You know what I liked in SSBM? Enemies popping out of crates. Sure, it doesn't sound too awesome, but it extends the gameplay to a certain extent. I mean, it tends to be more entertaining when you have to focus other targets as well.

I suggest making Hazard Enemies. Pretty much enemies that can be damaged that, if not, harm the player. Take the Bomb-Omb, for instance. This guy fights for no one and if he gets ignored he starts seeking a target sorta. Or the sandbag was a nice addition, having to hit it to gain items. So these Hazard Enemies should appear like items (should be toggled and, of course, should be toggled of in single player mode) and damage the players or, when destroyed, become intractable as items. I suggest these items should be unlocked after beating story mode. They would add more fun to the game.

Here are some examples:
Mario Series:
Goomba - Appears and starts walking around, hurting enemies it touches. When jumped on (or when touched in mid-air) the Goomba should launch players upwards like a spring and die.
Red/Green Goopa/Paratroopa - Pretty much like in SSBM, they walk around and, when stepped on, turn into shells.
Buzzy Beetle - Walks around. When a player approaches, curls into his shell. Projectiles throw him away.
Ostro - Walks around carrying a container on his back. When damaged, drops that container.
Pokey - When hit, it's fragments fall off and become throwing items.
Thwomp - Appears in mid-air, above ground. If a player walks under it, drops down. If picked, acts like a box and when left alone starts floating again.

Kirby Series
Bomber - Walks to the nearest ledge and falls. Can be picked like Bomb-Ombs
Cupie - Flies around and throws arrows, which can be picked. Dies after 1 hit.
Sir Kibble - Throws Boomerangs that can be picked and thrown around.
Twister - Deflects missiles and, when approaches, spins pushing away players (Kinda like the Gale Boomerang)

And many more...

I think this would be a great addition to SSB. A lot of great foes could maeke it into the actual games this way.

Thingus' should most certainly attach themselves to the players and sap health away slowly for about 10 seconds, they can be destroyed by a powerful attack when they are not attached to a player.

I'd love to see some Metroid hazard enemies, like:

Space Pirate
-This can be a Space Pirate from any Metroid game. It shoots pew pew beams and attacks with a blade, of course.

Flying space pirate
-Can also be a varying pirate. They shoot missiles and when it dies it falls to the ground below it and explodes.

Baby Sheegoth
-Has a ice shell, Similar to the SSE Shellpod, but only attacking its back will work. Chomps and rams opponents, and sometimes breaths ice breath to freeze opponents. After enough abuse, its ice shell will crack. Then any attack to its flesh will kill it.

War Wasp
-War Wasps charge at opponents, not much damage. Kinda like a paratroopa, except it targets you.

Sherikbat
-Sherikbats hang on ceilings, then surprise attacks opponents that walk by. Dies on impact.

Beetle
-Beetles can hide in non-platform ground, then pop out at try to ram you. If they run into a wall, they get stuck. Then you can pick them up and throw them.

Zoomer
-Zoomers are just spiny-backed bugs that mind their own business. They walk foward but dont target you. They can be killed, but they also can scale walls and ceilings, so it never falls off the map unless it crawls out of the map.

Pulse Bombu
-Pulse Bombus float and drop electrical charges below them that explode on the ground. It wont attack you, but it will charge for you if you use any attack with Electrical properties.

Puffer
-Puffers just float and move up and down in a circular motion. If they are killed, they release a posionous gas. No knockback but causes damage.

Hunter Metroid (Since normal Metroid is AT)
-Hunter Metroids try to latch onto you with a short tentacle, and if they do they will try to drag you towards them. Altough the Hunter Metroid controls your movement, any attack will set you free. If they latch onto you they start causing damage untill you can shake them off like a normal AT Metroid.

Sandigger
-Sandiggers just move around the map. Occasionaly they will try to spit a glob of acid. Not a big threat.

Inglet
-Inglets are rather weak. They shoot small dark matter attacks at you, then hide in a liquid blob, which is their only way to move. It can be attacked in either form, but its hard to hit the blob form. They can move and attack on any surface, such as walls and ceilings.

Warrior Ing
-Warrior Ing are tough. They can run around fast and swipe at you with their legs. At a distance they can shoot energy beams. They too can shapeshift into a liquid form and move around walls and ceilings, but can only attack on walkable land.

