Welcome to the Gunvolt support thread.

To keep posted on Gunvolt news, check the following websites:

Gunvolt is the protagonist of Azure Striker Gunvolt 1&2, available in the Nintendo 3DS & Nintendo Switch eShop. As you might have guessed already, Gunvolt has power over electricity. The game was directed by the same man whom directed the Mega Man games. Gunvolt has so far seen good reception, and has made cameo appearances in Blaster Master Zero, Mighty Gunvolt, Mighty Gunvolt Burst, and the indie all-stars game Blade Strangers. Gunvolt has also gotten his own anime, available in the Nintendo 3DS eShop.

The gameplay is very unique, and for an action-platformer, it has a deep and emotive story. Despite its short length, the game has boatloads of replay value. A big gift in a small parcel.

Azure Striker Gunvolt takes place in a futuristic timeline on Earth. The story begins when Gunvolt is sent by an organisation QUILL to assassinate a musical celebrity named Lumen, whose powers over the mind is being used by a villainous group called Sumeragi. But when he finds that Lumen is just a telepathic projection of a young girl named Joule, his conscience gets in the way of his duty, and instead of killing Joule, he betrays QUILL and rescues her. With both QUILL and Sumeragi now at his throat, Gunvolt is left all alone to protect Joule and overthrow Sumeragi.

The reason I want Gunvolt in Smash is that, given his abilities and iconic look, he would be a unique fighter whom would stand out nicely. I also think Azure Striker Gunvolt is the start of a very promising series, and what better way to promote and extend the series by adding Gunvolt in Smash?

To cut right to the chase, here's some footage that shows Gunvolt's uniqueness.

It's not every day you find a game that has a large array of catchy, memorable tunes. I guarantee you at least one of these will stick in your head, or your money back.

♪ Igniter (Lola)
♪ Indigo Destiny (Joule & Lola)

Even though I know Gunvolt probably doesn't have a shot in hell, I still think he would be a very unique character in Smash. Despite his uniqueness, though, sadly he has the extreme disadvantage of recentness and obscurity. And I don't know how Sakurai feels about Indie characters. Corrin is a very recent character, too, but he has the entire Fire Emblem series backing him up. That said, maybe Gunvolt will stand a better chance if his series continues and gets a leg up in the gaming culture.

For what it counts, Inti Creates has made it no secret that they want Gunvolt in Smash.

I'd love it. Love both gunvolt games. And mighty gunvolt... and kind of want to buy blaster master to play as gunvolt.

So what assist trophy would you rather see, Copen or Joule?

I'm surprised anyone even replied.

In response to an above post, I'd rather have Copen as the assist trophy, and Joule part of Gunvolt's moveset.

Anyhow, I recently bought the second game and am thoroughly enjoying it. I waited and waited for the Striker Pack to come out in Europe, but alas, I STILL haven't heard anything--so I went ahead and downloaded it from the eShop.

Prologue aside, so far I've only completed the digital stage on Gunvolt's path--and I dare say, the level design is VERY imaginative, and the conversations were hilarious. The boss was difficult, but in a good way. Can't wait until mine semester is over, so I can play the rest of this game in peace.

I, too, intend to buy Blaster Master Zero for the sole purpose of playing as Gunvolt.

Double-post, I know, but I'm a one-Adept team here, so... [Shrugs].

Anyhow, I just completed both storylines of Azure Striker Gunvolt 2. Having played the hell out of the previous game, most of it was pretty easy for me. Copen takes some getting used to, but once you get over his learning curve, he's pretty dangerous. Overall, Gunvolt 2 was shorter than the first game, but nevertheless well-made.

Avoiding spoilers, I think the ending was well-executed. Both story and gameplay-wise, it allows for something entirely new for the possible sequel. In order for Gunvolt and Copen, adepts and humans, to get along, they NEED a common enemy. That said, I think aliens from outer space would be interesting for Azure Striker Gunvolt 3.

Recently began playing Blaster Master Zero as Gunvolt. I dare say, the game is much better with Gunvolt than with Jason. At least, I think so.

Anyway, here's a new Gunvolt trailer. It seems the Striker Pack is coming to the Nintendo Switch. Even though I have both Gunvolt games for the 3DS, I'm still buying the Switch version--just to play it on the big screen.

