help with homing attack

hey,
so im kinda new with Sonic, and after watching some tutorial vids, i tried to do the same.
One move that i saw quite alot of people doing is edge-guarding the foe, jump towards his direction and using the Homing attack to knock him out of the stage.
When i try to do this ,for some reason, the attack goes around my opponent and actually throws him back to the stage!
Could someone please tell me what im doing wrong and advise me with some solution?

keep in mind that im a bit of a noob, and im getting started at the technique.

Thanks alot guys.

positioning.

If he's moving towards the stage and/or rising, it helps to start your homing attack if you're lower than your opponent.

If you're above him, there's a good chance your homing attack will go over/behind him and hit him backwards.

I'm pretty sure that's the vid he was talking about.

I don't remember any other vids demonstrating HA usage lol.
Hmm...true

It's just that when I watched that video it made everything clear to me...

Watch my latest match vs. Morningstar (3 III is how it's categorized in the Cinemas).

Bair->bair->homing attack.

Too good.

Overswarm has a LOT of sonic knowledge and he told me not to even do it. I only use it anymore against nojoes' snake and that's IT.

My 2 cents, do something else out there.

Isn't that kind of insulting?

Even though for the moment I won't trust any of the SBR for information regarding Sonic OTHER THAN SP...maybe

[SP?] "Tell the Sonic people out why he's so low on the tier list."

OS: "No disjointed hitboxes of any kind, spam works. And there's nothing that Sonic can do, because the only things that go around it are so telegraphed that the other person can just move out of the way. Like, I literally walked up to DastrnMarco and said
'hey, you're playing Anther's Sonic and you're down a couple stocks; Hold down and just hit A alot. He's gonna jump and do a neutral B. Shield and roll. Then down-tilt again. He then beat Anther's Sonic.'"
Yeah, he does have alot of Sonic knowledge. He really knows how to beat bad Sonics and people who don't know matchups lol

Like alot of Sonic's movements, Homing Attack isn't a good move if your opponent is in an idle state (standing, walking, running, falling with double jumps left) It's so horridly easy to take advantage of - you need to set it up with hits, or by 'pinning' your opponent's choices (ex: when they're recovering)/outpredicting them. But it's a good punisher for sure. It reaches quickly and has a horizontal trajectory.

Alot of people just use it stupidly. And Anther's baby Sonic was no exception :l

You don't use Homing Attack, Spindash, Spincharge with the intent to hit if your opponent is in an idle state, because they can just walk back, dodge, attack, or pull some other horrible counter attack (lol I explained how to **** Sonic's homing attack near the edge a few times across a few threads). You gotta use them smartly, as punisher moves.

HA is really an offstage maneuver. It's way too easy for people to dodge it on stage.

If you're going to use it to gimp and they're facing the stage and you're coming from the stage you should be below them when you initiate the homing attack so you go to their face instead of their back.

:D

Dunno, just felt like visiting the boards again.

Anyways, I like HA gimps. It kinda forces your opponent to double jump early or late, depending on your release timing. And always turn back before using the HA: if you miss, you'll go near the stage, instead of going farther. Plus, if it hits... it sets the enemy for a good bair if he DI towards you (which he most probably will do, because DIng towards the stage means he's DIng towards you).

Jump -> ASC -> C-stick TOWARDS stage -> HA sets you to Spinshot and HA towards the stage, if you time it correctly (or just use the B reversal stuff). You lose your second jump, though =|

I hope that's a joke. If not, then -1000 cool points.

I'd have that as my sig but I feel it would be a little confrontational.

===============================

Yeah, Homing Attack.
Don't use it ever, in any circumstance, not even if you're being paid.
Unless you're playing online, anybody with reflexes is going to punish you for it.

Sonic Unleashed is awesome, when I first saw that scene, I literally LOLed.

I'm still working on trying to beat the game, I'm not as dedicated to Sonic as I should be outside of Brawl.

I've restored 4 of the emeralds I think.

Best game since the Sonic Adventures. If Unleashed had been just moar Sonic and no werehog it would've been the best since the originals.
I dunno why they included him :\ Have they got to fill some sort of minimum ****tyness quota or something?

Wii version? The werehog thing isn't too bad, if you get good at killing the monsters lol.

There's this cool thing you can do where if you're doing a ground move, you can cancel it with shield. So I was basically "shield cancelling" dash attacks and jabs. It's amazing. Tech skill in a Sonic game. wut wut

When you finish the game, go watch vids of the 360 version and cry on the inside.

I pretty much did that.

I suspect the werehog stuff makes sense for two reasons:
  1. They felt like they needed to have some new, unique aspect of the game... which is fair enough (if it doesn't suck)
  2. I'm sure the system requirements of the werehog stuff is a lot simpler than the running scenes; both in terms of storage space, as well as memory/CPU requirements. This would explain why there's more werehog in the Wii version. Also, it's probably a lot less work to develop in terms of level design, etc.

I second infzy's post.

If you play Sonic Unleashed, each daytime stage is like, 5 minutes of Sonic literally blazing by beautifully designed levels. This is the fastest Sonic has EVER been in ANY Sonic game.

Werehog is basically filler...not too bad though, but sometimes I'm just playing through it so I can do more daytime stuff.

Homo Attack can suck my balls.

Yeah Tenki, it's actually the 360 version I've got. How much worse is the Wii version?
