I remember reading that and thinking "history will vindicate me." Battlecow: being right on the internet since early 2010.
Except I was right. The switch didn't happen on its own. It only happened when it was server-mandated later. Which was my point.

Every time we tried to convince people to change something, without forcing them, it never happened. Every damn time.

So your idea of the switch not happening is Firo reading my thread, posting a thingy at the top of the galaxy saying "try playing on LAN!," and everyone switching within like a month? IDK man

just realized this was in Jaime's thread lol I feel like I'm defacing a monument.

Like I said, the switch happened because Firo mandated it when the server was moved (it was not just "try playing on LAN", you could not play games without being on LAN). My point was that I don't think people would've switched without being forced.

Anyway I'll stop :S

People started playing on LAN because the server wouldn't accept anything other than LAN connections. After a while, he removed this, but people kept LAN 'cause they had been using it for a few months. (Or they didn't know. LOL.)

I think it would be cool if we all did a little personal smash history. Since it's probably impossible to get any kind of cohesive timeline from the beginning of online smash, this might be the next best thing. Hope Jaime doesn't mind.

HERE I GO:

I started playing summer of 2008 after watching videos of Isai and wanting to get better than an annoying classmate of mine. Back then, NBK was still a thing, iXi was around, of course, PPS was very much alive and kicking (Fireblaster, PD, MattNF, and Koro were the guys I remember). A few times I remember Jaime and Isai logging in with the MC tag.

My first match ever was on a west coast server against a random kirby. I went Jiggs, and the match was played on Zebes. After that I played some Yoshi main and got pwned on Saffron. I didn't discover EGX until a few weeks later.

I started out as a Ness main (lol). My original name was Hebrew Hammer, but when I logged on with that name everyone went nuts and said, "OMG he's back." Apparently it was the name of some old vet, so I changed it. For those wondering, my name is the product of three random letters. Exciting, I know. Gamer tags are weird imo.

Some of my first real competitive matches were against Dylan_Tynga and YAB iXi. Dylan straight up 5 stock ***** me consistently, YAB went nuts when he got his first ever "pika combo" off me in the **** tent.

There was a lot more server chat activity back then. Rich, Garuda, and some of the PPS had their weird little clique going. Somehow the 'GOD ROCKS" chant and "PINGAS" got started. IDK it was kinda weird. Haha, I remember Isai used to stream teams with Lovage, s2j and Jaime, and one time WOTG (new at the time) said, "I could do that," in reference to one of Isai's combos. Everyone ganged up on WOTG. It was pretty vicious.

After a year or two Zod got involved and created the V clan. YBOMBB, Denken, Legendary, Onil, and Kabal were some of the members. Oh YEAH Jbandrew too. They played teams mostly, which was awesome. Ahh the golden age of teams. Now there's only like 5 of you nerds who ever play teams anymore.

MATTS! drama was pretty high at this time. People legitimately disliked the guy. He used to upload videos of him beating Fireblaster and other PPS guys. He used to say things like, "It's pretty sad you guys keep defending him." There was also a lot of drama with unk. He got banned from the server and used to alt. He would say weird things and generally acted like an ass all around.

Let's see, OH YEAH, correct me if I'm wrong, but I"m pretty sure Star King used to be ShootingStar, or something like that, and I played him once when he was still a scrub. Me, Jaime, ShootingStar, and Nixxxxon (quite possibly the worst poster in the history of this site) played a 4 player free for all where Jaime made us play in his 9 frames. Star King you remember this?

I used to team with Killer when he was new. Kick@ss used to host teams, and Killer always demanded he played with me and we rocked a double pika team. Lol it's crazy to think how good he's gotten from back then.

I always beat a falcon main, Agony, with Ness and he would always complain about how the matchup was huge in Ness' favor. Lol Agony.

Battlecow used to be in SEI clan, with Streak, and Lifeup J. There were others (stormcrow maybe?), but I can't remember anymore. That was when Battlecow was a Falcon main and really free and easy.

We used to have servers in Texas, where I played with Camus a lot. Tacos used to be Snake, a DK main with ridiculous DI. Oh the days when I could pwn Tacos...

Sorry this is all stream of consciousness. I got motivated to type this up and wanted to splurge it out before I lost the motivation.
