How do I git gud with Spacie Up+B on a GCC

The GCC's octagon makes precision aiming seem near impossible to pull off compared to the DualShock 4 I used to rock. Even doing something as simple as edge running is significantly harder. So is there a way to easily hone these skills? Precision with a GCC in general? Or is it just "keep doing it until you get better somehow with something made so that you'll be restricted to eight measly directions most of the time"
