Ok well, I've been anticipating Brawl for some time, even going as far as trying to get a Wii just to play this game, I had this recent chat with someone. Well anyways, I was just wondering how do you actually deal with people like this? Anyways, here's the chat, I'd like your thoughts on this.

Me: since i'll be playing solo
Other Guy: despite it being obvious
Other Guy: lol, you defintely are not gonna enjoy the game as it should be
Me: well, thats what online is for
Me: so i dont play alone
Other guy: unless they were to announce online co op
Other guy: the pros are too brutal
Me: eh thats ok
Other guy: co op is the best play to play with others
Me: hm
Me: pros aren't that brutal
Me: they're not like "**** u suck!"
Other guy: but they take the fun out of the game
Me: uhh
Me: ok, well.. i'll put it like this
Me: there's no wrong way to play smash
Other guy: that's why i prefer to play *some other guy*
Other guy: than you
Me:: as long as you enjoy it, you play
Other guy: but anyway
Other guy: i g2g
Me: there's no wrong way to play smash
Me: k
Me: cya
Other guy: lol no wrong way, but there are better ways

dunno just ignore him. what a stupid statement to say "pros take the fun out of games". It's not like out of the millions of people playing smash online all of them will be pros. You will maybe come across a pro once every 10 matches or so.

and besides, it's called practicing. it helps. That's like saying too many pros play halo 3 online so don't play online. What kind of argument is that?

Even if it is an opinion, it's not very well thought out.

That's sick. And in the bad way. There is no wrong way to play Brawl. He just throws out everything you say and has nothing to back up his opinion. Btw Boofer, have I been ignorant to you on Conspiracy Theoracy thread?

How would you say he has no friends?
I think since he said he wanted to play alone. But that has nothing to do with having no friends.

Sometimes what If I want to play alone and not with someone all the time. that doesn't mean I dont have friend...it just means I dont feel like playing with them.

Corax the cold, that was not needed.

Tell the guy that skills and tactics are like a computer. Some people will buy their computer, find out that they like online gaming, then decide they want to hear the footsteps better, so he buys an expensive headset. Then he decides that his framerate is too low, so he buys more RAM. Then he decides that he wants better graphics so he can more easily see who is and who isn't on his team, so he buys a new graphics card.

Another person buys his computer. He doesn't mind the graphics, framerate, or sound. He never plays with people who talk with their headsets (or they don't have headsets) so he doesn't know how useful this feature can be. He doesn't know how simple or difficult upgrading a computer can be, and he doesn't care. He does relatively well on the servers he plays on, and that's good enough for him. He bought the game, and likes to play casually.

The first player is a competitive player. They (generally) didn't buy their first Smash game and decide instantly they wanted to play in tournaments, but they gradually grew better and better. Money represents time, and upgrades represent tactics (Wavedashing, L cancelling, teching, etc.). You must learn these tactics, and spend the time to properly use them before you can best incorporate them into your game.

In other words, pro's are (were) just like casuals, but they gradually added tactics to their game, which made them siginifcantly better than those who didn't.

Once every ten matches? Try once in a hundred thousand matches. Pros won't be playing on "with everyone"

Quick question about the online: "With Anyone" will just put you in a random match with 4 people, correct?

Says who Xan? There are no "Pros" for Brawl, everyone's going to be new to Brawl. Play the way you want and just ignore the people who say you're doing it wrong, because there's no wrong way to play Brawl.

Yes.

And by "once every 10 matches" I meant when brawl is around a year old and every has gotten time to be good. But then again, I have no idea of how many will be playing "with anyone". I will probably just to play anonymous sometimes and not worry about reputation and what not.

Well aside from that other guy just being a jerk. Playing with one other person over and over again gets boring and repetitive, offline.

Just suck it up and smile on the inside knowing you will be fighting those pros alone and learning to play better using your own skill while he relies on a partner to make him worthwhile.

And if he brings it up again, show him the Wifi Upates where it shows Basic Brawl (FFA) and Team Battle. Right now we are all speculating that Basic brawl can not be accessed with multiple people on one Wii, but instead Four Players, four separate Wii's. Unless your in a Team Battle, it is unlikely two people with a huge gap in skill over you will enter the match looking to gang up.

its not like playing online will make you pro, i bet ill find myself saying "whoa how'd he do that??" a lot of times. and you will still get bunched up with random noobs of course. I bet a lot of the pro players will do play with anyone cause of the sheer pwnage that they can do. but that doesnt really mean you can learn how to play by playing against them, especially if they use advanced techniques that you dont know how to do.

Well if they were serious about beating pro's they should of been looked online on advance tech tutorials.

But..What if there are NO advance techs in brawl..?? :(

If you think about it, N64 didn't really have any advance techs, aside from maybe Z canceling..and nobody still hasn't found an exploitable tech for it yet either, regardless of it being online.

Who cares what some random person thinks i mean is this really needed, this thread....there are tons of people out there who think this way, let them think that, or tell them what you think, but no need to make a thread about a conversation you had wiht some guy.

Ignore ignorant people. Some say that pros but on that ignorant mindset but that's all garbage. You're allowed to play however you want, as Sakurai and Nintendo intended the game to be.

As for Brawl, yes, everyone will be new to Brawl so don't worry about playing a pro when you get the game. Buy the game and have fun, ya?

How would I deal with someone like that?

Well, here's a question: why am I even talking to someone like that in the first place? And if that couldn't be helped, I'd never talk to the likes of that moron again.

@Corax the Cold: **** that was cold.. lol pun intended. You do realize that only two of my friends play smash <.< while my other friends either play something else or just aren't into video games which is fine. Just because one person hates to play smash with me, doesn't automatically ostracize me.

On a side note though, his whole argument about pros being brutal isn't exactly true, because we both went to a tourney with some really notable people (Mango, DSF, Hugs, Gimpyfish). They were actually really nice to me, including nealdt, while he always criticizes how I play like.. "**** u suck" or "you're too good (sarcastically)"

I consider myself a pretty good Smash player and I do admit that when I play with my friends I take all the fun out of it because I'm a lot better than they are. So yes, highly skilled players do take the fun out of the game for lowly skilled players. I agree with that wholeheartedly.

The guy wasn't wrong at all. In fact, from personal experience, I am on his side.

Not permanently. You know, you can get better at the game. But you never choose to try and get better, then it just illustrates you really aren't concerned your friend wins or not, thus not really taking the fun anyway.

I find objectionable on the what's fun. You don't know how they could be feeling. Who knows, Maybe they like seeing someone using awesome skills on them and losing honorably. Or even so, They could like challenging someone better then them because it's fun.

Who are you to say "you definitely are not gonna enjoy the game as it should be". There are MANY things you can do and not always face a pro.
1. SSE
2. Co-op
3. Event Co-Op
4. Co-op Team battle
5. Online ( Many newbies)

All these are available to people who aren't a professionally good. I personally like challenging someone who is better then me, just to see how much I can get owned and practice to become like that one day.

The guy wasn't wrong at all
In my opinion, someone who has no idea what fun is, someone who judges you on what fun is, someone who judges you based on your skills and can't even back up his opinions isn't right in any shape or form.

If you think you are good and think Pros take all the fun out of the game, then I guess you really shouldn;t call yourself good until you stop letting them take over your game. If it was that important do something about it. It isn't impossible if you are determined to reclaim your dignity, and it sure as hell shouldn't stop you from having fun.

Being conceited and believing you'll never get better will do exactly what it says.

Actually quite a bit of them are like that and aren't humble in the least bit. Either way, that kid is being ignorant. Play the game and and enjoy it for what it is. The competitive online scene isn't something to fear.
