I've recently picked up Falco (I main Mario, but now I'm starting to wonder if I should main Falco instead. Forgive me A.R.!) because of a tournament coming up next week. I've been practicing for about a week and I have several of his tech down, I'm just wondering if you guys could give me tips on how to best play Falco and also on a specific combo that I'm having a hard time executing.
NOTICE: I AM USING A 3RD PARTY CONTROLLER. I KNOW THIS IS A SIN IN THE SMASH COMMUNITY BUT THIS WAS PURCHASED A WHILE BACK WHEN I USED IT FOR CASUAL GAMES LIKE FINAL FANTASY CC/ANIMAL CROSSING/HARVEST MOON, ETC... I HAD/STILL HAVE NO WAY OF ACCESSING A 1ST PARTY CONTROLLER AS I AM IN THE PHILIPPINES.
Ok now that that's cleared up. I want to clarify that the melee scene is practically dead here where I am, because most people play Smash 4. But there is a tournament near me in a week called Melee Revival because they're hoping to revive the scene, which means that several people may have just picked up Melee recently. I've had the game and played with Mario and knew techs for a while which gives me an advantage, but because I chose to use Falco for tournament purposes just a week ago, that does set me back a bit which makes the playing field somewhat even in this perspective since some people may also just be learning their characters now. Others might come from overseas and have also played a long time. So if you guys could help give me some Falco tips (don't necessarily redirect me to YouTube vids, I've seen many of those already, if there are threads with specific details on here that would be tremendously helpful)
The combo in question
Shffl dair > shine > wavedash > shffl dair > shine
The combo was suggested by youtube channel SSBM Tutorials on their video "How to combo with Falco (fastfallers)..."
Now the problem I'm having is getting from dair > shine > wavesdash
I can shine > wavedash comfortably but when you add in the dair, the timing really throws me off
I posted the same question on reddit and suggested it might have something to do with my controller being 3rd party (I know, I know controller johns, git gud skrub) or if I really just needed more practice and I genuinely thought it was the controller because I have no idea what the difference is between 3rd party and 1st party controllers and if they affect input delay.
If you guys could give me tips on how to perform that combo up there, that would be amazing.
Also if anybody could get Westballz to give me tips, that would be a god send
Thanks for your time
