How do you create your own texture in melee?

I know how to change textures if I already have a custom skin for a character but I don't really know how to make a custom skin for a character. Specifically, I am trying to mod Yoshi. I have DAT Texture thingy but I can't really do anything with it. Can someone please tell me how you created a texture of your own?

I've streamed myself quite a bit using the dat texture wizard:

You need to export the textures then use a program that can edit the image such as photoshop, gimp, corel, etc.

If you want more advanced info on what to do look at sticky threads on the top of the texture subforum for the workshop and the main workshop melee hackers and you thread.
