A lot of boards have video threads, but I can't seem to find any tournament, ladder or even general Falco play for Smash 4. I want to study some higher level Falcos and see what they do so that I know what I'm doing right or wrong, but I can't do that without footage. Anyone got any links?

I have only seen one tourney video of falco it was a Vegas tournament and he used him only in the last set against a Diddy kong. Shofu on YouTube just did a 30 minute video of him playing as falco and he's not bad with him he's above average. He keeps trying to dair instead of fair. Falco's forward air in this game is freaking amazing it gimps at early percents and has good knock back also priority over more characters moves.

Check the "New to falco" post that was recently up I put a pretty close to in depth guide on combos and situational falco things

It's too bad there isn't a Falco video thread. Very strange, he's more popular on the wii u version for sure.

I commentate For Glory matches sometimes to help players see how they can improve. Here are some Falco matches so far:

While I dont consider myself the best Falco by any means, I was rather proud of my progress in my first tourney. I hadn't touched him on a Wii U prior, and I had just got the 3DS on the Saturday before. I placed 5th.

http://www.twitch.tv/orangeforce/b/596096363

I played Falco for each round and my matches were as following:

Vs Ness @ 54:15
Vs Ness @ 1:00:00
Vs Zelda @ 1:14:20
Vs Shiek @ 1:20:20
Vs Shiek @ 1:29:30

Huh, I was about to ask about this. Well, this one's from French or perhaps Canadian French players. The channel's called SmashTime. They don't have good video quality in terms of "professionalism", but that doesn't really matter since it's about Falco (and Fox). This one has a weird song overlap. I think these guys (the players) are pretty much even and it's always that one good read that puts the other ahead.

This is the other video. Audio issues.

We all know about Shofu and zef's fight from the early days. zef plays a great Falco even when the game was just out.

Point is: Falco's slow in comparison to fast characters like Fox, so against them, he really needs to time and space his moves. Side Smash looks like a really great punishing move since that "delay" might catch someone off guard along with its range and hitbox.

really impressive spacing with Bair. I read you saying on another post you dont really use fair alot cuz of how bad it was in brawl i was in the same boat as well. With time im sure if you implement fair into your game more often off stage especially youll get early KOs and gimps. My friends hate me off stage and online i try to be consistent with the lag and whatnot.

that falco played that falcon matchup badly. Everytime falco recovers low we can almost always get an early gimp kill with fair off stage saving the second jump.

Thanks @MunsterMash for these from the Fox Compilation Combo/Video Thread:

I wish JJ was here to give us some tips. MunsterMash confirmed that JJ is just some player he met. 'Tis a shame...

Here's some others on a Lucina/Marth match up.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dh32VUob_3w
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FZMdH3ydSsQ

The first video will be used to help in Lucina: Match-Up Analysis, Discussion thread. Falco's discussion begins on the third page. If you guys want to help, then I encourage you since there needs to be more information on Falco just as there needs to be more information on Wario, Duck Hunt, Toon Link, Wii Fit Trainer, and other sleepers in SSB4. It's not just Diddy Kong, Sheik, Rosalina & Luma, and Captain Falcon. The metagame's still young, but that doesn't mean we can sit around eating bread.

And here's one from Smash@York 2. It starts out with Captain Falcon, but later involves Falco against Mega Man. It's dated, though, so beware. That's all for now since I don't want to overload this thread.

Edit: Yeah... Embeds not a good idea.

Edit 2: Edit Harder: I forgot to ask, but can this be the official Falco video thread?

I swear Im the only falco who still fairs off the stage lol. I don't know why more falco mains don't use it. Yeah you cant fast fall it anymore but the knock back is crazy it can kill around 90 and gimp early around 30-60. I'm going to upload a few videos of me doing it on for glory and locally later today. It's still a really good option

Well, the last video I linked was from October, so people just didn't know. The other ones are fairly recent and from what I'm thinking, JJ's probably a Melee/Brawl Falco player along with the guys in the Lucina fights. That means one thing: muscle memory. They're still doing Dair instead of Fair out of habit and trying to SHDL out of habit.

It's like Ike players not using Down Smash when it was a decent move in Brawl and remains as a good cover move in SSB4 or Zelda and Sheik players not using their Down Specials because they just didn't know how the new moves work or because they never used it in Brawl because of the lag. With Zelda it's more about not knowing how Phantom Slash works and how to apply it, but Sheik not using Bouncing Fish is like Marth not using his tippers. It's essential now. Heck, Bouncing Fish sort of works like ZSS's Flip Jump, so there's something to reference off of.

