Help with piranha Plant code!

So my brother bought smash bros ultimate on christmas and I looked up online how to get the code... turns out I think I can't get it...right?

Can the buyer only get the code? Or can multiple profiles get multiple codes? If I have to buy the game on my account as well to get the code, that's going to suck majorly...some clarification would be nice
