"A story is a series of memories. Memories are remembered with other memories, and in turn become memories themselves. If you don't take care to preserve your memories, you'll forget them. So, please tell us frogs your memories of everything so far... That is what people refer to as "saving". Now, then... *hop* Save your game?"
WELCOME!

This thread is being made to serve the Lucas community in several ways:

First, it's designed to share results, videos and ideas for the betterment of other Lucas players and for the advancement of our mutual meta. This thread should serve as a pretty central hub for competitive Lucas mains who want to keep up to date with other competitive Lucas mains, observe tech or playstyle and talk about recent results.

Second of all, I think it's good to separate video threads and tournament hype stuff. The video thread gets cluttered with "can you help me improve" + "check out this new tech" + "look at how I did in tournament! / look how THIS person did in tournament!" + "What the heck is going on here???" and topics of discussion relevant to all those points. This thread would take most of the competitive vids and discussion from that thread allowing ease of browsing for what you want.

Finally it's a hub for non-competitive players to see what the tournament scene is like and to interact with its players. At the end of the day, we're all Lucas mains, we all enjoy seeing each other improve. If you see results here, it might inspire you to go to a tournament yourself, or play with some regular tourney-goers. If that happens, then great!

This thread shouldn't be mistaken for a social. After all, our other threads need purpose! And it's best not to clutter this thread up for ease of use. Questions about tournaments or results posted by other users here can and should go here, and discussion of said tournaments. But most questions, such as those of a technical / "meta" nature should go in the Q&A thread and most of our tournament hype should still go in the social. This thread is just a resource that you should be able to use.

That being said, feel free to congratulate people on their results here! It's a good feeling and those people probably deserve it!

SO, now what?

So we've established this thread is about forming a record of Lucas' tournament results. The idea is to post your results here and they'll be added to the OP (this should be done periodically). Results should be posted in the format shown below:

2nd out of 52 / Smash City 4 / Mar 3, 2016 / Gamebros Arcade, Sydney, Australia

That's: Placing out of x / name of tournament / date / location

Below that, you can place a few extra things if you can / wish:

"Any other characters used? - :4ness: :4duckhunt: :4bowserjr:" (If you can, explain where any extra characters were used in bracket)

You can also link to the thread where the tournament was announced / results were posted, and you can provide a link to any videos or streams of the tournament (especially ones with you in them!) in question.

Finally, feel free to talk about your tournament experience here! Talk about what happened in bracket, and those hype matches with that one MK main, or how you came so close to losing a set to Witch Time but the bayo JUUUST clanked her Usmash with the second hit of your Dair.... etc. It's always fun to hear these reflections. Did you do as well as you thought you would? Are you wanting to go back and do better next time?

I'd also just like to stress, the example result I posted is a pretty nice result, but don't stress if your results aren't like that. It's fine if your result is 13th / 52, or even 52nd / 52 !! It's all about getting better, and that starts with a dedicated player who can put themselves out there even if it means they're going to have to learn from mistakes.

That being said, there are a FEW posting criterias:

Results of any kind are awesome, but htis thread in particular is going to be focusing on results that meet these criteria, in order to promote it is being a valuable tool for a relevant meta game. Try to post results that meet with the following:

Singles 1v1 and / or doubles 2v2
Should have 8 or more players
An entree fee of at least $1 (or one shekel or one yen, etc)
The cash pot of this tournament is split amongst the top players
Has a competitive ruleset (A questionable stage list is fine, after all our scenes are still experimenting with stuff. If it feels mostly standardised to other tournaments you've seen it's probably fine)

It's OK if your tournament doesn't meet these criteria. You can still post it! It just won't be added to the OP.

... Speaking of which!

When a result is posted in this thread, I'll add it to the OP. The OP will divide its results first based off area, then off individual players. Your results will be kept here indefinitely (or until Smashboards comes crashing down fatally one day, but we hope that won't happen), so you can come back and reflect on your tournament journey at any time!

