really Brawl is a naturally sluggish game and is far more focused on countering and out thinking than its previous game. If you want speed and dominance, its a character specific thing and you'll have to play a speedy player, like Fox, Marth, or Sonic.

I was good right away. From the millions of youtube vids I watched it came naturally. I knew in the back of my head there was no way I would suck just due to how used to it I became off youtube videos. It was liek I knew how Diddy Kong would function.

That's basically it.

When I picked up Ike, I really sucked; after about a battle I figured him out. I'm probably average more or less right now, but I was pretty horrible when I first, FIRST, played the game.

It took me about a 2-3 weeks to get used to it. My main in melee was falco (gannondorf second), so I had to adapt to both of their new playing styles

I was good instantly (not), but it took about 2-3 weeks to get used to the new mechanics of the game. I was great with newcomers when I first started playing, but it took me quite a while to figure out how different Link was. Even if he was only tweaked here and there.

A couple of weeks. Mostly because I don't play much though, and I still don't so much **** on my plate of life it's ridiculous...

It's only a difficult transition if you make it one. Veterans will likely be harder to adjust to since you'll be used to their Melee incarnations, but I picked up the basic Lucas in a couple of days.

IMO, the best way to force yourself to get used to Brawl is to go through the various 1P modes on a tolerable difficulty with as many characters as possible. (Classic/All-Star with everyone, use as many different characters as possible in SSE.) Not only will you learn the moves, but you'll learn how they operate in Brawl.

It works for me, anyway.

I watched so many Lucario and Diddy videos I already knew how to do a bunch of combos and techniques when I first got the game. Dedede didn't take me long to learn. So a couple of days I guess.
