Skull Girls is extremely dead. The only chance it had to shine was EVO 2013, with the donation competition for a spot in EVO, but Smash won. It's a solid game, but it never had the hard following as the other fighters.

You won't find a scene anywhere here. There may be a few interested people here and there, but it's practically dead. If you're really serious about another fighting game, SF or UMvC3 are the best. Melee or P:M if Smash.

What about Persona 4 or King of Fighters?
Also, I already planned to pick up UMvC3, Mortal Kombat and possibly Guilty Gear.

Everything you listed is pretty much niche fighters except UMvC3 and maybe MK and KoF. KoF is probably the git gud game out of all of them.

I heard Killer Instinct had a good size community in Texas. Dont know Houston specifically. SF and Vergil Vs Vergil 3 fate of 2 Morrigans are your best bets for active community especially with SF5 coming out soon.

kadin is the greatest monster hunter player alive i've never seen more determination in my life
if the 3DS is in my room it's pretty much a sure sign he's either:

1) in the shower (he literally ****s and pee pees while playing monster hunter)
2) at work
3) asleep (he sleeps w/ monster hunter though so this is iffy)

his character's armor changes colors before your eyes like wtffff, hello???? 911??

Melee is still big in houston. brawl... not sure. probably somewhere in centerville.
