory to justify how DLC is evil. You're buying a car but they'll sell you window wipers separate or something.

For EA that may be partially true, but for most developers the metaphor's pretty poor. A more accurate one: You can buy a car, but the suped up on star device which tracks your car and has anti theft services and all that costs extra. Because that requires a whole bunch of other money to operate properly.

Hope this doesn't come off dickish, I mean it with all due respect. it's just the way things work in the development of all things-- and the DLC being free would mean designers and programmers would get underpaid for the amount of work involved and less polish-- or Nintendo would not meet their sales targets for the money they gave and would thus have their stock drop. They have projections and have based the timeline and money involved on those projections. Even their marketing and the money they're putting into it is based on it. Even having Smash as a powerful IP, nothing is EVER a sure thing when you're the one all the responsibility is falling on. I've run my own business for a while and done work for a lot of major brands and you'd be surprised at how complicated things get when it's YOUR finger on the button. Hope this makes sense!

I do not like the practice of selling a product without any details. I'll likely get the fighter pass after I know what is included, but I will not buy a blank slate.

sorry I worded that bad, I agree with the above I just wondering how someone could play the game, knowing they dont have the full content by not getting the dlc.

I'm still waiting for my game to be delivered. I can't get the fighter pass without buying the digital bundle and I'm getting my physical copy.

I am in on the fighter pass. The new stages were more of a draw than whoever the characters are. I hope they are at least decently requested characters.

I was very pleased with the Smash 4 DLC so I went for the Digital Bundle (Game + Pass).
Even if *I* don't like every Character that Nintendo has to offer, some of my friends would much likely like them. Take Ryu for example - I love Street Fighter, Ryu is my main in that series, but didn't realy play with him in Smash because I did not like the way he played there (e.g. optional inputs for stronger attacks don't feel "right" in smash). My friend, who is a competitive Street Fighter player since third Strike, was very pleased with the way he played. And he doesn't even like Smash that much.

I haven't yet because I plan on getting the game physically, but I absolutely WILL buy it as soon as I get the game. Or at least.. after I had a couple hours of fun with the game first.

Does anyone have an idea if the fighters pass will work for all accounts on a particular switch? I believe it did for smash 4's DLC but I haven't heard anything yet about this time

I will buy all of them, even for characters I don't like, but I can't spend so much more money in one time now, so I will buy them individually.
I just hope to see more cartoon characters, and less sword fighters.

This reminds me of my college days. I also worked at a restaurant, two actually, and I got a free lunch and dinner almost every day. I was living on the edge back then with almost no money but that helped me get through.

Well, at least now that the game is out, the physical players can actually vote on the poll above! And yep, I've bought it and redeemed the Piranha Plant code. And I unlocked the whole base roster. I only have 24 characters in World of Light, but I don't think the DLC would be playable in World of Light. But the main game, I'm ready to use anyone I want. Can't wait for Piranha Plant, Joker, and whoever the other four characters are.

I bought it almost immediately. To be honest I tend to main a few characters but I really like playing the game with many different characters, figuring out good counter picks to characters, etc when playing with my friends. Because of that I get really excited when they add any new characters into the game, because I love knowing how everyone works and what their strengths/weaknesses are. So, I will try out the DLC characters no matter who they decide to add.

I got 15% off eShop gift cards to pay for the full game and fighters pass digitally. It was a good deal. But then they announced Joker, a character I have positively zero interest in ever playing, and suddenly I feel like I shouldn't have jumped the gun.

it's just one character and who knows he might be interesting, I know nothing about him as well but I am going to fix that by playing me some p5 soon. I don't know how many good series I played due to not knowing a character when they were first reveled

Well, whoever the other four characters are, I can't wait to find out. I hope one of them could be Goku just so that we can put a stop to the whole "video game character" argument.