I might post this result in full seeing as I'm here and it's a good example:

1st out of 40 / Smashing Good Time S2 E4 / 7-2-2016 / UTS, Sydney, Australia

Any other characters used? - :4ness:

http://qldsmash.com/Results/NSW?t=Smashing Good Time S2 E4

I actually used Ness and Lucas as near co-mains this tournament. Although my controller was screwing me over and my opponents were being really nice about it, I'm really happy that they both came in handy. Lucas took me through GFs, but Ness carried me through Loser's finals and they both got me through a bunch of different match-ups and players. I even had to use Ness and Lucas separately on different Bayo players because of their playstyles!

In all it was a really fun tournament, I didn't get to participate in doubles but it would have been fun too. I'm really excited for the next one, hoping I can make it this weekend somehow... :D

Awesome, this was faster than I expected. :p
Though I'm a bit embarrassed to post this, I suppose I should try to help kickstart this forum! (And save data, of course.)

33rd out of 72 / Birmingham Brawl 5 / 31-1-2016 / Homewood, Alabama, United States

http://smashboards.com/rankings/birmingham-brawl-5-smash-4-singles.11512/event

I only used Lucas throughout this entire tournament, mainly in order to better my Lucas as well as my matchup knowledge. Everybody there was really kind, and I even got some worthy tips from Ness/Lucas main PS | Pudd. I lost in winners' bracket to a Diddy Kong who spaced me out really well and set banana baits. He happened to win 2nd Place at the tournament, and is 3rd Place overall in the Alabama Power Rankings. So needless to say he was really good. Went 0-2, but both matches were really close and neither were a 2 stock. Soon after I lost to a impressive and surprising Charizard main in losers'. I mostly lost due to lack of matchup knowledge, but that is not to knock on my opponent; he was formidable! Similar 0-2 situation with really close matches and no 2 stocks.

Birmingham Brawl 6 is scheduled to be February 27th and I'm really excited to return and show my improvement! Shooting for Top 10! Thanks for reading, and I hope you have a fantastic day! :b:

So I switched mains from Ness to Lucas starting in 2016, heres all my results so far. Some replays (a lot of old ones too so just ignore those) can be found here https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLXpD3D1s12lasT012caURYtZFWQx_mjSB. I used Ness every now and then, but these were basically all Lucas.

These are some gorgeous placings Meccs Meccs !

I'll start adding these results to the OP soon. Unfortunately I'm not too familiar with the general area names for these tournaments. So, I'm not too sure what states are technically in the 'midwest', or the 'Atlantic North', etc. Can anyone give me a rough idea of what these areas include?

This is what my research led to:

"Midwest" includes Wisconsin, Minnesota, Nebraska, Iowa, Missouri, Colorado, Kansas, and Illinois.

"Atlantic North" includes Massachusetts, New York, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virgina, Rhode Island, Philadelphia, New Jersey, and Maryland.

I'm not 100% sure if these are all the included states, or if I am possibly missing any. I find the area naming system confusing as well, as there is no good place to go to find all this information out and whether or not it's correct. If anyone has a link to information or knowledge of the areas I'd like to know as well.

Right - And South Atlantic would be Delaware, Florida, Georgia, North and South Carolina, Virginia, W. Virginia and Washington D.C.

Although according to my research on that one, Maryland is part of the South Atlantic. :O Probably doesn't matter toooooooooo much though.

These are some gorgeous placings Meccs Meccs !
Thanks! I've been disappointed after most events this year, because I know I can do better. But looking at them all listed out makes me feel a little bit better about my play so far. I'm doing alright, but I'm really only satisfied with a couple of those results.

Hmm, have you tried using Ness in troublesome MUs? Ness will serve you a lot better in MUs like Sheik, Diddy, Yoshi etc.

That being said I totally understand how you're feeling. I have total faith you'll get there. :D

EDIT: Results have been updated in the OP.

Don't forget Alabama Is part of the South Atlantic too. ;) Though it appears you have listed it correctly in the OP.

Hmm, was there a prize pool for it? If so it should count, it would have been a result in the same tournament anyways if they had gone straight into bracket, for instance.

