Firing squad is actually legal in some states still.

Pretty sure this is also a legal penalty for treason. The concept is basically the same as a more painful lethal injection. If everyone does their job correctly, no one knows who fired the lethal shot.

I would assume it varies by what governing body is performing the action, but I very much doubt only one person ever had live rounds, because there is no surefire 1 shot, 1 kill situation. Either way, firing squad is basically a painful lethal injection.

So the skinny is that only Oklahoma and the military can really do it anymore, and in Oklahoma you pretty much have to request it.
