Given Shulk, I do unironically wonder if Swimsuit Joker will be an option...

I was thinking they could stick to the civilian guise as an alt, but we'll see what happens.

Alright, fellas, place your bets. What do you think Persona/Joker's series symbol is going to be?

This thing is what I'm talking about.
Either Phantom Thieves hat or Jack Frost. Former's likelier tho.

Hoping they reference P4 with one of his alts, a Yu alt seems like a no-brainer

What's going to be surreal to me is seeing him in the Smash style. Persona has such a specific visual style (as of P3, anyway), that picturing Joker in the game as a playable character is pretty difficult, but I'm sure they'll blow me away like they always do.

Hi everyone, I am pleased to do nowadays one of my VERY rare post in here cause I am no longer active anymore :)

So, I just wanted to say that pretty much EVERYTHING about this news has been insane. The reality is Joker was one of those character that I really would have wanted, but one that I would find pretty much impossible to get in (and the comment Sakurai made on Nintendo choosing the newcomers just made it worse because I assumed it meant no third parties). I might want to go back and read the thread when it happened because I imagine the confusion + excitement it brought.

Seriously, NO ONE could have possibly predicted this. The fact we got anything ssb related at the freaking VGA is already confusing enough (it's honestly the least likely event to even get ANYTHING this huge), but the fact it's the first DLC announcement THIS early is also insane. Cause if you do some date math, you would get that on average, 3 months per DLC (15 / 5) so that would mean that the first DLC is expected to be like March/April of 2019) meaning we shouldn't even be close to an announcement.....and yet we got one!

Just as if it wasn't enough, IT WAS 20 MINUTES BEFORE RELEASE IN US AND CANADA!!! Everyone was hype as heck, I myself even had a full screen countdown on a secondary monitor and began to REALLY be tense for it (no joke I even planned to all nighter that day by working VERY hard in advance for some unis work, it worked because I stayed up for 20 hours lol). So imagine this: I am very tense waiting for 20 minutes and then a surprising and hype dlc announcement happens.....I can't explain how emotionally unstable I was lol, I even had to leave the discord server I was in early instead of last minute before release because I was just too shook!

Finally, the elephant in the room: it's freaking joker. Like I watched p5 (never played it, and tbh even if I had a ps4, I kinda don't want to do that because of how disgusted I was with atlus bullying rpcs3) so I know the stuff and I love the ost and I know how cool joker is, but to freaking imagine him in ssb to me was just a dream. How did that just happened guys? I am not even sure if I actually processed it cause can you imagine the implications?

Music, there's a ton to choose from (btw, my favorite is will power.....I love that song! but it likely mean something like poem of the souls because......it's poem of the souls, it's a classic you don't need a reaosn to put that in), stages too (although I see casino of envy as the most mentioned idea) and of course........the moveset! Seriously, just thinking about the movesets makes me Kreygasm :)

So all in all, enjoy guys, because I am defintely buying it even though I won't play online (cause I am determined to not pay them for that service).

Since characters are limited to 8 alts, I'd rather Joker's alts be a reference to his fellow PTs instead. After all, Joker seems to be representing Persona 5 and not Persona or SMT in general hence the end of his trailer explicitely saying "SSBU x P5".

That and part of me is kind off sick of Yu Narukami or any reference to him by now.

Well, to be fair, Cloud was advertised as representing FF as a whole, but his trailer says “SSB x FF7”.

I find it unlikely that he'll have much, if anything, in the way of actual alts anyway (especially if it barely scratches the surface of the datamined open 29 ID slots).

His final smash has to have the all out attack. It would be so cool. It's so flashy and I feel like it would just work well.

True. It would be so cool to see Morgana and maybe even Futaba in the game. But they probably wouldn't go with Futaba for the final smash given that she doesn't fight but it would still be cool.
I'm fine with it as long as she gets to be in a chat feed. I just need my gal Takamaki to be in on the All Out action.

Hey, that artist just made a new art piece featuring Joker and another masked hero of justice...

I know, SS is really having a ball with him, since most recent drawings on there center on or feature him.
It makes sense, as he is a very diffrent character among the Smash cast(Even all the way down to his weapon. Seriously, how did it take this long for us to get a character that weilded knives?), as well as his arrival bringing together two fandoms that never typically interacted. I am just glad it brings along a ton of cool fanart.
Edit: Well, along with him being in the game in the first place, of course.

