Ugh. A James vs Dabuz rematch would have been preferable, imo. But James and Nairo bring some fast paced matches. Oh well.

I don't think it's that much of stretch for the Belmonts to take a match of Marcina since at their core, both characters want control the stage with their range and Lucina doesn't have the rushdown specs to abuse Ritcher's blindspots like Chrom/Roy. It's the same reason Richter manged to do as well as he did against Olimar back at Frostbite. Sure the Belmonts get brutally edge-guarded, but in return they can ledge-trap Lucina with equal prejudice.
Shame Riddles has to play against ESAM tho.

Tweek will be fighting Marss in Winners Finals after a 3-0 victory over Samsora. Ironically, he was talking about how Peach is a difficult matchup for Wario, yet he still won each match handily even if they were close. Offstage Waft also seems to be a really good and underutilized way to stuff out recoveries as seen multiple times in that set. Can’t wait to see how the rest of the tourney pans out!

Going to have to call this top 8 Fire emblem awakening everyone's pulling out their pocket swordsmen and it's pretty good to see. This meta is definitely lacking swordsmen and good to see such high level gameplay.

Tweek, after a streak of placing unusually low at top events, finally wins another event. His Roy really came in clutch when he was fighting against Marss, defeating him in winner's and grand finals with Roy.

Not entirely sure if Marss had much matchup experience.

Edit: I checked the NE Power Rankings, and the closest thing he appears to have in terms of Roy matchup experience is Kuma, who has taken a set off of Marss before, but appears to be not the most active player.

Those are some pretty cool results. All of the relevant sword characters showed up in top 8 as at least a pocket, Snake and Olimar technically slightly underperformed but just barely. Pikachu/Pika had a heavy showing, surprise solo Belmont and Meta Knight, along with Rosalina and Ganondorf popping up.

Wolf is the largest surprise: just a single showing in that grouping. Even more surprising: not a single Fox.

Also, Tweek is a monster.

Tweek won 3-2 against Marss, with a little help from the pocket Roy. Tweek is now in grand finals.

But still good stuff from Tweek.

Don't read too much into top 8 lacking Snake, pichu and Olimar; they're hiding right around the corner at 9th.