Good golly that sounds ridiculous (but also a heap of fun). How was Rosa though? I've always felt it's doable with us, but perhaps she didn't give you room to breathe and/or the MU is just worse than I thought?

Don't believe so. Someone told me I'd get my $5 back but I didn't.

I was playing so poorly, lucky to get even 9th. All the players above me are very good, but that doesnt mean sh*t since I wouldnt even take a game off any of them right now. I'm not a threat to get even top 8 when the bracket is like this anymore, and I hate that. I have one lucky win over Pugwest and that's the only notable player I've beaten this year. Stuck in mediocrity, I'm sorry I haven't been able to do more for a character who could really use some good rep right now. idk I'm mainly just disappointed I havent been able to get Lucas the results and representation I hoped I could, even if my results seem okay to some, know that I'm really trying to do more. Hopefully I'll be playing well for the two monthlies we have coming up :)

You kidding? Placing that high in general is not only great, but also impressive considering your competition. I can barely get past half the entrants at most of the tourneys I attend so I wouldn't beat yourself up. Though never settle for second best either. Make sure that if you WANT that Top 8 or 1st Place you EARN IT. You seem to know all this already. But if I can in any way invigorate you with new morale, then I shall! Good luck sir!

Also I found the results to a previous tourney I went to, so feel like adding it as well.

Can't say I remember everything from this tournament other than TheReflexWonder attended and I lost in winner's to a Fox and lost in loser's to a Little Mac. I can guarantee I still had a good time though! Still eagerly awaiting the next one! :)

WR1: Fought a Meta Knight player. I was able to beat him game 1 thanks to a solid edgeguard and some good down throw follow-ups. Games 2 and 3, he was able to pull off some scarily early kills with his up b. I was doing a good job of DI-ing to make the up air -> up b combos hard, but he definitely got me with a nasty raw up b at some point. I also had a bit of trouble edgeguarding him as the set progressed. He, on the other hand, was chasing me pretty far off stage to make recovering much more difficult. I had never fought a Meta Knight before, so I'm glad I got some exposure to the matchup. I'm disappointed I wasn't able to clutch out a second game, though.

LR1: Played against a Diddy. I have a little bit of Diddy experience, but I'm still far from comfortable in the MU. I had a lot of trouble edgeguarding him even though I knew exactly what he was going to do (really high side b. Every. Single. Time). I was able to demolish him if he did try to recover low, though. I did manage to catch him with an up air at kill % once, but closing out stocks against him was frustrating. I took game 1, but he took game 2. That's when I took a step back and thought about the way he was playing. His neutral basically consisted of standing in place and throwing a banana or shooting a peanut and then repeating this until I approached, when he would pick a smash attack and pray. I baited some dash attacks and smash attacks out and then punished him for it. I felt kind of bad that I had lost a game to this Diddy, but I'm glad I was able to take a step back and think a bit more about what I was doing.

LR2: This guy had beaten the best player in my local scene (JSwiss) a few months back (no worries, JSwiss got his revenge later on), so I got a bit of an idea of how good the guy was. He played Mii Brawler against me, which kind of threw me off. I had never played against Mii Brawler before, and I had no idea what he was capable of. I was able to keep both games respectably close thanks to a few solid combos and edgeguards, but I ended up losing 2-0. I think the thing that surprised me the most was how early his up b killed me.

There was an amateur bracket open for those who didn't make top 16, but I opted out because I wanted to get food for the other Springfield guys who were all stuck in various other brackets. I also wanted to spend the rest of the day focusing on Melee. I kind of wish that I had entered because one of my biggest weaknesses is lack of matchup experience, but at least I dodged fighting any Clouds this time around.

OP updated. PKBeam PKBeam I kept the Amateur's result in because you were supposed to receive some kind of pay-out, even if it didn't actually happen (which is upsetting tbh). I'll probably divide it up the same way I do for 2v2s and the like. Good stuff to everyone. ^_^

Vids should be coming out soon.