That would be much better than Satanael. Less spoilery, more stylish, and more representative of Persona 5 in general.
Look, if we're not at least partly fighting with the power of friendship, then we're not really representing Persona, are we?

I could see Futaba or Morgana having voice cameos a la Doc Louis with Little Mac, given how they both act as navigators?

Oh dear god, you just made me realize: The crossover shipping Joker's inclusion will entail, especially when Smash has its fair share of ladies and gentlemen in the cast. You thought Persona shipping wars were bad? Then ho boy will this open a whole new can of worms.

Inb4 Morgana forces Joker to go sleep again.
Reminds me of how I visualize Joker's official gameplay trailer. Imagine: After he his cool gameplay stuff, does his Final Smash, then followed by the logo of the game. Cue the Stinger where Joker tries to run off, only for a Jigglypuff to grab him then sing him to sleep lol.

I think it'll end up being an All-Out Attack. Morgana says "We'll be going up against the best of the best!" in the reveal trailer, so I would think the rest of the team plays some kind of role!

If it does end up being an All-Out Attack, I wonder if they'll get all of the party members doing it together? It would also be cool if it chose three random members to join you for it each time.

I feel like I'm the only person that, when they heard Nintendo was deciding the DLC characters, expected most if not all of them to be third parties. Nintendo wants to sell the dlc. Adding bottom of the barrel Nintendo characters is not going to do that in comparison to the many big third party characters out there. I definitely didn't expect Joker to be one of those third party characters, but in hindsight, it makes sense.

Taking a look at screenshots of Persona 5, I’m still pretty confident that Sakurai would make him look good in the Smash engine. Hell, if you take a look at reactions to the announcement of Ken, they joked about how his face looks better than it does in Street Fighter 4/5. You’d have to be pretty pessimistic to think Sakurai wouldn’t do Joker justice if he could make Ken’s face good. Though, maybe the Persona stage could put the Smash Fighters in the graphics style of Persona if he was willing to go that far.
I've definitely considered the possibility, but the long story short is that the Smash team is better than Smashified in every way, and if they can make Shulk have an art style similar to his original concept art while still fitting in Smash, Joker should be just fine. I'm pretty excited to how he turns out.
You're Persona fans so if you're not worried then it will probably be fine.

And since the game sells like hotcakes on the first day, the first third party sure making an effect is the tip of the iceberg. I am pretty much expecting just two first parties for the fighter pass anyway.

Oh yeah, I didn't even think about that, it would be pretty clever.

And be further proof Chrom got less attention than the others, since he beats himself up with Robin's FS.

I just read a comment about the art style of Joker. How is Sakuri (sorry if I spelled the creator's name wrong. I'm still learning) going to do the art style of smash but still make it look persona like? I'm sure he can do it, I'm just wondering what everyone thinks.

I imagine he'll kind of resemble how the Fire Emblem fighters look; stylized with an anime-esque appearance with enough detail to the textures to fit into Smash's art style. It's going to be surreal seeing him in Smash once the trailer drops. I think we'll see the trailer in March-ish (when I predict the next big Nintendo Direct will drop), and he'll probably be out in June, in time for whatever character(s) they announce at E3. I'm assuming the trailer indicates they don't have any development to show for it yet; Mewtwo was announced roughly 6 months before his addition as DLC, and they were able to at least show a fully rendered model at that time. So I expect Joker will be a long ways off which is good because I'll have time to finish Persona 5 by then.

My biggest hope is the party members chatter during his trailer, strangely none of the Smash Ultimate trailers have had dialogue in them (except a brief line from Richter in the FMV of Simon's trailer), compared to some of the Smash 4 trailers like Palutena's, Bayonetta's, and Robin/Lucina's.

Personally, I did want an Atlus rep within Smash Ultimate which rangers from Shin Megami Tensei's Jack Frost to Persona 4's Yu Narukami.

Other than that, Joker was a great surprise and I am thrilled to see him being playable within Smash!

Remember though, they have five characters to release within a year, and that's not even including Pirahna plant. They can't take 6 months this time.

The last release is in February 2020 they said. So I could see it like this.

Piranha Plant: February release
Joker: March trailer > June release
Fighter 2-3: E3 announcement > June release
Fighter 4: September announcement > October/November release
Fighter 5: December announcement > February release

Going off of Smash 4 DLC, where two fighters were announced at E3 in addition to Lucas and then we had to wait six months for Cloud to be released.
