Roster Possibilities and Predictions - Done Using Logic and Examples

Hello there, fellow smashers. I know you've seen it a thousand times already.... who's in, who's out, predictions, possibilities, blah, blah, it goes on and on. However, most of the groups that discuss these things aren't using any logic whatsoever. The only discuss who they want, and often don't talk about who has a logical chance of being in. This is why I created this thread. This thread is to talk about the logical characters for Brawl. Every character here has something backing them up. There are no "OMG MASTER CHIEF 4 BRAWL !!!!111!!!!1!" type of things. All you'll see here is a completely thought out list of possible characters. Some of you will agree, while many of you won't. So, I want all of you to reply with your thoughts and feelings, and your predictions and analysis as well.

My analysis will go franchise by franchise.

*ALSO: It seems that someone has used my pictures I made here for their own group and predictions. If I see you using the pictures I made without making any refernce to the creator aka ME then actionw ill be taken. And I mean action. One man has already done this. If you want to use my pictures, credit me for them.

MARIO FRANCHISE

CONFIRMED:

Mario, Peach, Bowser

MOST LIKELY WILL RETURN:

Luigi

There is really no reason for Luigi to not return to Smash. Many people complain of him being a clone, and maybe that’s true. Sure, he has a lot of moves that are like Mario’s, but here’s the thing. Since then, Mario and Luigi have gained a whole host of new moves that are specific to each character. Mario got his FLUDD, so Luigi could get his Poltergust Vacuum. He could also use moves from the Mario and Luigi series.

Latest Appearances: Super Mario Galaxy, Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games, Super Paper Mario, Mario Party DS

POSSIBLE NEWCOMERS:

Bowser Jr.

With his rising popularity, I don’t see why the little rascal can’t be in. While his appearances have been less than memorable, he is a rising star in the Mario series. His design could be based off of his Sunshine model, maybe using his paintbrush as a weapon. Also, he has a large chance of being in because if Dr. Mario does not come back, and assuming Luigi is in, then the Mario franchise would have fewer representatives than Melee. Odd, don’t you think?

Recent Appearances: Super Mario Sunshine, Mario Hoops 3 vs. 3, New Super Mario Bros, Super Mario Galaxy.

Paper Mario

While many people do not like having more than one of the same character, Paper Mario is vastly different from Mario. Firstly, is his obvious graphical difference from Mario. Second, is his possibility at a different move set. He could use a hammer, pixls from Super Paper Mario, his spin dash attack, fire balls (of course), and jumping ability ( of course). However, is chances are less than any other Mario newcomer due to him being named Mario, and due to his popularity.

Recent Appearances: Super Paper Mario, Paper Mario and the Thousand-Year Door

LEGEND OF ZELDA FRANCHISE:

CONFIRMED:

Link, Zelda

MOST LIKELY WILL RETURN:

Ganondorf

A Nintendo character, as important as Ganondorf, has absolutely no reason to not be a repeat combatant in Smash. Ganondorf has been a staple character in the Zelda series since birth, and is too important to not be put back in. Many people like to complain about his clone move set. Everyone should be upset at Ganondorf’s originality being laid to waste. Ganondorf should have a new control scheme based on his sick-looking sword from Twilight Princess, as well as his dash attack, black magic, summoning skills, and should have a final smash that turns him into the pig beast Ganon.

Recent Appearances: The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess

POSSIBLE NEWCOMERS:

Wind Waker Link (Cel-da Link)

Many people don’t like the idea of having two of the same character. Well, the difference from this Link and Young Link, is well, he and the Link confirmed are different characters. The two Links are different people in different times, just with the same name and same quest. Also is the fact that that this Link is cel-shaded, which could add a cool graphical look to Brawl. His popularity has been rising, and there have been rumors a plenty about his entry. Also, this Link uses a much different move set than the Twilight Princess Link. He could use his hourglass, grappling hook, Skull Hammer, Deku Leaf (up-b of course), and other trademark weapons.

