Help with Hydrant Setup

Hello fellow Pacmaniacs,

I am having some trouble with what looks like a vital tool. At around 0:53 and in other parts of the video, Zage upairs the hydrant after walking off and is in a position to uptilt or up B the hydrant:

I can't seem to get the timing of the upair. I land too soon or I'm too far from the hydrant to hit it. Any advice? Particular contoller layout? I can connect back air off hydrant for a turn around jab or tilt but the upair eludes me.

Dash off, immediately DI up and to the side just a little and then up air. Practice with a C stick if you can.