Used any other characters? - :4ness:

I've got some pretty mixed feelings about this placement. It's the first Aussie smash 4 tournament I haven't come first in, and there were less people at this tournament than usual, but the skill ceiling was much higher and more of our top players were there. It was also FULL of upsets - Our first seed got sent to losers halfway through bracket by like the 4th seed, and our 3rd seed got sent to losers by the same person and was then beaten in losers by like the 6th or 7th seed who ended up coming 4th. In other words, two of our top players ended up at 5th, and while the other top player did retain the throne, it was still quite an insane day. I ended up pushing the same first seed out of the tournament but I was taken out myself by the guy that got 1st and the guy that got 2nd respectively (loser's finals was stupidly close though).

I think I'm just sad because I wasn't playing on point, and other people noticed it too. I think people were still impressed with our placements given how generally hectic bracket worked out to be, but yeah, this has given me a lot of incentive to work hard again to get first place once more.

I'm not happy about this at all. Both loses were 100% my mistake and shouldn't have happened imo.
I did however played om stream so yay. :)

Again not happy, I also used :4bayonetta2:against random Cloud and lost because I SD'd and :4marth: against my 2v2 partner who kicked me out of the tournament.
I should have gotten at least 17th, but I SD'd with Bayonetta because I thought I still has a jump.

I'm almost a broken record but yet again not very happy with this placement. We got knocked out of the tournament because Cloud is fraudulent and horrible. Why is this character legal in doubles? Anyway, my partner in crime reads his jump and spikes with Cpt.Falcon but Cloud does a panic finishing touch so he drops down but still kills Cpt.falcon of the top, even though falcon wasn't even near him anymore because he got spiked down. And to add insult to injury, Cloud doesn't die because Finishing touch cancels momentum. I wouldn't mind a Cloud ban in doubles at all, mark my word this character is cancerous for the 2v2 meta. Watching Beast 6 doubles was a snoozefest because of Cloud. Finals was just Cloud + any character. I mean come on, please stop.

This is New England's major regional. I used Ness for 1 set, in LF of my pool. I lost to them 1-2 in winners semis in pools as Lucas, won g1, choked g2. got spiked g3... so when I played them again in LF I went Ness and won. Overall not bad considering most of the best players in NE were there plus some OoR. Shame I lost immediately on t32 but its alright.

Side note: Another Lucas main K3H got T-17th!

Soooo... didn't do very well this one. If you look at the bracket ranking you could argue I made 34th place but that doesn't really count. :p Anyways I still had more fun at this tournament than all others thus far. For reasons such as: writing new player notes, commentating matches, exchanging reactions with TheReflexWonder, and meeting and befriending a fellow Lucas main. But before talking about my matches, first I have a little story about said Lucas main. (Just skip it if you don't care. Honestly it's not that important; rather it is coincidental.)

So I come to the venue and I'm playing friendlies with some guys, but mostly friends who came to attend the tourney as well. A guy comes and asks for some matches and of course we let him join. I'm still in the rotation as this guy's turn comes around. He picks Ike and I think, "Ok, I got this". Proceed to 2 stock him and win with low percent. Easy $. Then he switches to Lucas and wants a ditto. My friends agree and we play a match. This guy was good, like, SUPER GOOD. We both were at decent percents last stock until he got me with a b-air spike way of stage. Brutal to say the least. He then tells me he's actually a Lucas main and made 8th Place at the most recent HASL tournament (Which is impressive btw). His tag/name is R-Magic. He then compliments me on my Lucas, we talk and exchange tips, and then he eventually leaves the setup. Fast forward three rounds into the tournament and I'm in loser's bracket. I ask my TO who I'm facing up against next in bracket, and you can guess who it is. R-Magic. Of course we got put against each other, I mean why not? So our match is called and I head towards the setup (which was a recording setup) and meet him there. We talk about how coincidental is was that we faced each other and get into the matches. Long story short, (will be explained further in the matches discussion) we play a extremely close 2-1 set with him winning. I was a bit upset as I didn't want to go out that way. But I accepted it. He once again compliments me, and then asks me about other tournaments. The rest is pretty meaningless so I won't ramble longer than I should, but I thought this would be neat to share.