In Brawl, Falco's Fair was all right to not worth it, but in SSB4, it's amazing even in 1.04. So, it makes sense for people to still have Brawl's mindset or muscle memory from Brawl. I didn't play as Falco much so, there's not much for me to reference off of besides what are his attacks, movement, and other basic stuff.

Anyway found more videos. This one is against Greninja and is from DVDA - I don't know when it was recorded: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8KaIv53IUdA.

Do we have one on Pikachu yet? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DpvQVkC5044. It's Grinch and someone as Pikachu.

Edit: @ Charhazzard Charhazzard already posted the Pikachu fight.

I don't know if you guys do it or not but the reverse up smash is really good, I tend to catch people better with the back part of the hit. When an opponent air dodges it's easier to punish them because the animation takes so long and covers a big arc.

Here's a quick video of me doing it out of a down throw

Fresh gameplay, first round he went Fox, I skipped it.
Falco does land a clutch bair to take the first stock but he was so far behind it didn't really matter.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Efr6zWbKOaw
The player was either really nervous or confused since there were times where he just stood there and took hits. He was barely able to kill with Falco and barely did anything as Fox aside from racking up damage. There were also some openings he missed along with basically running away during the last minutes.

I don't want to sound like I'm ragging on Larry, but is Nairo really well-known? I don't follow competitive stuff much, but if that's what happens when he's up against notorious players, then he needs to learn to just treat matches as matches. The greatest enemy is yourself.

Yeah, Nairo is pretty well known through his Brawl career.
He probably was nervous, I could see he was missing a couple openings too.

MunsterMash has another video up of him vs JJ. I really wished JJ was well-known or something.

Edit: Falco's Reflector can help with his recovery? It's around at 2:00; JJ jumps and uses Reflector.

This is from last night's Smash 4-Ever 9, Keitaro beat out Max Ketchum's Falcon with Falco.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y5ngzprYpws

I'm getting a capture card next week and I'm a Falco main so I'll definitely be getting some videos up.
while its good to see someone professional use the bird (finally some love), I have to wonder why he uses up throw or forward throw at times. I've watched his other videos in that tournament and him using up throw at high percents (but not kill percents), as well as not using d-tilt to kill as a mix up (like in that tazio match). He has way more smash experience than I do, so maybe I shouldn't be the one to talk, but I'm still rather curious.

its finally good to see a competitive falco though!

ill be real honest keitaro is probably the only person ive seen on youtube who understands what falco can do. sure he could do wonky things but its part of his playstyle i guess?
anyways great vids keep it up :D

It doesn't necessarily help with the actual recovery, it just protects against some ledgeguarding options Fox might have utilized. He was basically covering his recovery. I do this against players that chase off the ledge a lot when I'm trying to get back on.

It just might be his playstyle from using other characters. I'm pretty sure he doesn't main Falco in Smash 4 so he probably isn't aware of some of his setups or true combos. He might also be upthrowing to set up aerials or fthrowing to set up some spacing or zoning. I honestly don't remember specific moments and can't watch it at the moment but Keitaro always utilizes good options.

I don't think he did it to help get back to ledge. I think he was anticipating the Fox to shoot some lasers and he threw out the shine because he didn't want the damage, or he could have done that to try and scare off the Fox from trying to stop him from getting back to ledge.

So I was looking through youtube and came across a really entertaining falco fox set. This Falco's commitment to dair is crazy and it works for him a lot in these matches. But he uses it a lot on stage which I'm not so comfortable with in this game lol. The Fox could just not be that good also but I'm not sure. He didn't jab cancel or do his up tilts from what I saw and also kept fire foxing past the ledge into falco. To set up kills with fox I usually with dair drill and chase the tech to an up smash which he never tried but check it out guys the second match is nasty

Looks like he did a couple of those dairs to bait and punish.
I agree with Bltz though, I still feel like on stage dairs are way too unsafe to do often. Maybe once in a while for mix-ups but nothing else.

Yeah, the one with Keitaro was taken down. I think it has to do with the "commentator"... It's like an idiot trying to get his 5 minutes of fame which is a shame since he basically destroys the match by being annoying and distracting.
