used to play it back when I was like 12. it's a reasonably fun game but I prefer other "classic" board games

Ha, I suppose I understand that. However, other "classic" games like Chess have started to bore me; play chess enough and you'll eventually play very similar games, especially within a small playgroup.

To me, Go is like a breath of fresh air. It's fun, unique, and is totally unlike anything else that I've played. Every game is an onrush of new experiences.

I don't mean chess/checkers etc., just abstract strategy games in general (guess I should have worded that better). I love Zértz but nobody I know plays it, or even knows about it really.

And I'm trying to find a good online server too! There just aren't too many for beginners. :(
Try pandanet. They have a huge community, and also for iPod. Tetsuki I beleive, pandanet tetsuki(iPod users) the game is my favorite. More fun than skyrim.;)
P.s. You can play me, in beginner as well:)

I've always been curious about Go

only exposure i've had to it is reading Hikaru no Go
We gotta teach you then! And btw, nearly every go player has heard or watched(read) hikaru no go, after being a avid player I watched it..AND WOW. lol I plan on being a Dan soon!:) that's my goal. There is a server called pandanet, or pandanet tetsuki for iPod users. And u just download it for free. Except u gotta sign up at pandanet first for a account. Tht is free too.

Shadow, Go is a great game, and I'm glad to see your interest in it.

Gao, I found out that the Bamboo board is too big for my stones! :( Do you know of any boards that are decent and around 30 bucks?

I'm currently a 3d on KGS, 4d AGA.

I recommend KGS, they have a good Beginner's Room and the KGS Teaching Ladder room is generally helpful as well.

If you guys have any questions, I think I can help you answer em.

3 Dan? Wow that's very cool! I'm learning Japanese and Chinese opening ad well as joseki, simple though. I can beat a 9kyu robot, but it's difficult. Kgs easy to download? I really need lessons, only go so far with just YouTube lectures. Maybe we can play on kgs, a teaching game?

Nope! It's on my laptop, same as KGS. And cool! Mine's pretty great.

@Violence: Awesome. I'm around a 16-18 kyu, so I have a ton of work ahead of me.

I've only played a few matches, but I can tell it's a game I can easily get sucked into. As someone who mainly plays chess, GO is a nice change of pace. More reliance on intuition instead of purely analytical processes. It also feels much deeper.

Here's something interesting:

I see that all these posts are from two years ago, but does anyone else still play? If so, my OGS account is Niizuma_Eiji, and I'm on KGS as well. I would love to play you!

I was playing on a fairly regular basis a few years ago, but it was hard to learn since it was just me and a friend over and over. If there was a community to discuss it with I might have gotten more into it. Never really thought of playing online though.