I figured there was a thread for this, I support!

I always wanted to try the Azure Striker Gunvolt games out and I finally got them both via eShop during Christmas when they were on sale. And just now, after having more free time, I finally finished the first and second (both stories) games. I really love the presentation of the games - not only is the gameplay/abilities unique, I think the setting, other characters' designs/personalities and the story really build up on that to create an all-around really enjoyable experience. I'm definitely hoping for another entry for the series, I feel like there's still a lot more to tell story-wise even after the latest game.

If not playable status, something like an Assist Trophy (or even a normal trophy) for Gunvolt would be amazing. Not sure where Sakurai stands with indies though. Best situation would be playable of course (Copen could take the AT route).

I support Gunvolt!
I'm a big Inti Creates fan. But I must confess Gunvolt makes the most sense as their figurehead character.

I thought about his moveset for a while, and I imagine it something like this.

------------
Gunvolt would basically be a damage racking specialist. He'd have an easier time KOing on the air or outside the stage rather than on the ground, where his main KOing tool is his smash attacks (mostly Fsmash).

His shooting game is really similar to Megaman's, but the darts deal 1% damage, and won't flinch your opponent.

Also, he can mix up his recovery a lot.
With the pseudo-glide that his Flashfield provides on air, to the double jumps and air dash. As long as he doesn't burn up his Septimal meter. He can only recharge his Septimal power on the ground. So, it'll be a struggle getting back down if you've used it all up on the air.

Moveset time!

A: Shoot dart.
A Tilt: Move while shooting darts.
Utilt: Flash kick (because why not?)
Dtilt: Low kick

B: Flashfield
0 tags = 1% per second if foe is inside field.
1 tag = 2% every second and at a distance.
2 tags = 3% ^^^
3 tags = 4% ^^^

Side+B: Air dash (you can use these as long as you have SP in your meter).

Down+B: Recharge Septimal Power.

Up+B: Double jump (like additional double jumps you can use, as long as you have SP in your meter).

Nair: Shoot darts
Fair: Double lightning kick
Dair: Heel kick (spike)
Bair: Backhand hilt (Sakurai angle)
Uair: Flip kick

Usmash: Crashbolt
Fsmash: Luxcalibur
Dsmash: Astral Sphere

Grab: (standard grab)
Pummel: (hits with knee)
Fthrow: Deals a Dragonsphere blow.
Bthrow: Throws opponent in Ryu fashion.
Dthrow: Cerberus hilt strikes the back of the foe.
Uthrow: Rising knee to the chin

Final Smash: Voltic Chains

Once again, I'm surprised anyone replied. I dare say, I was ready to let this thread die.

I, too, am hoping for a third entry in the series. Quite frankly, the secret ending does leave some loose ends. That said, I might ask Inti Creates if Gunvolt will ever go 3D. The gameplay could stay 2D, but the graphics could receive a 3D upgrade. I could see something like that happening, since the 3DS is slowly starting to fade out.

I haven't made it to the true ending myself yet, so I wouldn't know.
More Gunvolt is always great to have.
I had thought of him in Smash in the past, but it wasn't until this thread when I finally started considering him a cool addition.

I think Inti does incredible spritework. I'd be a bit sad to see it go... But then again, they also make really good cel-shade style 3D with Galgun, so they could nail the style easily.

Know what I would like to see? A 3rd Mighty Gunvolt game. Except that while the first was mostly Gunvolt, and Burst was mostly Mighty#9, I'd love for Inti to make the 3rd one heavily based on Galgun now. :D

And yeah, Gunvolt 3 would be incredible. I wonder if they'd add a 3rd character...?

Honestly, if we do get another playable character, or if Copen returns, I hope their stages don't intertwine with the other playable characters. Mine biggest qualm with Gunvolt 2 is that since the stages and bosses were designed to accommodate the abilities of both Gunvolt and Copen, they weren't as imaginative as they could have been. So in that regard, I kind of like the first game better.

The first game kicked my ass but I still love it. Full support, also if people don't know he is going to appear in a very indie style smash bros called Indie pogo which I helped fund. As well as stated Blade strangers a traditional fighter with smash bros like controls. It's got curly from cavestory.

