Or something that isn't a video game. Your choice.

Anyway, this wouldn't be full rosters like in the other thread, it'd just be your personal wishlists that could go into a bigger roster - no need to waste time putting Mario/Mickey/Goku/Sonic/whoever on everything or figuring out the nuances of representation balance!

I still put too much on here…

Fifteen first parties for Super Smash Brothers (no particular order to these)
  1. Anybody who could represent Rhythm Heaven well
  2. Ray (Custom Robo), especially in a very customizable Smash game
  3. ExciteBiker (ExciteBike)
  4. Andy, Sami, or Nell (Advance Wars) [Andy is the face, but Sami is a more active soldier type, while Nell is your instructor, and could theoretically command many characters in one moveset…depends how I feel]
  5. Lip (Panel de Pon)
  6. Isaac (Golden Sun)
  7. Chibi-Robo
  8. Sukapon (Joy Mech Fight)
  9. Dr. Wright (SimCity)
  10. Someone “from Super Smash Brothers”
  11. Undo Dog (Mario Paint/Mario Maker)
  12. Ganon (Legend of Zelda)
  13. Someone else (Punch-Out)
  14. Team Rocket/Team Grunt (Pokémon)
  15. Captain N

…you’ll note, I emphasized a lot of new series, as well as what I feel are the big, recurring “new to Smash” Nintendo series for the game. As well, I think most of them would be unique in either moveset function, genre they’re from, or both.

Isaac and Chibi-Robo are more so popularly seen from others, but have some uniqueness to them.

Sukapon doesn’t really have more than one game to himself, but he is from Nintendo’s first enjoyable fighting game, and already has a fairly distinct design and moveset, so I’d say let him in.

Dr. Wright…the Sim series is big, and while it is usually EA-associated, Dr. Wright is specifically a Nintendo-owned character, it seems, so he goes here. Having him create buildings, manage resources, send out natural disasters, or even another big Bowser to attack like a Kaiju…I think it’d be fun.

Someone from Smash…this can be Sandbag, Primid, Tabuu, Master Hand/Crazy Hand, or even the technicality of Dragon King.

Undo Dog…another weirdo, and a dog who’s abstract/cartoony enough, unlike the Nintendogs and like the Duck Hunt Dog. Mario Maker is a fairly liked/successful Mario spin-off, as was Mario Paint back in the day, and I’d like to see what kind of strangeness they could make with a moveset that has aspects of both.

Ganon…the pig with the trident, flame bats, various other magic attacks, etc. Unique weapon, unique Ganon moveset, but you can keep FalconDorf, if you really want.

Punch-Out…Punch-Out is such a fun, well-designed series, and the enemy boxers of the series are very distinctive. Aran Ryan has moveset with all his cheating shenanigans but isn’t the most iconic. King Hippo, Bald Bull, and Glass Joe probably the most iconic (original) boxers in the series but it’s variable how much moveset potential they have…though I think you could convincingly enough turn Bald Bull into a grappler, and especially have King Hippo attack with items associated with him (crown, manhole cover, pineapples)…they don’t have to as rigidly stick to boxing as Mac does. Doc Louis is a good non-enemy candidate, sticking around as long as Mac does, and he has added gimmicks like chocolate bars, his bicycle, maybe training equipment. I do know that this series isn’t as iconic in Japan as it is in the West, but still, it’s a wishlist.

Team Rocket/Team Grunt…basically, an evil team trainer from Pokémon who works completely different from our heroic(?) one. This Grunt, in fact, fights themselves, with various items from Pokémon games, even the card game or anime, perhaps. Sometimes Pokémon are also summoned to supplement. I either imagine that or Meowth with Jesse & James as a strange Wolverine/Doronjo hybrid. The only issue I see with this is that people would be disappointed it’s not just a regular Pokémon itself. Think three-dimensionally, though, yes.

Does Captain N fully count as “first party”? Probably not, given the rights are probably split with DiC, but he is entirely themed around Nintendo, comes from the other most famous Nintendo-themed crossover, and he could be another interesting “full circle” thing in a similar vein as the outright Smash-Brothers-based fighter. I imagine the Zapper is a given, and maybe any other NES controller/peripheral is fair game for a moveset, as well as what’s already in the show or comics (teleporting in multiple directions, enhancing his jumps, the “Pause” feature, and other random features the Power Pad had).

Fifteen third parties for Super Smash Brothers (Roughly chronological order)
  1. An Atari 2600 character
  2. Kunio-Kun (River City)
  3. Tetromino (Tetris)
  4. Carmen Sandiego
  5. Ryu Hayabusa (Ninja Gaiden)
  6. Guybrush Threepwood (Monkey Island)
  7. Scorpion/Sub-Zero (Mortal Kombat)
  8. DOOM Guy/Slayer (DOOM) / Master Chief (Halo)
  9. A Sony PlayStation character
  10. Lara Croft (Tomb Raider)
  11. Crash Bandicoot
  12. Marco Rossi (Metal Slug)
  13. Reimu Hakurei (Touhou Project)
  14. Chell (Portal)
  15. Peashooter/Sunflower (Plants VS Zombies)

A lot of new genres and historical representation in these, as well. Some popular and not-as-popular ones in this list. I’ll mostly explain the ones I think should be clarified.