Recent Appearances: The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass, The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker

Midna/Wolf-Link

Another Link? Well, this is different. You see, the star of this two-man tandem is Midna, the short smart-mouthed princess from Twilight Princes. Her magic abilities, coupled with Wolf Link’s biting and swiping capabilities could create a new and interesting character. Also, there is no doubt that Midna is loved by many and incredibly popular. Her role in Twilight Princess was huge, and from that game, her fan base is humongous.

Recent Appearance: The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess

Zant

Admittedly, he has one of the worst chances of all of the heavily speculated characters. There really is no need for another villain in the Zelda world, but his potentiality for an original move set is there. He uses purple energy balls, two swords, magic, and spin and dash attacks. Most people don’t really want him in Brawl, and I really don’t either, but there is still a fraction of people who wouldn’t mind seeing him, like me.

Recent Appearance: The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess

POKEMON FRANCHISE:

CONFIRMED:

Pikachu, Pokemon Trainer (Charizard, Squirtle, Ivysaur)

MOST LIKELY WILL RETURN:

Mewtwo

Mewtwo is as close as you get to a Pokemon villain. He is widely known throughout the Pokemon Universe. In fact, the first movie was about him and his villainous ways. However, many people did not like his low-tierishness. This could be easily changed, to make him stronger, with a very slightly different move set. Also, his originality is high, seeing there is no on else in the game with quite a move set like his.

Recent Appearances: Pokemon Diamond/Pearl, Pokemon FireRed/LeafGreen

Jigglypuff

Again, another case of popularity and originality. With her own set of moves, unique fighting style, and trademark multiple jumps, Jigglypuff remains a very original character. Her popularity is also high. Also, there is no reason to remove a non-clone character. More importantly, is the fact that she was in the last 2 games.

Recent Appearances: Pokemon Diamond/Pearl, Pokemon FireRed/LeafGreen

POSSIBLE NEWCOMERS:

Lucario

People keep saying that the later generations of Pokemon aren’t getting any love, especially when it comes to being represented in Brawl. Well, I think if they have a ton of Pokemon based on the 4th generation coming out of Pokeballs, than why not a character? Lucario is probably the most famous of the new Pokemon due to his new movie, and can have a move set full of claw swiping, energy firing goodness. His popularity is also insanely high.

Recent Appearances: Pokemon Diamond/Pearl

Blaziken

Never heard of him? Well, that’s a possibility. Blaziken is a 3rd generation Pokemon that was on Masahiro Sakurai’s Japanese poll. His want is due to the fact of no 3rd generation representation in Brawl. Also, he is wanted due to the fact that he could have a very original move set, revolving around acrobatic jumps, kicks, and punches, all with a fiery twist (of course, seeing that he is a fire Pokemon).

Recent Appearances: Pokemon Diamond/Pearl, Pokemon Emerald/Ruby/Sapphire

STAR FOX FRANCHISE:

CONFIRMED:

Fox

MOST LIKELY WILL RETURN:

Falco

Falco was easily the most popular newcomer in Melee. His amazing move set shot him to the top-tier, and as well shot him up to the top of the interest of smashers. With such popularity, it would seem incredibly stupid for Sakurai to leave him out. However, what would be smart, and would also aggravate many fans of him, is to change his move set. Sakurai hates clones, so, he could make Falco have a new move set, possibly based off of the numerous weapons and gadgets of Smash. To stray from real world bullets and guns, he could use his homing rocket launcher, hand grenade, plasma gun, and plasma cannon.

Recent Appearances: Star Fox: Command, Star Fox: Assault

POSSIBLE NEWCOMERS:

Krystal

I’ll say it now, and I’ll probably say it again – Smash Bros. Needs more female representation. They could easily start with Krystal. She is gaining in popularity (in more ways than one), and could easily be the first character in the series to utilize a staff as their trademark weapon. There is room for originality for her. Also, on Elysia Glidewell’s home page (I’m not sure I’m spelling that right), Krystal was noted as being played by her in Smash. She also was highly ranked on Sakurai’s poll.