Anyways, after that long story here's the matches. Round one was against Bigham, placed 33rd, played Cloud. Cloud is arguably one of my worst matchups; not for Lucas but me personally. I still do a decent job a spacing him the whole set, but ended with a close 2-1 loss. 2nd game I got a really early KO which basically secured me the game, so that felt good. I ready up for my round two match against Majin Bam, placed 65th, played Pikachu. This honestly should've been a somewhat easy win for me, but I lost 1st game partially to the fact that I was a bit discouraged at my early loss. 2nd and 3rd games I pretty much have this guy's strategy downloaded and beat him pretty swiftly, winning 2-1. Round three was against R-Magic, placed 17th, and a fellow Lucas main who I had JUST MET that tournament. We both play pretty even spacing, projectile, and off-stage games. The set ends in yet again another close 2-1 loss, somewhat due to the fact that in the last game I went to absorb PK Thunder recovery with PSI Magnet, got PK Freeze instead, and get sent the opposite direction towards the blast zone by PK Thunder 2 and die. Yup, that happened. Either way I enjoyed the match and was glad to see he got placed 17th. Overall the tournament was super enjoyable. I did witness two rages during that tournament but at least nothing was broken. :p I was a bit ill prepared but I'm pushing myself to be ready for the next tournament! Thanks for reading, and I hope you have a fantastic day! :b:

P.S. - The first round and third round matches were recorded and will eventually be uploaded. When they are uploaded I will post them in the Lucas video thread. If you're interested in seeing those matches (whenever they're uploaded) or other cool videos check them out here! http://smashboards.com/threads/this-theatre-stinks-the-lucas-video-thread.398022/

Update 3/16/16: Due to a bit of delay for the individual videos to come out, I recorded them and uploaded them myself to my own Youtube channel. Check the videos thread as suggested before and they should be there!

This was my first tournament ever. I got knocked out of winners by a Kirby player who went on to win the tournament (he is also PR #6 in MN). I was eliminated by a Rosa player later on. Since it was my first tournament I was completely unfamiliar with most character matchups played at a decently high level. Overall was a good tournament.

13th out of 56 / Smash Club / 2/23/2016 / St. Paul MN

Things went much better at this tournament. I was beating players that are regulars at these events. I got knocked out of winners by Triple R, a Kirby player ranked number 3 in the state, but I took game one off him and lost game two in a last stock last hit situation. I was eliminated by the same Rosa player from the last tournament, so that was a little frustrating. I just need to adapt to his edgeguards which don't actually happen off stage, but trying to get off the ledge.

7th out of 24 / Cyber Cup / 2/28/2016 / St. Paul MN

This was a smaller event that just recently started hosting tournaments. I was immediately knocked into losers match 1 by a PR #10 ROB player. Two decently close games. I messed up my recovery in one game and didn't handle his gyro very well since I didn't have much Rob experience. I swept through losers until I had to play the same Rob again. Did much better handling his gyro pressure this time. Lost in two very close games. My zair failed to grab the ledge at the end of game two and it cost me a very winnable game.

Overall, after three tournaments I would say Lucas catches most players by surprise, especially in my region since no one plays him. I have yet to play a matchup that felt unwinnable.

http://smashboards.com/rankings/kamicon-smash-4.12518/event

Took a little while for this events page to be made but it finally arrived! This is my best placing so far I believe and I played really well during this tournament in my opinion. My ranking doesn't quite support that but I was satisfied overall. On with the match analysis!

Round 1 Winner's: Bidoof - Pikachu
Don't really remember much about this match honestly since it was so long ago. I know he got a stock off during one game, but I'm pretty sure the set was 2-0 victory. Not too difficult of a player or matchup.