Glad to see Copen getting his own game. I do think this was a smart choice, both story and gameplay-wise. Mine only major qualm with Gunvolt 2 is that since every stage was shared by Gunvolt and Copen, they weren't as creative as they could have been. That said, I'm glad they're only focusing on one character now.

As for Copen himself, I wonder how he'll develop as a character. Will he ever make peace with himself, or will he be consumed by the darkness?

Best part is at 37:50.

[EDIT] Found a shorter video, which skips through all the idle chatter. Judging by the footage, Gunvolt is clearly a zoning-based character. His melee attacks are for escaping rushdown, not for going aggro. That said, the reason Player 1 keeps losing is because he's not using Gunvolt properly. Instead of charging at the opponent, tag them with the pistol, then electrify them from afar. If you see them coming at you, trap them with Orochi. Lastly, Gunvolt's specials (Luxcalibur and Spark Sphere) seem more suited to trapping the opponent than going at them.

I thought of that same exact move once when writing a Gunvolt moveset, where he backhands the opponent.

Noko looks like a character I'll enjoy. She's fast, and seems to have a defend-and-counter playstyle. Also like Curly's projectile game.

Now that Bomberman has been revealed as an Assist Trophy, I have higher hopes for Gunvolt's inclusion--though not necessarily as a playable character. The Assist Trophies in Smash Ultimate seem to be much smarter than before. That said, I'll settle for Gunvolt and Copen being assist trophies. Gunvolt could tag the enemy with his pistol, then shock them from afar. Copen could Bullit Dash into the enemy and rain gunfire on them. Quite frankly, this would be more than I could ever ask for.

Since they're clearly catering to fan demand in Smash Ultimate, and given the already massive roster, I've pretty much given up hope for Gunvolt's inclusion as a playable character. He's not nearly as popular as Shovel Knight, whom has already been confirmed as an Assist Trophy.

Still, Shovel Knight's reveal at least shows that Sakurai is willing to include Indie characters in a minor form. That said, I now have higher hopes for Gunvolt and Copen being Assist Trophies. I think the Gunvolt Chronicles at least deserves that much exposure.

Glad I managed to get a few people into Gunvolt.

Also, for what it counts, Inti Creates still wants Gunvolt in Smash. Added this Tweet to the OP.

[EDIT] Since its semi-related, due to being made by the same company, just thought I'd share this. I dare say, I'm really looking forward to this game.

[EDIT] Finally, someone whom is good with Gunvolt. This just makes me want to main him more.

Recently got mine hands on a copy of Blade Strangers, and so far I'm enjoying it. Although, I do think it could have had more depth, in terms of gameplay modes. Like Smash, the controls are fairly simplistic, but each character has a different learning curve. Some combos are challenging, but rewarding once mastered. Overall a very beginner-friendly fighting game.

I think Gunvolt and Liongate are mine favourites as of now. Personality-wise, I really like Helen as a character. That said, I hope she gets her own game in the future.

I absolutely love the Gunvolt series. The first two games are amazing. Mighty Gunvolt is a game that Beck from Mighty No. 9 is in that's actually good, which has led me to want to buy Mighty Gunvolt Burst soon. He's one of the guests in Blade Strangers that has me interested in that game. And I am very much looking forward to the upcoming Gunvolt game that stars Copen.

So yeah, consider me a Gunvolt supporter.

Also, found some more Dragon Marked for Death gameplay--this time with no chatter. I dare say, I've been looking forward to this game ever since it was announced. It looks even better than it did when it was first revealed.

If gunvolt gets added I would be very happy. I played the heck out of the demo back in 2017. Also, we need another run-and-gunner. I support!

I've never even thought about this character being in Smash. That'd be kinda neat maybe. They could do something original with the Tagging ability.

Supporting, as long as it means Blaster Master Zero's Jason can get in someday.

Gunvolt being in the main game seems unlikely at this time, but the DLC window opportunity might be possible, since I don't think they'll put him everywhere like Shovel Knight. So far, he's been in his own series, BM Zero, Blade Strangers and Mighty Gunvolt.