Many people talk about Star Wolf being in the game, but his move set wouldn’t be that much different from Fox’s or Falco’s, so it doesn’t seem likely. We even know that Sakurai does not want clones.

Recent Appearances: Star Fox: Command, Star Fox: Assault

METROID FRANCHISE:

CONFIRMED:

Samus, Zero Suit Samus

POSSIBLE NEWCOMERS:

Ridley

Metroid was born in Japan. With Metroid Prime, an FPS Adventure (which Japan doesn’t really like), the series’ popularity was made large in America. And yet, Ridley is still highly ranked in Sakurai’s poll. It looks like there could be room for this guy. He would fit in Brawl, with a cool move set involving gliding, swiping, and fire-breath. Some say he’s too big. Lies! Bowser is much bigger than he is in Brawl, so they shrunk him down. Pikachu is less than a foot tall, and he’s as big as Mario! C’mon… there is room for this guy.

Recent Appearances: Metroid Prime 3: Corruption, Metroid Prime 2: Echoes, Metroid Prime

KIRBY FRANCHISE:

CONFIRMED:

Kirby, Meta Knight, King Dedede

POSSIBLE NEWCOMERS:

NONE – The Kirby trifecta has been placed in Brawl, and at this point, there really are no other characters in Kirby that would work well as characters.

FIRE EMBLEM FRANCHISE:

CONFIRMED:

Ike

MOST LIKELY WILL RETURN:

Marth

Marth is one of the most popular Fire Emblem characters. His popularity in America reached an insane high with his introduction in Smash. However, there is still a chance that he could be replaced by Sigurd, a character that not only looks like him, but is more recent, more famous, and could easily just be given the same move set. Still, I have hope for him.

Recent Appearances: Fire Emblem DS

POSSIBLE NEWCOMERS:

Micaiah

Once again, I say, Brawl needs more female presentation. Micaiah is the only female lord of notoriety in Fire Emblem, and could easily be used to promote Radiant Dawn, much like Marth and Roy promoted Fire Emblem in the Americas. She would be a user of white magic, something that has been used, mainly not by Zelda, but not fleshed out.

Recent Appearances: Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn

Black Knight

Hell friggin yes! The most badass looking villain of all time would definitely make a good character for Brawl. He would be a slow moving character, with fast action sword movements, tons of invincibility frames, and would be extremely hard to knock out of the ring. He would also use his black magic, for his special moves like teleportation.

Recent Appearances: Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance, Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn

DONKEY KONG FRANCHISE:

CONFIRMED:

Donkey Kong, Diddy Kong

POSSIBLE NEWCOMERS:

King K. Rool

How many famous alligator characters are out there? Well, how many good ones? There really is only one, in King K. Rool. The Donkey Kong franchise has needed more representations since Melee, and Diddy Kong isn’t enough to hold the franchise’s end in Brawl. KKR could use his high jumping ability, dash techniques, throw his crown as a boomerang, fire cannonballs, and hit the ground with great force, a la King Dedede.

Recent Appearances: DK: Jungle Climber, Donkey Kong: Barrel Blast

RETRO CHARACTERS:

CONFIRMED:

Pit, Ice Climbers

MOST LIKELY WILL RETURN:

Mr. Game and Watch

You either hate him, or you love him. And I bet you’re guessing that I love him. First off, why would Sakurai remove the single most original character in Smash, that honors the success of Nintendo’s Game and Watch system, all while bringing great feelings of nostalgia? He should definitely come back. There is no one else like him, and there will never be a character ever that will be like him. Also, some of you guys might not like this, but the icon Theory is missing a little spot at 13, between Fire Emblem, and Ice Climbers. Hmm…. What goes there?