Grenchler
-Grenchlers are tough. They will chomp and ram you like a baby sheegoth, except they are faster and more aggresive. They weakness is similar, also on their back and protected by a shell. Destroy the shell and attack the flesh. They can also shoot lightning out of their horns.

Quad MB/CM
-Quads are in 2 parts, the Main Body and Command Module. They are attached, but attack together with a continueous laser beam from the CM's eye.
-The MB requires the CM to function. It can attack you with its legs by swiping you, or it can start spinning around on its legs and ram quickly into you. After it attacks it reaveals its weakspot. It can be killed without the weakspot, but it takes much more time. Any attack on the weakspot destroys the MB, and the CM departs from it.
-The CM alone is weak. It will float around and shoot dark or light attacks at you, not differing much in damage. It is killed easily, however if a unopperated MB is on the feild, it will go attach itself to it without hesitation. Stop it before it does.

Rezbit
-Rezbits have a wide array of offensives. They start in a offline mode, just sitting as a ball of metal. It can be picked up and thrown (Perferably off the map). When it is thrown or attacked in offline mode they dont take damage but they activate. They float and can shoot a rapid-fire energy cannon, or a continous beam. They can also summon a blue sheild to deflect projectiles. They are very easily killed but are quite annoying. The worst part is that they can literally make your game lag on purpose. It dosent affect the game's time at all, but it can make your match freeze every few frames, making it hard to move around. Killing it while its doing this stops the lag, or after 6 seconds it must recharge itself. Its rare that it will do this attack, but when it does it will do a 3-second motion that you will soon memorize after seeing it a few times. Stop it before it completes its motion.

Reptilicus
-Reptilicus are rather skilled in combat. They can attack you with its 4 arm limbs, whip you with a energy whip, or throw a special boomerang at you. They have decent health, and they have the ability to teleport. They dont do this too much, but when they do they will most likely attack you from behind.

Hopper
-A basic creature. It hops around slowly, and attacks you with claws or small venom attacks.

Tinbot
-Despite being a robot, Tinbots are really weak, slow and dumb. Any attack and easily KO them. Their only attack is to shoot weak beams at you, or swipe you if you get too close. (Not to be confused with the Steambots and the annoying Steamlord)

Phaazoid
-Annoying blobs of Phazon energy. They hover around, getting close to you but not ramming. They charge up and release a blast of energy from both sides of it, but the attack only goes perfectly horizontal or vertical, creating a wall attack. When they are killed they split into 2 smaller Phaazoids. A bit smaller and weaker but does the same thing. When they die they are split again, becoming 2 (for each medium-Phaazoid) even smaller Phaazoids. The small Phaazoids just crash into you and explode, but its a weak attack.

Here's some of my Ideas. Hope it works.

Goomba

Yeah, these guys would obviously return, & they need to. Just 2-3 attacks will defeat them, just like Brawl.

Koopa Troopa

Another memorable enemy. Hit them 2-3 times & they will retreat in their shells which you can use as an item. Paratroopa's also return, & can be defeated just like Brawl.

Darknut

A famous Zelda enemy, Darknut's are one of the most powerful enemies in the game. This is because their armor is hard & protected from various attacks. It has two health bars, one which presents the armored state. To defeat the hefty knight, the player must wait for it to attack. Before it could hit, the player must quickly strike & like that, the knight's armor can be quickly stripped off. A quicker way is to sidestep to a Darknut when it attacks & strike it's back, breaking the armor quickly. The player can also jump to it's back & repeat attacking it's back. This is risky though, as Darknuts can quickly react to the player. Once the lower health bar is completely depleted & it's armor is destroyed, They will throw their huge swords a the player, which has high knockback & draw a small rapier. Although weaker & more vulnerable to damage, thew are faster & can block almost any attack with his rapier. Once hit, they receive high damage, & can be quickly killed if struck at the back with a very powerful smash attack. They will only appear in later levels & will gang up in groups of five, making them a formidable (& annoying) foe.

Bulbins/Bokoblins.

Zelda enemies that use military tactics. They use any weapons of their kinds: swords, clubs & bows. In addition, Bulbins also ride Bulbo's as a mose of transport & some elite Bokoblin possess carry Bokoblin horns to call more of their kind. Again they are easy opponents, save for elite members with horns that are the most annoying opponents in the game. Archers take only one shot to defeat, whereas normals ones take 4-5 shots to defeat.

Ninjas throwing shirukens and katana attacks. That would be as rage inducing as Nazo no Muresame-jo.