Round 2 Winner's: Spade - Sheik/Cpt. Falcon
This was a bummer. Going up against a Alabama PR player early in bracket, again. Got really bopped this set in a 0-2 loss. My biggest problem was the lack of Sheik matchup knowledge. Not a lot of Sheiks in my area honestly so it was a bit of an uphill battle. The speed and mobility of Sheik far exceeded Lucas's, so I was kinda tossed around the stage. In both games I managed to get off a stock, but didn't happen till I was already at high percent. Need more experince against this player/matchup.

Round 2 Loser's: Captain Fabulous - Cpt. Falcon
This was actually a guy I had played friendlies with a bunch the day before. The set was a solid 2-0 as it was pretty clear he only entered for fun, which is fine. He got a pretty good f-smash read on me, but other than that it was a easy win.

Round 3 Loser's: Divedude - ???
Honestly have no recollection of who this guy played. All I remember was that this guy was obviously a casual, but had a pretty good grasp on the game. Easy 2-0 victory.

Round 4 Loser's: Kyu Rain - Villager
A more versed player that knew what he was doing, but I still won 2-0. It was mainly due to the fact that one of my friends mains Villager, so I have a bunch of experience in the MU. Still a decent opponent compared to those before him.

Round 5 Loser's: JeSuis - Lucina (?)
Decent Lucina but mainly kept going for f-smash reads to get an early kill. He didn't play much offstage because I spiked him once and intimidated him. The whole game was a bunch of PK Fire spacing and z-air to grabs, and grabs to kills. I feel like he played another character but can't recall at this point in time. Game was a 2-0 victory.

Round 6 Loser's: Spade - Cpt. Falcon/Sheik
Came so far up the bracket that I had my chance for redemption. And I failed. :p He decided to go Falcon all that set, but it was his original main so he knew what he was doing. Games were closer than those beforehand, but I still ended up losing 0-2. I know I should have had a better advantage in the matchup, but I always fall apart against rushdown characters personally and his Falcon is one of the most balanced playstyles I had faced yet. Definitely looking forward to a rematch.

Overall the tournament was pretty well run. The size of the room though could have been expanded, as it was in the "Game Room" of the convention; many other games were being played at the same time whether it was other tournaments or free-to-play. I did appreciate though that they got a panel room for Winner's Finals, Loser's Finals, and Grand Finals that was played from a projector onto a decently sized projection screen, so that was cool! I'd say it was a pretty awesome tournament, and the convention itself was run pretty well! I usually go to the convention every year, so I look forward to next time!

So, this happened. I lost my first match against a Donkey Kong again and then climbed my way to the final 3.
Got extremely lucky a few times especially at losers round 3 where it was 1-1 last stock and he was playing so annoying that I just got tired of playing, stopped caring so I did a Up-smash instead of perfect shielding ZZS's aerials and it worked. I'll posts vids when there uploaded.

Used Marth in pools because I hate :4peach:-:4lucas:and again in bracket against a Lucina.
Ness was to feel out a Pacman. I lost all three matches anyway.

I think I did a lot better in this one. I was lucky that brackets was top 3 from pools, not top 2. I also beat someone seeded like 10 places above me too.

Also better change the first one i submitted to 13/16th, since apparently its counted by the amount of people who made it into brackets (???). FWIW 50 people signed up for Smash 4, so I'm happy with my result.

And he finally comes! Great to see you'll be more active on Smashboards; hopefully in the Lucas forums too. Also which Bham Brawl was it? I have all of them in my saved threads.

It was Bham brawl 6, apparently got 17th there too. At least I'm consistent lolol

At the risk of going off topic, you should come to BIO in Tuscaloosa this weekend. Was kinda sad to not see you at Bham brawl 7

Here's the link if you still need it: http://smashboards.com/threads/birmingham-brawl-6-melee-pm-smash-4-2-27-16-birmingham-al.432087/

I think I actually posted about that tournament in this thread. Anyways, I've considered going to BIO since I skipped Bham Brawl; not 100% sure but it's on my mind. And I kinda felt the same way about you being absent from the Kamicon tournament. Funny enough I finished in 17th place. I was holding down the fort there for you. :p