Recent Appearances: Super Smash Bros. Melee

POSSIBLE NEWCOMERS:

Takamaru

A character must be really special to be placed on Sakurai’s poll, after only appearing on one Japan-only game over 20 years ago. Takamaru appeared in Nazo no Murasame-jō, and it was his only appearance. He also has been very requested on the Japanese poll. And, maybe its coincidence, but why would 2 ninja characters, both heavily speculated to be playable, be assist trophies? Hmm… maybe there is already a playable ninja…..

Sukapon

Yep, another Japan-only character from one old game. Amazing how they can still live on…. Sukapon was a fighter in the game Joy Mech Fight, in which he fought other robots. His move set looked a lot like dancing and slapping, but hey, anything goes in Brawl. Plus, who wouldn’t want to play as masses of Pink floating balls?

Recent Appearances: Joy Mech Fight (in the 90’s)

EARTHBOUND/MOTHER FRANCHISE:

CONFIRMED:

Lucas

MOST LIKELY WILL RETURN:

None – It’s sad to say, but it doesn’t look like Ness is coming back. Remember, “Until now”…. Yeah.

POSSIBLE NEWCOMERS:

Claus

Avoid this if you don’t want to read spoilers. Claus is the corrupt twin brother of Lucas, who was transformed into a robot of death. In my opinion, he should represent, not only due to his originality, but, I believe that every franchise needs one villain representing one way or another. He would utilize his bombs and energy sword, as well as his lightning strike and energy beams, and could peak interest for Mother (like THAT will come to America). However, he is one of the least likely choices of mine, and will probably not make it in.

Recent Appearances: Mother 3

WARIO FRANCHISE:

CONFIRMED:

Wario

POSSIBLE NEWCOMERS:

NONE – Waluigi would seem like an Assist trophy due to his lack of importance in the series, only appearing in spinoffs. Ashley, while being female, doesn’t have that many moves to herself. One is enough for the Wario series.

YOSHI FRANCHISE:

CONFIRMED:

Yoshi

POSSIBLE NEWCOMERS:

NONE – outside of Yoshi, the only characters that can even be considered are Birdo and Kamek. Birdo is an exact clone of Yoshi that spits eggs. She’s out. Kamek, however, seems mores suited for a boss fight. So I say no to him.

F-ZERO FRANCHISE:

MOST LIKELY WILL RETURN:

Captain Falcon

Of all of the characters in the game who have not returned yet, Falcon has the biggest chance of all of them to return. There is literally absolutely no reason to not put him in Brawl.

Recent Appearances: F-Zero GX, F-Zero AX

POSSIBLE NEWCOMERS:

NONE – After Samurai Goro’s confirmation of being an Assist trophy, it seems that there will be no other characters from F-Zero. Black Shadow is brought up many times, but he would basically be a clone of Falcon, aka GANONDORF.

NEW FRANCHISES:

POSSIBLE NEWCOMERS:

Captain Olimar (Pikmin)

Have you seen the Olimar for Brawl thread? There is no doubt that people want him in. In fact, he is to me at least considered the most wanted first party character in Brawl. His popularity is undoubtedly high. It is also rumored that Pikmin 3 is in development for the Wii. His move set could be based around his slapping technique, his ship, and of course, Pikmin. I however, don’t want to see a Pokemon Trainer type of thing. Captain Olimar should be in the action, throwing Pikmin and other stuff.

Recent Appearances: Pikmin 2

Isaac (Golden Sun)

I have not heard too much about him, but he definitely sounds great as a fighter, and people definitely want him. He would use a sword but his main focus would be psynergy, the use of elemental spirits that control the ground, lightning, ice, and other forces. That sounds interesting enough for me!

Ray (Custom Robo)

In Japan, the Robo series of games has fared much better than it has in the Americas. Yet, this series has been slowly gaining ground in America, and with a released of a Custom Robo game on the DS that was successful, the series has started to be taken notice. Ray, the game’s protagonist, is a large mech, who fights with melee combat and various projectiles. After all, he is a mech.