I specify the Atari 2600 as that is 1. Most synonymous with Atari and early gaming. 2. Most of the potential picks here like Yorgle/Hero (Adventure) or Bentley Bear (Crystal Castles), I envision as sort of an Atari Mr. Game & Watch, though if it were Centipede or even the Pong Paddle, I’d want to extrapolate specifically from their inherently unique body types, as well as searching through their games specifically for material.

Scorpion and Sub-Zero could come in together, IMO, mainly if Ryu and Ken are back. Not really Echoes and only semi-clones in a loose sense…still, the MK duo VS the SF duo is an absolute dream match, even if as fighting games themselves, I prefer Killer Instinct or Darkstalkers among other popular picks. But Scorpion and Sub-Zero themselves have enough unique moves, coolness, and marquee value, even if their series isn’t sold in Japan like that.

DOOM and Halo both have almost equal merits. Ideally, we could have both FPS space marines, but it may depend. Both are owned by the same people now, too. Damn consolidation…

Sony…we have technically PlayStation associated characters (including at least two more on my list), but I do mean one that Sony actually owns, first party PlayStation material. Ratchet & Clank and Sackboy “fit”, PaRappa the Rapper and Sweet Tooth are cool and fit my “something other than platformers and JRPGs” agenda, Astro Bot makes sense if you want to represent PlayStation generally…but I feel like the most “oh my God, that character is in?!?” value goes to Kratos from God of War. It helps that he has a lot of weapon variety, as well, and his main ones are usually generally relatively unique (dual-wield-blades-on-chains or a big axe) so he’s not gonna be too derivative, relatively speaking.

Portal…Valve has fun takes on the shooter genre, but I leaned towards Chell simply because the Portal dynamics intrigue me the most. Portal itself is a charming, unique series, also, and it appeared in another strange crossover (LEGO Dimensions), as well, for what it’s worth. Steam is also huge for PC games, so another big platform represented, but that is more of an aside here.

Peashooter…on the big mobile game series, this is the one I got into playing, at least 1 and 2, anyways. Definitely a summoner, it can even level up all the various other plants it could summon, at least the ones in the Specials. I pick them over Crazy Dave because I am a sucker for the unique body types, and also because I like them better than Crazy Dave. Sunflower may also work as a summoner/leveler, but they can’t attack by themselves.

Addition to the Smash Bros. thing:

Nintendo (No order again)
  1. Space Firebird
  2. Bulborb or Plasm Wraith
  3. Rain Man
  4. Someone tied to early arcade Donkey Kong (Cranky, DK Jr., Stanley Bugman, Pauline, Jumpman),
  5. The Virtual Boy
Third Parties
  1. Agumon/Greymon (Digimon)
  2. Quote (Cave Story)
  3. Franklin/Michael/Trevor (Grand Theft Auto V)
  4. Eggman (Sonic)
  5. Morrigan Aensland (Darkstalkers)
Overall, I can say that I want unique body types, unique gameplay mechanics, different historical aspects, different genres, new series. I do generally pick these, though, because I like the characters or what they could potentially be in Smash. Some share a slot because I like or consider them equally, though GTA ones all would be alternates for each other, while Agumon/Greymon would have a Digivolving mechanic in some way. I can also clarify some of these extras + the previous ones if asked.

Along with this bonus, you get 20 newcomers for Marvel and 20 newcomers for CAPCOM, no particular order

Marvel
  1. Mysterio
  2. Armor
  3. Nightcrawler
  4. Kingpin
  5. Ruby Thursday
  6. The Fantastic Four [either any individually or as a team]
  7. The Punisher
  8. Daredevil
  9. Blade
  10. Ms. Marvel [Kamala Khan]
  11. Squirrel Girl
  12. Devil Dinosaur
  13. Machine Man
  14. Ant-Man & Wasp
  15. Death’s Head
  16. Spider-Man [Miles Morales]
  17. Shang-Chi
  18. Howard the Duck [out of principle, at least]
  19. J. Jonah Jameson [figure it out]
  20. Combo-Man

CAPCOM
  1. Jack the Ripper (Power Stone)
  2. Juri Han (Street Fighter)
  3. Doctor Wily (Mega Man)
  4. The Four Houses (Resident Evil) [yes, as a team]
  5. Rathalos [cut Fin Fang Foom from Marvel because of him]
  6. Bass.EXE (Mega Man Battle Network)
  7. Pink Ostrich or Alien Green (Battle Circuit) [the latter if no Shuma Gorath due to copyright disputes]
    Sissel
  8. Cosmi (Under the Skin)
  9. Tessa (Red Earth)
  10. Billie Bob (Gun.Smoke)
  11. Poison (Final Fight)
  12. Regina (Dino Crisis)
  13. Black Widow (Saturday Night Slam Masters)
  14. Shoma, Yurika, or Natsu (Rival Schools)
  15. Kevin Striker (Street Fighter 2010)
  16. Asura (Asura’s Wrath)
  17. Gene (God Hand)
  18. Nina (Breath of Fire)
  19. The 1942 airplane [figure it out]
  20. Lt. Lyn Kurosawa (Alien VS Predator)
Turns out most big CAPCOM games got represented, and I’m not too much a fan of automatically putting the “Ryu” of a game in. I already only begrudgingly accept actual Ryu in general, and most of these are obscure anyways, so why not go for more variety?
