Atm my shen page is:
HP quints (early ki strikes)
Magic pen reds
Flat armour yellows
Mr/lvl blues

I have decided that I could get better reds; any ideas? I also am thinking about swapping my quints for MS.

I've decided that Lux is my favorite character in the game right now :D And her Sorceress Lux skin is just so delightful - ZOMG POINTY BLUE HAT <3

I mean seriously, she's fun as hell to play and she hurts like hell if she gets even a couple kills early/mid game. Maybe Kass and Aniv are the "top tier ap carries" right now, but Lux beats them both when it comes to sheer style.

kind of silly how NESL made their own seeding for the scrim night opposed to making it random :\

Almost at 1600! Woooo.

Also Mogwai: I started going back to Glacial Shroud and... both builds **** honestly, but shroud is faster which is pretty important for Urgot. I'm gonna mix it up depending on how many kills I get early, but thanks for reminding me to re-explore that territory :D

Lol, I got a 1540 on the SAT (back when it was out of 1600) along with an 800 on the writing SAT II (so that would give me a 2340/2400 on the current one), I had something like a 3.8 GPA, was in a bunch of clubs, got a national merit scholarship, won some random awards from my high-school and I was still wait-listed for the college of my choice. It wasn't Ivy League or anything either.

Hell my mom was so pissed she called the admission's office and demanded to know why I wasn't accepted. Their response: lol we dunno.

All for the best, I went to ASU instead and if I hadn't I wouldn't be the man you read before you.

But yeah, Urgot. So good. Goddamn.

I tried to confirm our spot in the scrim tonight and it didn't work. It just told me to sign up again over and over so I gave up. We'll have to suffer with a low seed in the tournament I guess, but we'll have fun regardless.

Are you guys in it? Didn't see SWF in the bracket, tell me if you guys need help with team comps/counters or anything like that
Yup. :o

And some team comp help would be awesome. We should try to analyze what sort of comps would work best with the champs we play.

Sorry I couldn't make it. :/

finally broke 1500!

the game I did it in I got carried so hard though.
It was pretty much 4v5 the entire game...
we won the last fight because the enemy used 3 ults on me (I was like 100 cs at the 40 minute mark as ezreal with sheen/bf sword and only 15 compared to 18) and then they got aced.

Also, what graphics settings do most people play on? I just updated my video drivers for the first time in like 5 years, so I was able to switch from "very low" to "high".
HOLY **** THERE IS SO MUCH GOING ON
It seems hard to tell what's going on in a fight with all the effects, but maybe i would get used to it. Is it ok to play on the higher settings or should I go back to low?

I play with low settings except for spell detail. Anything less than 50-60 FPS feels laggy to me. Also, higher model detail looks ugly, they're outlined in thick black lines.

No, Guise is not better than Void Staff. Flat penetration is better numerically against enemies that will not have a lot of mitigation. When people start building FoN's and Veil's, Staff is the obvious choice.

This is really quite simple and fairly well documented. There are a lot of "magic numbers" that have been explained fairly well, you just need to look. The old TL thread had some good links, I didn't save any of them.

mogwai just built bloodrazor and deathcap on roku's stream lol
man, our bot lane was so bad that game. would've been an easy win if they knew what they were doing.

I've been saying this forever but:
flat pen is for low resistance targets
% pen is for high resistance targets

so haunting guise > void staff?
depends what you're doing and what your opponents are building, again... if you're trying to kill low MRes targets, Haunting Guise is ideal and if you're trying to kill high MRes targets, Void Staff is ideal. It varies from game to game, but on someone like Annie (high burst, low sustained), I tend to favor flat pen to insta-gib carries and on someone like Kass (high sustained, high survivabiliy), I tend to favor void staff for late game and making sure we can take down tanks.

I feel this needs some more thinking into. This pretty neat info (especially the CDR vs AP graph at the end) has varied impacts on different types of casters against different types of teams. Its far more complicated then it looks on the outside. Like, for example, why buy sorcs and guise when you can rush void instead? I've seen quite a few good players get void as one of their first major items. Plus with the ability to hit max CDR faster now with the boots, I think that mathematically optimizing damage output for casters could take a bit more involvement than one may think on the outside.

because if your target is that trist with 50 mres, you'll penetrate 49 with sorcs + HG + runes, whereas you'd only penetrate 25 with void + runes. it's dependent, though I tend to play towards void staff because I prefer late game casters =3.

I'm leaning towards Panda's opinion. I think there are more variables than people are given credit to. For instance, a flat %item has scalability as long as one's opponents will increase their MR. As MR ++ so does the value of the %MP.

That's one variable that I can think of off the top of my head where it is much more difficult to just throw out Flat MP > %MP. You really have to gauge your opponents and a skilled player will take into account the enemy team comp vs his/her present team comp and try to project the amount/type of MP necessary to deal effective damage.

At least that's what a skilled player told me once.

Then he unfriended me for feeding. :c

Ah, but you forget that you also have the AP from Void staff to work into the calculating.

Like I said, I think that truly optimizing caster damage output would be very different depending on the caster and the team they're fighting against. For example, if I fought against a team of tanky champs or if my team was heavy on magic damage, I'd just go straight to void staff without even thinking twice. But of course you can get more subtle even, changing builds depending on the role you're filling in the team.

Just wish there was more diversity among AP items (something devs have talked about and agreed on... half a year or more ago).

right, and then they made deathcap and hourglass, further homogenizing AP builds into rushing for Deathcap.

I just gotta say how much I love CDR boots. With runes, masteries, those boots, and a blue elixir I hit 38.53% cd reduction. That aint 40, but for using only one slot dedicated to cd that's good enough for me :chuckle:

jpak, hit me up in game and let's chat a bit about team comps in competitive 5s. I need to organize this here group of feeders into something that can survive the first round of the NESL tourney.

Kleeck, never hit me up in game again.