Recent Appearances: Custom Robo DS

THIRD PARTY CHARACTERS:

CONFIRMED:

Sonic, Snake

POSSIBLE NEWCOMERS:

Simon Belmont

My most wanted third party character, based off of a franchise that has lived and thrived on Nintendo consoles throughout its entire history. It is easy to think of how Simon could work, using his whip for smashes, and throwing his knife, crosses, holy water and axes for specials. Simon is also one of Nintendo’s oldest characters; helping to sell NES’ with his 3 games on that platform, and then another one which he appeared in for the Super Nintendo

Recent Appearances: Castlevania: Chronicles, Castlevania: Harmony of Dissonance, DreamMix TV Fighters

Megaman

Of all of the third party hopefuls left, Megaman has the biggest shot. He has been in more games on Nintendo consoles than we can count, including 6 alone on the NES. Some say he’d be a clone of Samus. I say, he won’t. Sure, give him a charge shot, but throw in his other moves like his buzz saw thrower, and all of his other moves, and he could be original.

Recent Appearances: Mega Man Star Force, Mega Man ZX Advent

Leon S. Kennedy

In having the greatest Gamecube game, a scary as hell N64 game, and a great remake on the Wii, there is no denying Resident Evil’s presence. Leon should get a spot, being a Snake-ish character, using some explosives, but having the martial arts skill that he has, which sort of looks like Falco’s move set. He also has been heavily requested by fans, and did appear on Sakurai’s list of possible characters.

Recent Appearances: Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition

Rayman

GAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH! The scream of the rabbids is heard on this selection. Rayman could be absolutely perfect, utilizing his trademark flexibility, and his moves from Rayman 2 – The Great Escape, and Rayman Raving rabbids. Lum tossing, plunger shooting, helicopter ears, fast punching, there is no denying that Rayman could be great for Brawl. He also has had a recently huge appearance (at least his name) on the Wii.

Recent Appearances: Rayman Raving Rabbids 2 (Wii and DS), Rayman Raving Rabbids (Wii and DS)

Geno

Even though only appearing heavily in one game, Geno is one of the most famous characters to be wanted in Brawl, but no be in Brawl. He was on Sakurai’s poll, and somehow, through only Super Mario RPG, he has managed to survive. He would utilize a heavy projectile game, using all of his old moves.

Recent Appearances: Mario and Luigi: Superstar Saga (Cameo)

That’s about it folks. I’ll be updating as I go, hopefully bidaily at the least. With my predictions, if everyone made it in, there would be 54 characters. A little excessive maybe, but nonetheless, every character on this list has a huge chance at being In Brawl (I’m talkin’ about the unconfirmed ones people…) Post your thoughts and comments, tell me what you think guys.

Geno appeared in 2003 in Mario & Luigi Superstar...You included other games that came out that year as "recent" so Geno should be too

It was a unnamed cameo. :O

Anyways, why does nobody ever even consider Darkrai? He's more qualified than either Lucario or Blaziken. (Wow, havn't heard anyone even mention Blaziken in forever)

EDIT: I'm not even going to go into how dumb K. Rool is, but really, the Black Knight? Really man, he's not getting in. Ike's the slow character with fast sword movements and loads of invincibility fraims. Giving him a teleport doesn't change it enough.

This is actually a pretty good list if you ask me, though I don't like your 3rd party choices(excluding Megaman).

unnamed? He has his name written in the credits pretty big...

He was in the game, therefore it was an appearance.

Remember readers, this page is about logical choices who actually have a more than decent chance. Some characters I have heard have been downright ridiculous. I just took the ones that made the most sense and did this.

Pretty big? It was normal text. And in the context of the game it was a unnamed cameo, only to be mentioned by his legal information. =/

EDIT: Oh and TC, if it's logic, why didn't you use that with BK. It was basiically just because you think he looks cool.
